^^^^ exactly

hey it could have been worse i could have not bought this car while i was on my l's and had no experience in it what so ever, got it on my 18th birthday, got in it as a new p'plater and have no idea what im doing.

its a bit like the whole curfew idea for p-platers..... its stupid because if they dont get the opertunity to drive late at night while they are on thier p's then they will be just as inexperienced when they turn 21 and get thier opens, its not like you turn 21 and wake up with new skills and experience lol

thats also why i dont agree with power to weight restrictions, because i know plenty of people who are on thier opens who are too inmature and irrisponsible to be behind the wheel of a powerful car.

anyways people i didnt really intend for this thread to turn into a learner driver, insurance, and power to weight restriction topic, it was more a thread to intorduce myself and show my car.

so if any mods are reading this then i think it may be a good idea to lock this thread :)

cheers

thanks everyone!

hope to see you round, give me a wave if you see me driving around.

I really cannot be bothered reading the entire topic, but i have to agree with what i have read.

I am 19, on my P's and live in Box Hill (and currently making just shy of 50,000k a year).

I see alot of P platers getting away with it, but then again you just have to check like carsales.com.au or carpoint.com.au to see how many P platers are having 'urgent sales' of their skylines.

Vicroads probably dont have a clue, and alot of police officers probably dont, allegedly those 'TMU' bastards are the ones that know their shit.

That really is too powerful for a p-plater, i drive a car that is way less powerful then that, and i drive it ****en fast ;) (140km/h down wellington road before i decided that was enough hehe :$ or 160 around fishermens bend) Not dangerously, but fast, i didnt at first, but thats how it happens, when you have a car that has a bit of zip, you thrash it :D

I also spend ALOT of time in knox, scoresby, rowville area, ive been 'booze bus'ed 4x in 2 months, and waved through 3x, one time a copper was checking out every detail of my car, even the rego, im not sure he knew what sort of car it was (it is legal way legal), ive been asked for my license and everything.

So yeh, odds are you will get caught, and chances are you wont be covered.

But of a waste of money really, you should have saved up for another 6 months and gotten a WRX, a bank will loan you like 20,000 (with a gurantor), and if you have 20k already then you can get your self a nice 03 wrx for 36-37k, use the rest on insurance, and it is actually legal.

you just spent like 21k on a 10 year old car, that has no doubt be thrashed before, that you legally cant drive, and that you will be lucky to keep for the full 3 years you are on your p's.

I plan to get a rex, then when im off my P's in 2 years time hopefully a R33 GTR if my gf/future wife permits ;-) Depends :-)

Anyway, i think you should have waited, quite irresponsible of your parents to let you drive a turbo car pushing out 184kW stock, that is not legal, when you are only 17.

But i admire that you allegedly payed for it and not your parents, i despise people who do that.

Edit:

Although i just said its irresponsible for a young one to be driving such a powerful vehicle, yes a rex is pretty quick, 168kw stock, but i am more into 'the look' and 'luxury' of a car, not so much into power, i will no doubt drive it quick merely from bad habbit.

Work in 'I.T', hard to say waht i do, i mean what do i call my self? Im nto sure of my own title.... I.T Consultant maybe..

Its between 40-50k ;) It is my second job, my first was at a rather large well known national company (ASX 200 listed), so the second job was kinda just a 'we'll better what you were being payed before' sorta thing, which of course i lied about. But im worth every cent they pay me.

