yeh I have cam gears in mind, and I might go with the cam gears and the S-AFC. I do realise that the power fc is much better because you can adjust fuel as well as ignition, but i simply do not have the funds.

What sorta power increase would we be looking at?

I will tell you saturday after I have dialed mine in. :)

I have just fitted them this week and will be putting it on the dyno Fri/Sat to set it up properly. I have boost up, turbo back exhaust, pods, and now the cam gears. Should be pretty similar to yours. Will let you know.

Mick.

Save for the power FC, it's really worth it! Midrange power is heaps now, and distances between corners seem so short. Why waste money hooking up and tuning an afc when the power fc is da bomb??? If you can afford a gtr, I'm sure you can afford a power fc. In the end you'll probably end up getting one anyway.

If you really want to spend the money now, suspension. Swaybars really help the R turn in better, and stops bodyroll. 1470kg isn't exactly light.

Will let you know as soon as I do.

The other day we had 204rwkw but that was with it leaning out like crazy at the top end and with 13 odd pound. I have just today replaced the AFM which were stuffed and it has picked up heaps.

Silver-Arrows: what kind of performance gains did you get?....the suspension has already been done by the way. the mods i listed were only the mods associated with the power of the car.

how much would a power fc set me back....but just the FC....not hand controller...perhaps i will consider it but i dunno..have to see.

an additional odd $700 seems alot for just the fc.....what are the benefits of the fc?

either way...im definately going to get the cam gears

The FC i brought was second hand from Nengun. It was about 1300, but an additional 300 for the hand controller.

I got it tuned, but they tuned it at only 0.5 bar boost. It made a lame 160kw on all 4 wheels. The tuner selected the option of boost controller kit to on, which I don't have. That's why boost was only 0.5 bar. I fixed this today and it's running at 1 bar boost. Don't know how much power, but trust me, your brakes are going to need upgrading.

also..was there much difference in performance from 1bar/stock ecu to 1bar/powerfc?

Oh yeah!!! :)

I love the way the car pulls away now. Before it didn't have much midrange punch. Now it just pulls away and leaves me grinning like an idiot. People give me funny looks after I've stopped and try to take in what just happened.

hahahaha...thats what I want to hear :(

has anyone here fitted an S-AFC to their gtr....if so what was the performance gain like?

surely an S-AFC and adjustable cam gears would give some wicked mid range?

Silver-Arrows: have you got any other mods like Cam gears?

EDIT: with the sort of power you'd be making with these sorts of mods...would the ceramic wheels in the turbos be a problem? (last long?)....keep in mind only running 1bar.

Little. BOV's, air filters, cat back exhaust, thincker FMIC, bigger radiator, oil cooler. Oh, I've put cable straps around the intercooler piping. They expand under load so this stops it from expanding, and spools up better. It helps. $2 for a stack of cable ties, can't complain about cost there.

Should not be a problem if you stay 1 bar or under.

Although I believe the powerFC is a very good ECU replacement (and I was amazed at the number of options of tuning it had when my friend fired his up for the first time the other nite) I wonder how much bang for bucks it has when running the ceramic standard turbos.

I was in exact position about 3 days ago choosing between powerFC and SAFC and I got the SAFC cos I thuoght it would do almost (obviously not AS good) a job but saved around $1200 or so from a second hand powerFC. With $1200 you can do quite a lot of other shit and I'm intending to spend it on cam gears + front pipes + dump pipes.

But its all up to you.... when it comes time to get bigger turbos I'll get a powerFC then. In terms of pure power the cam gears + SAFC are more bang for bucks... the powerFC allows you to do more later and adds efficiency throughout all tuning aspects giving more balance.. but at a price.

Ok finished dynoing the car last night. Took ten runs to get it right with lots of tinkering in the mean time. Got 240rwkw in the end but most impressive of all is the way that the car feels now. Smoother, far more low down throttle responce. It has over 200kw at 4200rpm. It is very toey down low. Far more responsive and much nicer to drive. It feels heaps smoother and easier to drive off boost (not that it was difficult b4 but it is way different now).

So BoOsTed go for it. It is a big difference. Well worth it. Just take your time and set them up correctly. Every car is different and needs slightly different settings.

Mick.

    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
