I picked it up Friday arvo from the transport company’s depot and had a rather interesting drive home. It turned more heads and attracted more comments than any car I have ever driven and I drive a fair share of attention attracting cars (Mustang, Dato 1600 Rally car and many Holden and Ford unreleased models and engineering test cars.

2. Pintara bogans

Pintara bogans - What type or car is that?

Me - Nissan

Pintara bogans - Then why dose it have a Suzuki badge on it

Me - It’s a Stagea Badge

Pintara bogans - A what badge? I thought is was a Nissan

Me - It is, It’s a Skyline wagon.

Pintara bogans - Awesome a turbo wagon just what you want.

It also attracted a fair bit of attention from kids and their Mums in their SUV’s and people movers. Could prove to be a good ice breaker with the bored house wives.

I love the looks you get in the stagea, of usually 'wtf is that'? The good part is that it has some go to match the looks..

The people I get looking at it are generally older then the people I used to with my old car (Orange Turbo Starlet featured in fast fours) which I definatly like

Congrats man, welcome to the life of weird looks and trying to explain what a stagea is for the rest of your life.

It happened to me the other night

Guy "what's that?"

Me "A Nissan Stagea"

Guy "A what?"

Me "It's like a skyline wagon"

Guy "Do a burnout!!"

Me "It's AWD mate"

Guy "4WD.... do a burnout!"

Hey - another Stag owner in their first week! Congrats - I picked mine up Wednesday :D

And yeah - head turner!!... prob extra stare value coz its a bright yellow series 2 !

Driving through Willetton yesterday and a group of guys were out front of their house with digicam taking photos of a new Supra and this guy with the camera just turned on his heels and started snapping shots of me as I flew by! Funny stuff... can imagine his train of thought "OK - a few shots of my nice new Supr ... WHOOA theres a new yellow STAGEA *click* *click* *click* *click* *click* *click*

lol what a tool i hope you just flicked him off and drove off :D

anyways yea congrats on getting a steage burns should be good fun also is that yours in your pictures noticed the nice little FMIC :)

Thanks guys.

Part of my reason for getting a Stagea is that I am sick of the bad attention that I have been getting in the Skyline. So far the Stagea seems to just get annoying attention I just hope it stays that way and that dip shits don’t get into them and spoil it for everyone.

Yeah that’s it in my Gallery pics

yeah I know what you guys mean. Even over here in NZ which is a little more lenient on import vehicles being complied, I get a lot of looks. There are more of the Stagea's on the road now, but I still get a lot of comments ranging from young and old. I was most surprised the other day when visiting a lady friend and her Dad knew what they were, turbo 4wd etc, he poured over it for a good 20-30 mins. Over Xmas was parked up watching a free to public laser light show and a group of young guys sitting on an older 4wd were talking amongst themselves (we could hear them though). One thought it was a ford, in fact very adament about that, a mate of his was correcting him saying he thought it was one of those rare Nissan wagon's built like a GTR. His mate thought he was taking the piss. Had a couple of cops in my car as well ( earlier mentioned lady friend is training to be an officer), and they were most interested in the setup. Said they'd seen them on the road and not really sure what they were. Not often noticed as being a hooning car though, good and low key :)

Damn I love the yellow series 2 stag, good buy there :)

I had some 12 year old boy on a bike that was riding along and stopped and was looking at the car as I was walking back for the shops and he said "damn thats a really nice car" and I said thanks and then he said "do a burnout when you leave" :( Damn younguns..

Amazed me that such a young kid liked it ;)

Welcome to the ever growing band of Stagea owners

My latest WTFiT, young country fella (it was Tamworth after all) in VL (RB30) Commondoor. Pulled up behind him while he was filling up with gas, he almost dropped his nozzle;

"Mate, gotta ask what is that".

The usual "It's Stagea"

Usual puzzled look,

"a Skyline waggon".

"Oh, turbo?"

"Yep, and 4wd like a GTR"

"Nice!"

