i have a 2 way alarm and an immobiliser i dont lock the doors as the car is parked outside my bedroom and i have a bat next to my bed, i would prefer the thief to try the door handle first and be supprised when it sets the alarm off instead of smashing a window

The truth is if you give theives the time+means to do it, then nothing will stop them from atleast damaging your property.

The best you can do is leave the car out of sight for the least amount of time as possible and park it somewhere thats harder for them to break into it.

-Also, for those with one, remove the ignitor from the coil packs :D

So now I have a Jaycar Screecher installed INSIDE the car - 110dB @ 2kHz should be enough to remind them that they are not welcome.QUOTE]

That's a really good idea. I wonder if you can get one of those in car alarms which are loud enough to give a thief temporary brain damage or burst eardrums?

when you club lock your steering wheels, dont set it horizontally...........

friends cars club lock was jacked off. anyways i dont know wtf they were doing stripping a 1985 corona beater ? those people at the flats near warwick farm have nothing better to do.

That's a really good idea.  I wonder if you can get one of those in car alarms which are loud enough to give a thief temporary brain damage or burst eardrums?

you COULD do that, but have you ever accidentally set your alarm off? i know i have. and what if if a family member set it off by accident!

i think unbearably loud is better than having something that could pop your eardrum if you set it off by accident.

Same as using a high voltage electric current, not user friendly. Maybe train up a trunk monkey :Dhttp://www.trunkmonkey.com/

I hear up in karatha as Yorik said, you have to leave ure fuelcap open so it doesnt get jimmied open and put a rag in so they can tell you have filled it with avgas.

Then again i wouldnt be drving a rhine up there as it doesnt really ahve a big enough fuel tank and of course the avgas thing.

In regards to removing the ECU, Does having a Power fc make any differance?

Will it lose its tune after time?

A keypad immobiliser can be handy, just read why in current Auto Salon mag about car jacking, scary stuff.

an easy one for the power fc is. if you dont use the pfc boost unit switch it to on when you leave and take your hand controler with you. that will stop them. untill a tow truck arrives of if they have a hand controler and a bit of know how.

I have been trying to do some research on this topic, by asking people who have had their cars stolen about the types of security devices which were in place at the time.

I've been asking this in every "stolen" thread i've been able to find over the last 6 months or so, and guess what?

Not once have I had a response.

This leads me to believe that when peoples cars are stolen, they are left with the doors open, and keys in the ignition.

Doesn't it make sense that if your car was stolen, you'd want to try and stop the same thing happening to other people?

Wouldn't it be logical to use what you have learned to help other people organise the best possible protection for their cars?

Or does having your car stolen leave you so bitter and resentful that you actually WANT other people to have their cars stolen?

If anyone who has had their car stolen can respond to this, i'd like to know the following:

Which security systems were in place at the time of theft?

Were the windows closed?

Were the doors locked?

Was the steering wheel locked?

Was a club lock/pedal lock/shifter lock in place?

Was an alarm in use?

Was an immobiliser in use?

GPS tracking?

BFD?

I'm also very interested in the point of entry, and method of entry.

eg: smashed rear 1/4 window, smashed drivers window, forced door lock, entry via boot etc.

I have always felt that alarms don't do anything apart from make noise, and i'm extremely interested in hearing from anyone who thinks that an alarm has saved their car from being stolen.

Hi.

Maybe, just maybe, they thought you were doing research of a different kind? Like for tips...

Just a thought.

Hey guys....

I work at a respectable car audio shop in Auckland. Along with audio, we install alarms aswell however I install audio. We do alot of insurance work, mostly stolen and recovered so I get to see how theives break in and what they take (you would be very surprised at what they take sometimes). The main 2 ways they enter are

-Smashing a window

-Destroying drivers or passenger lock

(Dont see a thief stealing keys but it does happen)

-What they take - Anything, literally. (We dont just replace stolen stereos, if it isnt panel or mechanical we can replace it, dash, airbags, door handles/locks, sunroof, any interior parts!) Thieves will take anything, factory stereos, pod, interior lights, you name it. Depends if it was stolen for specific parts or just audio/after market parts

Also the damage they do while inside the car can be devistating. A new dash is common, new stereo facia, auto shifters.

We has a new Skoda in that had $23000 worth of damage, they slashed most interior parts :D

NOTHING IS SAFE, ANYWHERE. Trust me, I see the aftermath daily at work.

