I've recorded base map for the R32 RB20DET AP Engineering PowerFC.

For those that are curious check it out.

I will post up the modified map once its tuned to suit the 3ltr.

If any one has done similiar I would be interested to check out the RB25DET base map.

Or if you have an RB30DET I would be very interested in checking out its map.

At first I had an issue with Idle.

I took the car for a drive so it was nice and warm.

Pulled the plug off the AAC.

Set idle to 650rpm.

Connected the AAC plug back up.

Reset the PowerFC and took it through its 30min learn.

10min idle, 10min idle elec load, 10min idle a/c.

I now have a 100% repeatable stable idle. No hunting and no occasional 1100rpm idle when pulling up at the lights.

Hmmm interesting, mine idles great with the AAC plug out too. I don't really want to reset the power fc yet and loose my settings. Pity i havent got a laptop so i can record the settings straight into xls. I'll have to do it the long way

With mine the trick was to get the car idling ever so slightly under what its set in the powerfc, i.e not going over the rpm set in the pfc.

My idle vary's ~25rpm up and down. Without the AAC plug hooked up it would idle from 620-640 and some times 650rpm. But not going over.

Then it HAS to be reset to do the learn thing again.

I tried simply adjusting the PowerFC's idle setting up then back down again in an attempt to get it to re-learn however it caused MAJOR idle hunt issues and didn't re-learn.

Write down all your maps, post them here and then fiddle with the idle. :D

So back to the Z32.. What you are saying is plugging up the Z32 afm does alter the load readings when map tracing on WOT?

Like now it reads load point 19 at WOT 2000rpm. With the Z32 will it drop that to say for example 17 or 16?

My idle was pretty good when i plugged in the pfc after the learn process.

But then i put the z32 in and i've had to add more fuel to stablise the idle at low rpm, It would hunt around and sit at 900rpm all the time. Now its around 670rpm.

I'm thinking of resetting the power fc again and doing the learn process with the z32 in there.

Yes exactly, as the Z32 can read more voltage your load points will drop. For instance, i am using load point 16 between 4000rpm and 5000rpm and im running 18.4psi. If i drop it back to 15psi, it reads to load 14.

Yep thats right.. Did you take notice the before and after with the stock afm vs the Z32?

Mine with the stock AFM will hit load point 18 from as low as 2000rpm when accelerating from a low speed in second.

The reason I'm asking the question is if I fit the Z32 up will it require a re-tune?

I know what your saying Joel.I installed the Z32 a few days before I got it tuned so i can't help ya there.

Here is my tune with GTR injectors,GT2535 11psi :Oops:

Over 12 on the load it's not tuned so any more than 15psi it has a fit and injectors hit 100% duty!!

    • FWIW, I've aerated oil, and cams snapped. You can figure out the rest 🥲

    • Yeah, but look at the margin in viscosity between the 40 and the 60 at 125°C. It is not very large. It is the difference between 7 and 11 cP. Compare that to the viscosity at only 90°C. The viscosity axis is logarithmic. The numbers at 90 are ~15 and ~35. That is about half for the 40 wt oil and <half for the 60. You give up viscosity EXPONENTIALLY as temperature rises. Literally. That is why I declare thicker oil to be a bandaid, and a brittle one at that. Keep the oil temperature under about 110°C and you should be better off.   Having said all of that, which remains true as a general principle, if you have indeed lost enough oil from the sump that the pump was seeing slightly aerated oil, then all bets are off. That would of course cause oil pressure to collapse. And 35 psi is a collapse given what you were doing to the engine. Especially if the oil was that hot and viscosity had also collapsed. And I would put money on rod or main bearings being the source of the any noise that registered as knock. Hydraulic lifters should be able to cope with the hotter oil and lower pressure enough to prvent too much high frequency noise, although I am willing to admit it could be the source.
