I beleive we should at least have a crack at stopping the changes, most of us here prob got our car through the same system. Some people are saying that the price of your cefiro will go up, in the main scheme of things it will be a first and last time this occurs, if you plan on staying true to the imports then really you are loosing. Cefiros will go up, so will everything else thats able to be bought in as the sevs goes and raws comes.

I dont care about the the importers who will loose out, in the end but it will be you and I who are screwed over.

I really is a load of Sheet what they are trying to push to us.

I will always own an import, but I refuse to be dictated to as to what cars I can own and buy. If Nissan, toyota and mitsubishi Australia want to bring in basically crap hi production, low cost cars then so be it dont pull me down. I like to have the ability to bring something in thats left feild, rather than own a commodore, cammry, magna.

Seriously dont let it fall otherwise its gone for good, you write off your cefiro, god forbid, go buy a commodore, cause you aint going to be able to get another one in via the same method.

In the main scheme of things I will never go and buy a new car fom a dealer thats a fact jack. So dont stop me from driving and owning something I want to bring in myself.

Get behind this guys cause I dont want to ***** whipped by the government.

i don't understand why these changes have been made, importing cars doesn't harm our local industry at all, the people who are going to buy a new commodore aren't going to go hunting around for a 15 years old GT-R

same deal as the people who want ceffy's or gtrs or silvias or whatever aren't going to even consider buying a new commodore or falcon,

the entire purpose of the 15 year rule was put in place initially because older australian cars were run down to the bone, (look at the VL commodores) it was there so that younger drivers could get a decent car for decent money while they sorted their lives out,

and in that sense it was good, i'm 19 work at coles part time and yet i managed to buy myself a cefiro with 45000 kms for $6500, think about it, in this country what's $6500 going to buy you? a dodgy example of VK / EA (the worst) commodores and falcons, or a dodgy 80's magna with ridiculously high k's

oh that's another thing, i bought the car when i was 18, no finance, no help from parents, older brother assisted me with knowledge of how to privately import but other than that i got a brand new car for $6500,

the dent that the 15 year rule would have made in the local car industry would be less than miniscule, i truly cannot comprehend why they would have stopped this,

now it means that P-Plate drivers will have to downgrade to VL commodores, which despite being ugly dogs of cars, but they are prone to breaking down and exploding spontaneously, not to mention the dodgy suspension they have which attracts defect notices and when you get a defect on an old commodore you're pretty much f**ked,

friend of mine paid $5500 for a VK commodore with a group A bodykit, so many kms on it, headlight blew, got a defect notice for it, took to the pits, they found hundreds of things wrong with it so he tried to sell it because it would have cost about 5K to fix, nobody bought it so he had it crushed....

that's a waste of money,

where was i going with that story, oh yeah, buying a second hand commodore isn't helping local insdutry at all it's a seperate market,

i just can't see why it was stopped personally, the way i see it is importers will piss and moan enough until the gov't changes the rules yet again

I agree!! I hope you guys made yourself heard!!

The main reason i think the're scared is not the dent on the local market now but when the 80 series cruiser comes out car yards will begin to stock up however thats no reason to scrap the law. Perhaps change it in a way that limits the number of cars a sales yard and individual can import somthing a little less harsh.

Alot of people seem to be saying "ohh it doesnt matter anymore cos i just got my car woot!", but is that the only import there planning on getting for the rest of there lives? Its only going to get harder to import from here on in.

mmmm maybe Im just pissed cos i wanted a cefiro or 4dr skyline even before they were cool and still havent got one  now im goin to end up gettin a old faded 88 but probly just have to put up with a local car on the cheapo, guess that will help lower the emission levels hehe (another exuse they were bithching about)

yes raws is available for a selection cars or will be soon but for somthing like a cefiro or or famila somthing a little rarer just isnt profitable to comply to me that isnt a free choice and goin to put smaller bussineses out of the picture but owell its just a law, theres other cars to buy :headspin:

I resent that! Mines an 88 model, and its cleaner than a lot of the even 92 models I've seen.