You would be amazed how many insurace customers tell me 'Its the first time I left the face on the stereo and it was left alone for 5 mins'

ALWAYS remove your stereo faceplate and never leave it anywhere in the car.

Steering locks are a waste of time. I could bypass one in seconds.

Alarm wise, im not too sure what brands Aussie has but try hunt one that is Thatcham Catagory 1. That means its passed strict testingin Europe and is pretty much the best

One such alarm is Selca. Its quality is above and beyond any other alarm in NZ. And you pay very well for it.

Get lock nuts for your wheels, factory or not. Dont bother with 6x9s as they are highly visable. Again, always remove your stereo faceplate from the car!! If doing an amp install, use different types of screws. Multiple sirens on the alarm. Sirens must be battery backup.

Dont leave your keys lying around the house at night, take them into your bedroom. My mate was burgled (while the family was asleep in the house) and just keys an wallets were taken. They left the mint Mustang in the garage alone. His skyline was parked on the road (very quiet street) and they tampered with it the night before setting off his alarm. They didnt find his keys luckily.

Hell, I could rant on but I wont.

If ya need to know anything specific feel free to pm me. Im not gonna get into how to break into certain cars without smahing a window, or how to start a car without a key.... but its very easy.

I have said all this cos as I said, see it daily at work and im sick and tired of these f*ckwits stealing other peoples hard earned stuff. GRRR So im hoping you all can learn something, or become more aware and will now take action to stop these f*ckers

Ok, thats my 57c worth, sorry I got a little greedy compared to the usual 2c

i'm not sure if putting  in an alarm designed to cause physical damage is legal.........that's classed as setting a trap for someone doing a B&E.  if you do that in the home it's illegal.

That's alright, any damage caused to the f*cker trying to steal my car is worth it.

the law's by the looks of things.............the side we should all be on.

hell, why not put a contact mine under the drivers seat.

what about the illusion of physical harm.......................like a sticker on the back that says "Member of Team Black & Decker Vigiallante Car Protection Squad"

    • (it is a brand new ported mellings pump) I suspect the lack of pressure is due to the leak. It was *not* that low in other logs of oil pressure in the past. It wasn't that hot either, but not far off.
    • Would a Mellings oil pump be a viable option  From my time with a LS, and talking to tuners and LS specialists, the "weak" OEM oil pump is one of the first things they recommend to swap out if I was going to give the engine any high RPM I opted for a Mellings high volume, with the high pressure springs and I never had a issue with it Cost wise they are not expensive in the scheme of things
    • Just bought a 2002 Stagea 250tRS VR-X Four AERO VQ25DET and spent the last two weekends cleaning and detailing it.. still have to do the wheels and the engine bay but the rest of it came up nice. Imported 2011 to S.A. and I'm the third owner since it was imported. I met the guy who brought it over, he went to Japan and picked out the car, bought it and ordered the wheels. He also gave me a list of stuff he did to the car with receipts. Coil overs (I have the original springs), 3" exhaust from the dump pipe back no cat, Custom dump pipe,(I have the original exhaust), Plenum spacer, 18" custom Work XSA wheels (need restoring, I've made a start..), Shift kit put through the 5 speed tiptronic auto, TV and menus/screens changed to english, Australian DTV tuner installed in rear. I've just had four new discs and new pads as well as all the fluids including the brake fluid replaced. I have all the receipts for the last 15 years and the import papers in a nice folder. Car looks great, goes like hell but fuel economy is not a thing lol.. pics next..
    • I ended up in this rut again lol, and used a shit ton of filler. One thing I can't understand is, even after using a big long block and going in long X pattern strokes, I always end up at bare metal again with no filler, and my repair started at one end of the door and now I've chased my tail to almost the other end of the door. I was thinking of hitting the panel with a hammer where it might be a high spot and making everything low then filling it, I did this on a small section on my other door by mistake and I think I fixed it lol. Is this a bad idea? The other thing is with guidecoat, whether it's the powder or spray, after I sand all the guide coat off, it doesn't reveal anything for me in terms of high spots and low spots and makes it especially hard when it's bare metal (at least in powdered form), am I doing something wrong here, or likely a high spot I keep going over and creating valleys? Lastly, stupid question but, is it possible that after sanding if I only sand over the filler area where I know to be a dent that it's impossible for me to dig into that dent? Unless there are other problems which I missed.