He waited while I filled up and drove off so he could see it driving down the main street.:wavey:

;)

hey guys, sounds very familiar ;)

i only drove the stagea for about 2 weeks before i took it off the road for the conversion and i got more looks than my rb26 purple VL Calais which used to get everyone looking, i thought hehe. but the stagea is good cause people just think WTF is that rather than immediately thinking purple vl= modified, such as cops :(

so when my rb26 engine is running its gonna be a bloody fun wagon to cruise around in and surprise plenty of people

Hey Lone... thanks man - I am pretty happy with it - its a nicer yellow than I expected... in the digital pics from the yard it looked really bright yellow (canary yellow)... but its actually a good couple of shades darker and deeper.

Still so torn up on wheel colour to really set off the yellow body... I really cant decide between gunmetal or non-gloss black (eg Lenso ZT6 or Enkie RP03 hyperblack) to match in with the amount of black in the body/windows, or white (eg Te-37), or plain silver.... or a set of R34 GTR rims... hmmm.

I dont think Ill know until i buy a set on impulse I think

But yeah - first week of ownership sure is exciting... burning a hole in my wallet just thinking about what to do to it first!

:D

If you really want to set off the yellow then get a set of indigo coloured rims, though it will depend on how visually 'loud' you want to go - indigo coloured gunmetal finish if you can find them shouldn't look too bad. I reckon black rims would just concentrate attention to the yellow without taking notice of the rims. Gunmetal would look ok, but even a hint of indigo in the rims would work better from a colour contrast point of view.

hey tigerleo, i have a fulltime job and i do ALL the labour except wiring the 4wd up which hyperdrive motorsport is doin :)

but i tell u what its scary adding up the cost of everything, i have bought all the stuff over the space of 4 years so its a slow process, but i had the goodies all from the vl, like autronics smc ecu, high flow turbos, 700cc injectors, gtr cooler, 044 fuel pump, yadda yadda.....

i cant wait for the first cruise in it ;)

estimated time of completion is 2 weeks from today..... WOOO HOOOOOOOO

exhuast is what we are doin atm, twin 3" off each turbo into single 4" then a 4" magic performance cat convertor, then reduces to 3.5' into a 3.5' stainless muffler, and then 3.5' all the way to rear into a large apexi muffler, gotta be nice and quiet :)

just installing the two (yes 2 ) geo42 GOSS fuel pumps into the tank, and then they feed a external bosch motorsport 044 pump which i gotta mount yet

piping is being welded by someone else, and its all aluminium mmm :)

gotta add all the engine /gearbox/front diff OILS and then shes ready, once lumpy wires up the stuff for 4wd and its ready to fire

engine bay is totally polished to the max and new catch can setup is worth $600 alone, with 2 metres of braided line and 4 x dash 12 fittings and the catch can itself plus the k and n filter on it :) but it looks good and im happy

welcome to the world of modifying cars hehe, cost alot and cash doesnt go far when doin this sort of conversion let me tell you :)

im single so i dont have the costs of a g/f like i had for the past 3 years until last november so i got $$$ :) and now i got the time to actually do stuff on it :)

gonna be awesome and ill post some piccies of the engine bay soon when i get time

gotta go

don`t wish to sound pedantic..but the attessa system dosen`t make it a GTR driveline... 2.5 auto was never in a gtr , your driveline is the same as r33 gts -4 turbo (ENR33)

as someone who bent over big for the autech version..the genuine gtr driveline ...getting a little annoyed with this claim/confusion

:(

The RS4 shares most of its undercarriage with the R33 and R34 GTR. i know this because when trying to source bushes and suspension, most of the time the parts are from a GTR. I think it's a fair call to say it has GTR driveline even though it's not the Autech. easier than saying GTS4 auto driveline, which even less people know of

:bs!:

Lol - i know you said u didnt "wish to sound pedantic" - but it does to me... a bit too easily annoyed maybe? Not really that big a deal in my book Burns - its your car so call it what you like :( If I pulled up alongside a 'van goon' at the lights Id probably say whatever I could make up just for a laugh... "Its the new 2005 R35 GTR wagon with 400rwkW from factory"... Its sort of like someone having a go at the accuracy of your avatar... "Fat Datsun Wagon"... well TECHNICALLY, having spent ages restoring a genuine old Datsun wagon, I am a bit annoyed at people comparing a modern day Nissan..... LOL - sorry couldnt resist :)

But yeah - on the same topic though of accuracy of comparison... I've been trying to work out what the comparable 'drive-line' for my series 2 would be - seeings i dont think there was a 4WD version of the R34 GTT (could be wrong), I cant really say "R34 GTT engine with a ???? drive-line"...