BTW you can have mine for the super cheap once only price of $25k :D (btw, Im joking, my car isnt getting sold, unless someone really does offer me that much in cash)

From prestige motorsport

So you've heard about the insane rule changes announced by the Minister on 7th Feb. You're struggling to make sense of the so-called 'transitional arrangements' that simply mean a mad rush for 3-weeks, and you are disgusted by the decision which goes against all commonsense and logic. Perhaps you angry about it all but are not sure what can be done or who to complain to. Well it is nearly too late, but in politics it is never too late.

We need your help to send letters, faxes, e-mails, or to make phone calls.

If you ever want a GTO, or a Cosmo, a cheap R32 GTR, 300ZX, Series 6 RX-7, EVO, NSX, Mercedes, BMW or a multitude of other models that this change will BAN from our shores, then you need to act now. And I mean right NOW. Tonight. Tomorrow. If you put it off, or wait until next week, it will be too late. Would you rather be able to say you at least made an effort, or will you say you stood by and let it happen. Post a quick letter, send a fax, e-mail if you have to, but do something. Then tell your friends about the ridiculous changes and ask them to complain too.

Politics is a fickle business. Some of you may have heard of the trouble that The Hon Jim Lloyd found himself in today. Poor Jim had a bad day, read here about the rorting allegations:

http://www.couriermail.news.com.au/common/...3%5E953,00.html

With kind permission we have reproduced the following from the r34skyline website at: http://www.r34skyline.com/

What can I do to stop this nonsense?

There isn't much point talking to DOTARS, as they will quite happily tell you (off the record) that they are doing it to keep the major car importers happy. DOTARS knows (though doesn't officially admit) that these changes have nothing to do with anything actually mentioned in the press release or FAQ above.

You need to talk to their political masters, soon and loud.

The first one is the Minister for Local Government Territories and Roads, as he made the announcement - The Hon Jim Lloyd

His Parliament House contact details are -

The Hon J. E. Lloyd MP

Member for Robertson

Parliament House

CANBERRA ACT 2600

Ph: (02) 6277 7060

Fax: (02) 6273 7112

Email: [email protected]

Send a letter if you can (fairly quickly), if not then (in order of preference), FAX, ring, or email (politicians tend to ignore email more than they ignore everything else, but it is still better than nothing). He is already under substantial pressure (see this article) so it will be interesting to see his response if a few hundred people start to say how unhappy they are with what he is about to do!

And the same for our Minister for Transport and Regional Services, the Hon John Anderson -

The Hon J. D. Anderson MP

Member for Gwydir

Parliament House

CANBERRA ACT 2600

Ph: (02) 6277 7680

Fax: (02) 6273 4126

Email: [email protected]

The next one to complain to, if you are one of the many small businesses that are going collapse because of this proposal, is the Minister for Small Business and Tourism, the Hon Frances Bailey. Her contact details at parliament are -

