hi, thanks to the guys that organised the day, was a great day!

had alot of fun, didn't break anything, brakes lasted well, tyres weren't as great as I hoped. The left hand front tyre took a hammering - might need to consider a shock upgrade/driver upgrade.

I would not recommend the Goodyear GSD3-F1s for a track tyre, great in the wet on the road but a bit too much give when cornering at high speed on the track.

If you havent been to a track day make sure you get out there and give it a go!

Hey, just wondering what gears the other Skyline drivers were using.

Myself: Clubman track

5th at the end of the front straight (~170km/h at the end)

4th through the first long right hander (110km/h)

4th on the short straight (up to 130km/h)

3-4th through second long right hander (100km/h)

4th next straight (up to 140km/h)

3rd in sharp right 180 deg (down to 60km/h)

3rd right round the lefts then 4th into the second main straight.

4th end of secont main straight (150km/h)

3rd at the final right hand 180 deg onto the main (front) straight.

I think I was prolly using too high a gears, But I was trying not to hammer the car. I was also changing at around 5500 RPM.

What about everyone else?

Clubman circuit diagram attached.

R32 GTS4 - 5spd manual: Clubman track

4th at the end of the front straight (~160km/h at the end)- braking at end of concrete curbing on pit exit.

3rd through the first long right hander (130-140km/h)

3rd on the short straight (up to 140km/h)

3rd through second long right hander (130km/h)

3rd next straight (up to 140km/h)

2nd in sharp right 180 deg (down to 60km/h)

2nd into 1st left and 3rd just before the 2nd left then

4th 3/4 way down the second main straight (150km/h-160km/hr)

3rd just before final righthand ,

down to 2nd at the final right hand 180 deg onto the main (front) straight.

could have went faster thru 1st and 2nd long right hand corners with my old falkens but my new goodyear gsd3-f1s tyres were squirming their way out to the outer ripple strip. Tip - dont use these tyres on the track, too many exposed edges and flex in the tread, great on normal roads in the wet tho!,

I wasnt going to hammer the car, but once you get going and hear that awsome RB engine note at full song its hard not to hang onto those gears!.

Changing at about 6500-7000 rpm, way below the readline!...lol

What is the redline on the R32 GTS4? It is 7000 rpm on the R33 GTST.

4th 3/4 way down the second main straight (150km/h-160km/hr)

Supprised you were getting up to 160 km/h down the back straight, I was only tipping 150km/h, I was using higher gears though.

3rd through the first long right hander (130-140km/h)

I thought I was going a bit slow through this corner but don't think I would have held 140km/h.

I am sure you are way past the peak of the torque curve at 7500 - 8000 rpm for a Stock RB25DET, the only thing your doing around that rpm is killing the engine.

I think you may have me mixed-up with another car, mine has a built RB26 engine with 2530s, HKS Step 2 cams etc, peak power is a bit under 8000 in mine.

should have used 'rev limiter' instead of redline but car will hit 8k without a prob.

I was coming out of left hander before this straight as hard as I could in 3rd gear. Keeping those corner speeds up helps alot of course when you hit the straights.

car has rb20 det and 4wd which helps a bit plus is a bit lighter than a r33.

Yeah that explains a few things, I assumed you were talking about a RB25DET.

    • Have a vb in honour of the car comming back
    • It was a great, but typical track day, and some VB was ingested at the night time debrief 🤪
    • And so, to round this out, I couldn't be happier to confirm @MBS206 has decided to buy the car. He drove down from sunny QLD with a trailer last week and it is off to its new home today. I'll let Matt confirm on next steps but I understand broadly that the plan is to leave it pretty much as is, and just get some quality wheel time with a nicely balanced car that is pretty much track ready. There are a few a jobs still to be done first but nothing too major and I think its a very smart buy Dinner last night at the Paragon with a round of VBs (mostly) for Neil
    • Well, 50 pages and the end of a chapter for this car. We took it out for a shakedown at Wakie yesterday, and everything went well. There were a couple of niggles: - Oil cooler fitting leak - tightened, cleaned, stopped leaking - Radiator cap overflow fitting was leaking....Mark called it, the overflow fitting was threaded in and not tight....tightened, tested and held pressure - Small oil leak at the rear of the block, probably the turbo oil feed - too hot to get at it comfortably but probably just needs to be nipped up - leak at the driver's side rear brake line where it meets the hardline. Fitting wasn't loose, so Matt backed it off and back on, no further leaks - there's also a leak somewhere on the top of the fuel tank, maybe that cross over fuel line - that was has been left to fix when its on a hoist Otherwise than those niggles the car went great, turned great and stopped great so it was a very successful day out. I'm always really nervous when a car first hits the track after a long break, especially with a brand new engine as well but it was great. VID-20251011-WA0007.mp4  Big thanks to @The Bogan who dropped by and helped out, @MBS206 and my nephew Lachlan the apprentice.  Neil's wife Mel also surprised the hell out of all of us by dropping by; she's up in Tamworth these days but was travelling to Melbourne so had plausible deniability for turning up at the garage, it was great to see her but also obviously a bit sad all round.