Anyway back to cars... I know if i had kids, i would not let my 17 year old by a 6cyl 2.5ltr Turbo :| A 4cyl car would be good for a beginner :| Maybe something around 100-110 kw :|

Or if you really wanted some power at the cost of some weight go with like an XR6, 182kW and the car ways like 1580kg :|

Edit:

My gosh my spelling was bad, weigh** buy**

hey ruffels, nice car for a 17 yo! **** i wish i had a 33 when i was 17, i had to wait 4 long years till i was 21 untill i got my baby! u sound like u got ur head screwed on so look after your baby! be carefull on the streets dude, the car takes over ya!! and yeah ditch the badge looks really try hard!!! u get respect for the car for what it is , good luck dude and welcome to the skyline owners club

People whinging about the IT industyry going flat was a load of bull, just had to know where to look or know someone :) i reckon it's just dodgy I could be doing the same thing for almost double the money in NSW or QLD but then I like where I work, my job is easy and entertaining (most would agree a hard combo to come by).

I like IT, put me in three good cars in my short driving history

I have been booze bussed in Hallam a couple of times and often go on down to Knox etc but my skyline looks very low key and hardly gets a second look. This will only change after the P comes off. :flamed:

ohk guys, i can see this is getting quite heated,

the matter of fact is that sure everyone has done stupid things, and im sure people will continue to do stupid things, coz we all know internet threads doesnt change a thing lol.

but for the time being im going to keep my car , and im going to go forward onto my p's with a safe, positive perspective on driving.

i think thats about all i can do for now, and allthough alot of you think its wrong, and that i shouldnt have my car, i'm going to enjoy it, enjoy driving it and even washing it every week end that i do

coz its my pride and joy and i really don't want to sell it.

so thanks for everyone who has posted, i hope no one was affended, especially you starionturbo, if you though i was flaming you or having a go at you

and i hope t see you all out and about, and posibly at some cruises and meets in the future

Also just like to congradulate Foznice (rylan) for his new purchase of an R32 gts-t, he is 17 also and is a good mate of mine :)

keep the car and drive it just be sensible about it and do a driving course.

how many meters would you need to stop your car in the wet at 60km/h?

do yourself a favour and do a course and you'll find out how hard it is

    • Don't even try to run it on the stock ECU if you're going to have the boost controller bring boost above ~10 psi. I've already told you that. If you use the Nistune ECU, you will need to CAREFULLY read the available documentation for Neo tuning, and read some threads on the Nistune forums, to discover the various things you have to do to prevent the ECU from going bananas when the boost is too high. The is a table associated with th boost sensor that must be modified to prevent it from shitting the bed. This is just one of the things that you will need to do to the tune in Nistune, because the Neo turbo ECU will be expecting to see a number of things (such as the TCS) that are not there, and you have to block the DTCs on those. It is totally not surprising to me that you are having the problems that you are, but the solutions to these problems have been known for >15 years. So just get it done.
    • Hi. Sry iam not a mechanic and iam not at the car atm so i dont know 100% but they told they measure those and even try to change those. AFM they have two. Coils are new a they have my old one too. Plugs too. ECU...we have 25 NEO stock and Nistune 25 NEO.   But i dont know if any one those could be the problem and why/if/what can cause this, Only thing they did not check is fuel...but that walbro 255 is new(like 1,5 years)... That fuel pressure gauge idk...but i let them know Any suggestions?   EDIT: how can they know if it is like you say he ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high? Tha car has boost controler
    • Can you clarify what you mean by boost cut, do you mean it misfires both when under load (driving) and when stationary and out of gear? Or does the ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high (boost control issue)? Does it occur at idle with no throttle? When you say "the ECU is OK", what ECU is it and why do you think it is OK? Have you used the NEO ECU, and if so do you have a MAP sensor attached? Same for the AFM, why do you think it is OK? Do you have any way to put a fuel pressure gauge on it (even just a mechanical one between the fuel filter and fuel rail)?
    • Hi.. Just another problem. So maybe you can help. I(my mechanic) done swap from my RB20DE NEO to RB25DET NEO. Everything is OK but we have a boost cut. Coils/Plugs are ok...AFM is ok. ECU is ok. I have Walbro 255 but it "changed" sound few months ago(you can hear it ouside) you did not hear that when it was new(maybe faulty?) Sooo...what now? What can cause this boost cut? It is even when you standing still...