The Hon F. E. Bailey MP

Member for McEwen

    • Well, apparently they do fit, however this wont be a problem if not because the car will be stationary while i do the suspension work. I was just going to use the 16's to roll the old girl around if I needed to. I just need to get the E90 back on the road first. Yes! I'm a believer! 🙌 So, I contacted them because the site kinda sucks and I was really confused about what I'd need. They put together a package for me and because I was spraying all the seat surfaces and not doing spot fixes I decided not to send them a headrest to colour match, I just used their colour on file (and it was spot on).  I got some heavy duty cleaner, 1L of colour, a small bottle of dye hardener and a small bottle of the dye top coat. I also got a spray gun as I needed a larger nozzle than the gun I had and it was only $40 extra. From memory the total was ~$450 ish. Its not cheap but the result is awesome. They did add repair bits and pieces to the quote originally and the cost came down significantly when I said I didn't need any repair products. I did it over a weekend. The only issues I had were my own; I forgot to mix the hardener into the dye two coats but I had enough dye for 2 more coats with the hardener. I also just used up all the dye because why not and i rushed the last coat which gave me some runs. Thankfully the runs are under the headrests. The gun pattern wasn't great, very round and would have been better if it was a line. It made it a little tricky to get consistent coverage and I think having done the extra coats probably helped conceal any coverage issues. I contacted them again a few months later so I could get our X5 done (who the f**k thought white leather was a good idea for a family car?!) and they said they had some training to do in Sydney and I could get a reduced rate on the leather fix in the X5 if I let them demo their product on our car. So I agreed. When I took Bec in the E39 to pick it up, I showed them the job I'd done in my car and they were all (students included) really impressed. Note that they said the runs I created could be fixed easily at the time with a brush or an air compressor gun. So, now with the two cars done I can absolutely recommend Colourlock.  I'll take pics of both interiors and create a new thread.
    • Power is fed to the ECU when the ignition switch is switched to IGN, at terminal 58. That same wire also connects to the ECCS relay to provide both the coil power and the contact side. When the ECU sees power at 58 it switches 16 to earth, which pulls the ECCS relay on, which feeds main power into the ECU and also to a bunch of other things. None of this is directly involved in the fuel pump - it just has to happen first. The ECU will pull terminal 18 to earth when it wants the fuel pump to run. This allows the fuel pump relay to pull in, which switches power on into the rest of the fuel pump control equipment. The fuel pump control regulator is controlled from terminal 104 on the ECU and is switched high or low depending on whether the ECU thinks the pump needs to run high or low. (I don't know which way around that is, and it really doesn't matter right now). The fuel pump control reg is really just a resistor that controls how the power through the pump goes to earth. Either straight to earth, or via the resistor. This part doesn't matter much to us today. The power to the fuel pump relay comes from one of the switched wires from the IGN switch and fusebox that is not shown off to the left of this page. That power runs the fuel pump relay coil and a number of other engine peripherals. Those peripherals don't really matter. All that matters is that there should be power available at the relay when the key is in the right position. At least - I think it's switched. If it's not switched, then power will be there all the time. Either way, if you don't have power there when you need it (ie, key on) then it won't work. The input-output switching side of the relay gains its power from a line similar (but not the same as) the one that feeds the ECU. SO I presume that is switched. Again, if there is not power there when you need it, then you have to look upstream. And... the upshot of all that? There is no "ground" at the fuel pump relay. Where you say: and say that pin 1 Black/Pink is ground, that is not true. The ECU trigger is AF73, is black/pink, and is the "ground". When the ECU says it is. The Blue/White wire is the "constant" 12V to power the relay's coil. And when I say "constant", I mean it may well only be on when the key is on. As I said above. So, when the ECU says not to be running the pump (which is any time after about 3s of switching on, with no crank signal or engine speed yet), then you should see 12V at both 1 and 2. Because the 12V will be all the way up to the ECU terminal 18, waiting to be switched to ground. When the ECU switches the fuel pump on, then AF73 should go to ~0V, having been switched to ground and the voltage drop now occurring over the relay coil. 3 & 5 are easy. 5 is the other "constant" 12V, that may or may not be constant but will very much want to be there when the key is on. Same as above. 3 goes to the pump. There should never be 12V visible at 3 unless the relay is pulled in. As to where the immobiliser might have been spliced into all this.... It will either have to be on wire AF70 or AF71, whichever is most accessible near the alarm. Given that all those wires run from the engine bay fusebox or the ECU, via the driver's area to the rear of the car, it could really be either. AF70 will be the same colour from the appropriate fuse all the way to the pump. If it has been cut and is dangling, you should be able to see that  in that area somewhere. Same with AF71.   You really should be able to force the pump to run. Just jump 12V onto AF72 and it should go. That will prove that the pump itself is willing to go along with you when you sort out the upstream. You really should be able to force the fuel pump relay on. Just short AF73 to earth when the key is on. If the pump runs, then the relay is fine, and all the power up to both inputs on the relay is fine. If it doesn't run (and given that you checked the relay itself actually works) then one or both of AF70 and AF71 are not bringing power to the game.
    • @PranK can you elaborate further on the Colorlock Dye? The website has a lot of options. I'm sure you've done all the research. I have old genuine leather seats that I have bought various refurbing creams and such, but never a dye. Any info on how long it lasts? Does it wash out? Is it a hassle? What product do I actually need? Am I just buying this kit and following the steps the page advises or something else? https://www.colourlockaustralia.com.au/colourlock-leather-repair-kit-dye.html
    • These going to fit over the big brakes? I'd be reeeeeeeeaaaall hesitant to believe so.
    • The leather work properly stunned me. Again, I am thankful that the leather was in such good condition. I'm not sure what the indent is at the top of the passenger seat. Like somebody was sitting in it with a golf ball between their shoulders. The wheels are more grey than silver now and missing a lot of gloss.  Here's one with nice silver wheels.
