Hi,

Thinking of upgrading the fuel pumps in both our GTSTs. Currently the 040 is looking to be the replacement because of the price and ease of installation. Just waneed to know if they are much louder (as compared to a GTR pump), or if anyone's had any problems starting their car after installation..

I remember reading on here a while ago that someone had to crank their car several times before it started after installing an 040 - or was that a one off.

Also, as a replacement for a car pushing 300kw, would the 040 flow enough?

i used a 984 (i think these are used in porsche turbos ?!?). they are just smaller than the 044 lengthways, and should flow more than the 040 from the bosch pump link (driftkng has it on his for pumps 4 sale ad).

if u want the most headroom then 044 is the way to go.

the 984 makes some noise compared to the factory pump but i have written an install guide in the DIY section which may help explain it a way to minimise it.

ps. did u buy that IC??

I've had an 040 in my car for about 1yr now.

It's certainly harder to start (you have to switch the ignition on, wait for the fuel pump to click off and then turn the key over).

I can hear the pump but -only- when starting my car at midnight in the garage with the roller doors shut (ie, you can't hear it out on the street).

I have a bosch 910 installed externally

It starts fine

I dont wait for the pump to click off before I start, is this bad?

It makes a slight buzzing noise in the cabin barely noticable if you have the parcel shelf and rear seats on. But lately at idle it seems to be buzzing louder than usual, Im not sure why either... hope its not dying :wassup:

Yeah I think it was your post I saw, plus a mate of mine who got a Bosch pump (not sure which model) had the same thing happen.

I'd say the problems with the cars not starting would be the check valve wasn't installed on the pump when installed. If you don't do this the pump has to re-prime the system once the car has been left for awhile.

Below is a photo of the 044 we installed in my r33 four weeks ago - I didn't install the check valve so will have to fix this when I get round to it.

The 044 only just fits into the tank and was a pain in the arse job so if I did it again I'd keep the factory pump intank as a lift pump then use the aftermarket one externally.

    • roof rail delete used to be a thing, they were made locally for a while too
    • I can get more photos of it here soon and I plan to make a thread detailing the process. I received the car this way and it sorely needs refinishing. That is probably the most appealing photo of it. Up close it is fading, cracked, and needs to be re-glued. Depending on their condition I'm on the fence between refinishing or making a new set.  Another angle hiding the pimples and razor pumps  
    • According to this thread the RS4V with build plate RC40 comes with the R200 diff @ 4.083 ratio as well (mine has said RC40 denotation). We may need to check if the axle stubs are the same pattern as well. The auto subframes have longer axles. However I think yours being a later Series 2 as well, we should have the same bolt pattern for the diff stubs. Unless your upgraded rear also has upgraded axles. Either way, I would not be opposed to pulling the covers to check so I can inspect that  fancy rear core  Also I don't have HICAS. I don't believe that should change things but I hope the people here with heaps more experience than me can correct me if I'm wrong   Let me know if you want to attempt to make this work and I can get some pictures of mine from under the car. 
    • It's not that straightforward. For example I have had this code because my ignitor/power transistor wires were unplugged. It knows something is wrong but has no idea what it means. If you want to actually diagnose this I recommend following the service manual flowchart for code 21. Ohm out the harness, coilpacks, inspect the ECU, etc. And again, it's entirely possible for there to be no problem at all but if you're running a different coilpack it'll trigger the code because it doesn't like what it sees.
    • If it (the code) wasn't still current, it should have gone away by itself by now. No, nothing it 10/10. But it is quite likely. Everything else to do with the ignition could still be responsible (which is wires and connectors). The car is an old piece of shit now, so all the wires and connectors are also old pieces of shit.