Anyone know what the Series 2 driveline has also been used in??

    • Thanks for that, I'll check it all out. I can always do the brakes last anyway if its a problem.  The 16's are super cool, if they do fit I'll cruise around with them for a bit.
    • Well, that's kinda the point. The calipers might interfere with the inside of the barrels 16" rims are only about 14" inside the barrels, which is ~350mm, and 334mm rotors only leave about 8mm outboard for the caliper before you get to 350, And.... that;s not gunna be enough. If the rims have a larger ID than that, you might sneak it in. I'd be putting a measuring stick inside the wheel and eyeballing the extra required for the caliper outboard of the rotor before committing to bolting it all on.
    • OK, so again it has been a bit of a break but it was around researching what had been done since I didn't have access to Neil's records and not everything is obvious without pulling stuff apart. Happily the guy who assembled the engine had kept reasonable records, so we now know the final spec is: Bottom end: Standard block and crank Ross 86.5mm forgies, 9:1 compression Spool forged rods Standard main bolts Oil pump Spool billet gears in standard housing Aeroflow extended and baffled sump Head Freshly rebuilt standard head with new 80lb valve springs Mild porting/port match Head oil feed restrictor VCT disabled Tighe 805C reground cams (255 duration, 8.93 lift)  Adjustable cam gears on inlet/exhaust Standard head bolts, gasket not confirmed but assumed MLS External 555cc Nismo injectors Z32 AFM Bosch 023 Intank fuel pump Garret 2871 (factory housings and manifold) Hypertune FFP plenum with standard throttle   Time to book in a trip to Unigroup
    • I forgot about my shiny new plates!
    • Well, apparently they do fit, however this wont be a problem if not because the car will be stationary while i do the suspension work. I was just going to use the 16's to roll the old girl around if I needed to. I just need to get the E90 back on the road first. Yes! I'm a believer! 🙌 So, I contacted them because the site kinda sucks and I was really confused about what I'd need. They put together a package for me and because I was spraying all the seat surfaces and not doing spot fixes I decided not to send them a headrest to colour match, I just used their colour on file (and it was spot on).  I got some heavy duty cleaner, 1L of colour, a small bottle of dye hardener and a small bottle of the dye top coat. I also got a spray gun as I needed a larger nozzle than the gun I had and it was only $40 extra. From memory the total was ~$450 ish. Its not cheap but the result is awesome. They did add repair bits and pieces to the quote originally and the cost came down significantly when I said I didn't need any repair products. I did it over a weekend. The only issues I had were my own; I forgot to mix the hardener into the dye two coats but I had enough dye for 2 more coats with the hardener. I also just used up all the dye because why not and i rushed the last coat which gave me some runs. Thankfully the runs are under the headrests. The gun pattern wasn't great, very round and would have been better if it was a line. It made it a little tricky to get consistent coverage and I think having done the extra coats probably helped conceal any coverage issues. I contacted them again a few months later so I could get our X5 done (who the f**k thought white leather was a good idea for a family car?!) and they said they had some training to do in Sydney and I could get a reduced rate on the leather fix in the X5 if I let them demo their product on our car. So I agreed. When I took Bec in the E39 to pick it up, I showed them the job I'd done in my car and they were all (students included) really impressed. Note that they said the runs I created could be fixed easily at the time with a brush or an air compressor gun. So, now with the two cars done I can absolutely recommend Colourlock.  I'll take pics of both interiors and create a new thread.
