Just thought I would post this for those looking for decent deal on insurance...seems to be a common thing. I'm rating 1, 26, blah blah which i know many don't have the luxury of being but it might help. So more information always helps somebody else out there.

RACV - well people haved talked about this before. RACV will ensure a GTS-T (or even GT-R) as long as you're 25 or over, and have a pretty flawless driving history. I've been with RACV insurance since I started driving so that helped I think. I didn't ask specific questions, but they would insure it, assuming minimum mods. They were marginally cheaper than justcars, again maybe because of above. If I think you're under 25 they will just flatly say no. Maybe because of the pressure of the below coming into the market they're more willing to insure an import these days. Who knows.

Justcars - around $2000 for a modded R33 gts-t. Standard non modded gts-t was around $1400

Unique Car insurance... www.uniquecar.com.au These guys definitely offered the best deal at around $1400 for a modded gts-t .. and it drops to $1000 or something after the first year. They're Victorian and I know have been around for a few years, so they seem fairly trustworthy. They're underwritten by Lloyds (big London underwriters). Definitely worth a try, and they seemed to be fairly knowledgeable about things (mentioned body kit excess, when was the alarm fitted, blah, blah). In a way seems almost too cheap.

Famous car insurance... www.famousinsurance.com.au yeah, thought of them and by the looks of things some people have had some luck...they're in WA so I'm not sure as to how that would work out. Nobody had any conclusive evidence of claiming through them, esp. in VIC so i kinda didn't bother with them.

Hope this helps all of those looking for a reasonable deal in VIC!

Nope that is incorrect. That's only if they decide to put that on your policy. I spoke to Robin about that specific condition and she said they haven't used that for ages, and it's only if that is placed on your policy (so you would know about it!).

RACV will insure under 25's with Turbo's. Bloody expensive, around 5.9K i think, well that was for a 19 yr old. BUT! You can go under ur parents name, and then add urself as a nominated driver....now i know what y'all thinking, u don't get a rating, if u have a smash, it all goes to shit. Nuh-uh. If u decide to get insurance in ur name, ur history as a nominated driver IS counted, and if u have a smash it's just the same as if ur parent has a smash in it. And no, they don't care what % u drive the car, doing it this way knocked off about $2.5K from the original 5.9, so insurance for a 19yr old with RACV as a nominated driver under a parent is $3.5K a year. Which is about the best u can do around my age. But i think i'll go with Prosperion, insurance $1.5K yeee-haa!!

www.prosperion.com.au -

but it's not just insurance. They package the entire running costs of the car eg. fuel/tyres/rego/insurance/servicing. Budget what u think u are going to use for a yr and then u pay a certain amount each month. But the monthly charge comes out of ur pay pre-tax, so u have to get ur employer to ok the whole thing. Which also means u gotta be on a pretty good job as well.

Regarding insurance, they insure on the car...not the age of the driver. So that's why it works out to be around 1.5K for me, i'll most prob be 19 when i start this whole thing.

It's a lot more complicated then straight forward insurance, but there are some decent savings to be made.

The only catch is that u have to install NavTrac 1600 to install incl first year coverage i'm pretty sure, and then 300 a year to monitor ur car after that. NacTrac said they've never had a car stolen, so it sounds pretty good. 3pt immobiliser. But more insurance companies these days for ppl our age, and with the cars we want, say we have to have a good immobiliser anyway.

If u do give em a call, call this number: (02) 9004 7290, that's 'Chris' and just say "Daniel Chin" referred u.

the other 1300 is just a general one, this is a direct consultant number. He's the coolest guy as well, he has a S15 i think he said, and all the other guys are car nuts, another has a R33 GTS-T, so they know what we're talkin about.

Oh...and unlimited mods as long as it's Street Legal, doesn't affect insurance.

cheers,

Daniel.

Guest too quick

thanks, I think I just reduced the amount of insurance that i'm up for!

Well I just took out a policy with Famous today. They beat Just Cars by like $450 and Robyn there was very friendly as well.

Hopefully I won't be able to tell you what they're like for claims, if you know what I mean!

From seeing what i see on here...and finding out for myself... Justcars is a ripoff. They will insure anything at any age, but they will also charge you anything for the privilege. They are afterall just an offshoot of AAMI which always had the highest premiums just for a "general" car for me.

My personal recommendation is to try some of the smaller ones mentioned here which are more specialised underwriters. Most will give you agreed choice of repairers and things too.

Oh yeah, if you're going for the smaller guys, no crashing because then my premium will go up and i won't be happy :(

If you want to crash I'm sure Justcars has a great deal for you :P

    • Robertson was a Canadian inventor, and it absolutely reigns supreme here. 95% of our screws are Roberston. It's literally the only option you can buy off store shelves. What would it have lost out too? I believe it's also very popular in the US.  My reference to imperial was pointed to both NPT and BSP.
    • No. BSP lost to the cultural/technical imperialism of living next to Trumpistan. Face it, Robertson screws were better and still pretty much lost out to the yank stuff. The Europeans hate the Brits and they don't use NPT. NPT is just as "imperial" as BSP is, being based on those useless inch thingos. Just done differently.
    • I live in Quebec. Our license plate slogan is "Je me souviens" Translated is "We will remember" as a reminder to when England conquered us and that we must never forget what they did. Long story short, BSP is unheard of here due to being an English design. I'm surprised our nazi anti english government office the OQLF hasn't kicked in my door yet just talking about it, yet alone imperial anything.
    • Thanks for that! I did a quick Google search looked up some of hydaulic stores and didn't see it listed on the website, I'll give them a ring. Also found out later that I can buy 2 oem bleeder bolts for 10 bux and come with the washer which I might do so I don't waste the money it costs in petrol to find 2 washers (already did that lol). The old copper washes look in good nick, I drove it after taking it off and putting it back on and didn't see any  Part number here for reference if anyone needs: 14053-42L0A
