cameron
Does it sound like its dropped a cylinder ? Could be fouled plug's or dirty afm even check coilpack's. Sounds more like the afm has got dirt on the sensor, you can clean this with brake cleaner as it leave's no residue. Jordan
Yeah, sounds like when I popped the intercooler pipe hose when I was playing with the boost. Could barely idle. Wouldnt be surprised if it is AFM related like Cameron said Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/65597-r32-wont-idle-black-smoke/#findComment-1226012 Share on other sites

cameron
Try the plugs, maby one has died & its not firing. Sounds more like an afm problem, - comes and goes when it wants, maby it has died altogether, if you want to test one i got 2 spare you can borrow. predator
yeah.. I'd say 90% likely to be AFM. AFM controls idle mixtures, so if it's buggered will blow a heap of black smoke, idle irregularly, etc. A clean might not be enough to fix it. You'll have to try swapping in another one and see if that fixes the problem. I wouldn't bother with the irridiums, and save the dosh towrds the possible new AFM... that is unless you really were thinking of putting irridiums in anyway. The Dan
How does it run once it has warmed up. Does it still blow black smoke? If the plugs don't work, check for vacuum leaks and check the coolant temperature sensor resistance. xr8eater
update shes up and running after the plug change but now has a stamer under high acceleration and i know the cure is to gap down the plugs but irridums say not to gap them down hence my delema Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/65597-r32-wont-idle-black-smoke/#findComment-1232053 Share on other sites
cameron
Was the porslin craked & yellowish, also what colour were they - oily ? They recommend not to gap the irridums because you take off the coating on the plug which stuff's them up. GTR_NUTZ
hey all. i have the same problem with my GT-R32. it happened all of a sudden last night, so i did a search to see if i can self diagnose the problem my self. on cold idle its fine, but after a few mins it starts to spalter around 500-800 RPM, with black smoke out the exhaust. is this the same problem? and to fix it, is this the same? thanks JUSTIN Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/65597-r32-wont-idle-black-smoke/#findComment-1317497 Share on other sites
xr8eater
as the boys said clean the afm first then clean the air flow regulator it's a prick to get to thats why i would leave it till after you clean the afm i had one stuffed plug that caused my splutter Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/65597-r32-wont-idle-black-smoke/#findComment-1319285 Share on other sites
GTR_NUTZ
chears mate... im not into all this mumbo jumbo stuff... but im learning, and for a muscle head like me, i think i know a little.... i have twin airpods and im %99 sure i know where the AFM is located. and cause of the twin airpods, ill have twin AFM's right? BUT as for the "air flow regulator," whats he look like, and where is he...? i have wednesday off work, so i plan to pull it all apart give it a decent clean. and i am ment to use break cleaner. thats what its called right? and as for the coil packs, and spark plugs, i plan to get a full survice done, oil filter relocation and cool kit fitted in about a week... just waiting on payday. thanks for the help so far. GTR_NUTZ
ok... get this....... my car is still doing the same shat. so put it all back together, and left it for a few days. this morning i popped the hood, unclipped the clips that clip on the AFMs and started it up.... Fine. idles the same as before i had the problem. i let it sit there and idle for a while, jumped in and took it down the street, BUT i couldnt get boost. is this because i unplugged the two plugs and it wasnt reading it??? any-way, i took it home, popped the bonnet, plugged in only one of the clips while it was still running, and the car started to idle real low again. then stalled about 3-5 seconds after plugging it in. so i unpluggerd it, started it up, and plugged in the secnd. the same resault. unplugged it, started it up with out the plugs in, and it was fine. WTF is up with that? have my AFMs shot them selfs??? or have i shot them... one more question.... whats the difference between an "Air Flow Meter", and an "Air Mas Meter" ??? they both measure the air that comes in right? The Dan
Air flow meter is more commonly known as being the kind that have the flap inside and the needle that reads the flap's position. Air mass meter is more commonly the hot wire kind that measures air as a mass. You have an air mass meter. They can be referred to as either but technically that is the difference.
