My bro was telling me that a few people he has spoken to have connected their fuel pump so that it runs full pressure constantly.

Apparently one guy also used a switch so that when he wanted to drag he flicked the switch which put the fuel pump in "high pressure" mode or something and this gave him a better run.

How does this work?

Is it bad for the pump / car?

These were with Bosch pumps I think.

Cheers :P

JiMiH,

Don't want to be rude to your brothers mates, but that sounds pretty stupid. If you want higher fuel pressure then connect a rising rate fuel regulator. Fuel pump are a positive displacement pump, therefore they should delivery the same flow rate whether at idle or full boost, at idle the fuel just goes back into the tank.

The fuel pressure regulator, about $200, will cause the pressure at the fuel rail to be higher, and adjustable, so that you will not experience any fuel pressure drop if you suddenly jump on boost. I would think this is a more sensible approach than stuffing with an expensive fuel pump.
