Group Buy Ezitrak GPS/GSM Tracking Systems

Alot of people on here have probably heard about these units. I believe quite a few forum members have them in their vehicles.

The units are a tracking security system which uses GPS (satellite) for position tracking and GSM for commuication. Basically, the way it works is that you have a small box mounted in your car, this box contains a simcard (supplied by the user). The user will receive a phone call and SMS if any of the following conditions are detected:

• Intruder (ie door opened)
  
• Ignition Tamper
  
• Tow away (detected using GPS if the vehicle moves a certain distance from where it was parked)
  
• Battery cut (if the intruder cuts the main battery, the unit runs of the included backup battery and notifies the user)
  
• Courtesy call if the battery voltage drops a set amount (eg if you left your lights on)
  

The unit provides the following information in the SMS and phone call:

• Vehicle status (why the call was made)
  
• Vehicle Position
  
• Vehicle speed
  
• Direction of travel
  
• Distance from where vehicle was parked
  
• Distance from home base (user sets this to his own home)
  

All information about your vehicle can be retrived at any time by making a phone call to your car's phone number and following the voice menus, or by sending an SMS and awaiting the reply.

In addition to this, you also have the ability to lock/unlock the car from your phone (great if you left your keys on the car). You can also disable the engine at any time form your phone (good if you get hijacked). Note that the unit performs a soft cut for ~60sec before cutting engine totally for safety reasons.

With optional software, you can even track your car on a moving map using your PC or PDA.

Note that There are no ongoing fees with this unit, you only pay for the phone calls that it makes, which should be nothing unless your car gets broken into.

I have negotiated a special price on the remote control ezitrak unit which comes with 2 remote key fobs. The normal RRP on the remote units from the manufaturer is about $1300.

Note that this price is supply only, but anyone who has ever fitted a car alarm, boost controller, car stereo etc should be able to fit this unit...it is quite easy.

If we have 5 purchasers, the units will be $1000each. Note that for this price, a special GSM antenna is included. This antenna provides better reception and is easier to conceal than the standard antenna that comes with the kit.

You are looking at the non-remote version (need to call to arm/disarm). The rpices I have quoted are for the REMOTE version. The site lists at $1285, but that is without the upgraded antenna.

Sounds like a great deal and a great alarm.

What sensors are included in the base package for $1000? Eg. break glass, microwave, motion, tilt etc. etc.

Yep...comes with backup battery. Definately essential.

Only triggers off doors and GPS movement. You can add shock sensors or ultrasonics etc, but not usually a good idea as they are prone to false alarms.

Hmmm... So really this alarm system is only good if someone is going to steal the actual car. Some1 could completly strip my car without opening the door or moving it and I wouldnt even know about it.

I think the accessories would be a good idea, and i dont know about them being prone to false alarms. I have a viper 791xv 2 way pager system with every add on man can buy and never get false alarms.

Do you have access to add on accessories?

I personally don't like the other ypes of sensors, but yes you can fit them. I find shock sensors especially useless, if they are set soft enough to actually be triggered, a loud exhaust/stereo/truck will always set them off.

Pretty damn hard to strip a car without opening it...maybe wheels that's about it.

I know that the alarm that I've got (viper 791xv) can have a GPS system hooked up to it, so this is the case with most alarms?

Are you going to supply the addons? If not i can get heaps of DEI add ons quite cheap (about 50% off)

and what type of plan?

** Don't they have a monthly access fee? $20-$30 per month?

There is no access fee for the tracker. You only pay the mobile carriers charges. I use Vodafone no plans, which means I only pay for the calls that the tracker actually makes (next to nothing)

There is an Optus $9/month plan, which includes enough calls

You can also use prepaid and only pay for calls you use.

Depends on who does it and exactly what you want done. Around about $200-250 for a Japanese car.

quite easy to fit yourself though.

4) I have hooked them up to other alarms before - no problems.

5) Can't really be linked to a nav system, but can be lin ked to a PDA so you can track the car in real time.

The price is about as low as it can get I think. I have a group of five now and will be making an order very early in the week. If anyone wants to jump in, they are welcome to.
