GREAT! I get back from Queensland Thursday night and decide to go for a small drive with the mrs on friday night, i'm going down a really quiet street doing 60 and the mrs informs me its 50 so i slow down, then about 500 metres down and round a bend we pass a cop, he has a glance at me as i go past then decides to turn his lights on and pull me over and here i am going 'Oh Shit'!

Well i ended up getting defected for BOV and turbo timer.

the problem is being a BOV i have to go to regency, now my car isn't really modified but i've been told that the car has to be virtually standard or your screwed so do this mean i have to put stockies back on instead of the 18's? standard suspension even though mine is above legal height? and my exhaust though it isn't very loud!

I'm worried!

You won't need to change the suspension if it isn't adjustable and is of legal height.

You will need to change the wheels - can get by with 2 sizes above stock, meaning 17s are ok but not 18s.

Should be ok with the exhaust if it isn't too loud.

And of course you will need to get rid of the BOV and turbo timer.

A turbo timer is illegal because there is some law that doesn't allow a car to be running while not attended - thats what i've heard anyhow.

yeah and in the unlike happenning of a rollover ur car will still run with a turbo timer, therefore clasified as dangerous and not ADR compliant

The turbo-timer rule is absolutely rediculous, as I am yet to see a turbo timer that won't engage unless the handbrake is fully on - meaning if you had an accident the car would just shut off anyhow. But try and explain that to the cops ....

To ALL,

Arent std wheels 16" and therefore 18" would be legal provided the correct offset and tyre size is used,and dont start up the debate about adj suspension---adj coil over suspension is legal by the adr's and many cars come with them std and are adr approved and hence registerable!

Thats rubbish, your allowed up to 18in wheels and as long as suspension isnt adjustable thats ok too. Exhaust should be ok if not to loud.

Be sure to take a very close note of how well they check out the motor that is sitting under the bonnet.

It will no doubt come in handy at a later date.

I've got the engine stand also. I have only just got all the gyprocking, flushing and sanding finished and we have moved back in. :)

Everything is still a mess and slowly being unpacked. :D

sorry to say that isn't true Kym. Just ask the plethora of people who have been told to either weld them in position, or get rid of them before Regency will pass them. I know for a fact that Soarers with air bag suspension have no hope of getting through. What Aus delivered cars have adjustable suspension?

Tons of people, including people on these forums, have had the big thumbs down from Regency for adjustable suspension. It is the same theory as a boost controller or turbo timer - you can't just turn them off to go through Regency - in fact if you even have any of the wiring looms or any part thereof they will not pass you. Regency figure that if you 'can' lower your car after you leave, then you will. It's a load of bs, but they are the rules.

How do all the Soarers and Nissan Cimas with Airbags get through then, I have seen them around registed. It would be alot of bother to pull it out for regular suspension and refit it.

I know of a couple people that have got throught with Turbo timers, they are just not switched on and hidden away.

I quized regency a little while back regarding using my daily driver at Mallala.

1. big loud exhaust.. Its perfectly legal to drive around on the street with a silencer attached.

2. adjustable suspension is legal providing it is set to stock height.

3. The cross-over pipe, bov & associated piping, piping between the turbo and afm must not be modified at all. Only pipe work that is allowed to be modified is before the cross-over pipe that goes to the ic. You are allowed to fit a fmic providing it doesn't protrude lower than the bumper and you do not cut any of the body to make it fit.. i.e GTR style on a GTST

4. pod must be attached firmly and not be oiled, if oiled it MUST be in a box.

Thats what I was 'told', we all know that what one person down at regency states may be a totally different story when the time it comes to be inspected.

Especially if the bloke inspecting the car is one of those knobs that shout out pssshhhtt or turbo's suck as they walk down the road with a beer in one hand.

To ALL.

Some of the euro up market cars come fitted with coilovers,however two that do come to mind are the ss bullet roadster,and the dodge viper both are registered in aust after complying with our adr's.The trouble with regency is they tell you that and every one believes them and no one challenges them to be shown the particular adr that states that adjustable suspension is illegal.What i can tell you is that welding,drilling to lock your suspension is in fact illegal and regency are breaking the law in telling you to do so!Also what are you to do when your springs sag after about 15 months and you go below the legal ride height- with conventional susp you would have to throw it away however with coil overs you can reset the ride height back to your original settings.This also has advantages when corner weighting your car for perfect handling and balance-you adj the corners of you car to differerent heights to produce a more even weight on each corner(incl allowing for the drivers weight in the drivers seat!)Every engineer ive seen interviewed has stated that it does comply with the adr's,regency is simply trying to bluff you because that's what tim ireland wants.

    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.   
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.

    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
    • So, now all you need to do is connect the 2 or 3x 12v feeds into the unit to permanent 12v, ACC 12V and IGN 12V that you can find in the spot behind the stereo, and the earth, and then it will switch on with the car.
