Hey guys,

Yesterday my car wouldn't turn over, my first suspect was a flat battery, so we tryed to jump it... comming to conclusions that the leads were had it, we roll started my car, and off she went.

Once i get home, i charge the battery, and it still doesnt turn over (makes a 'tick' noise and nothing more.

I then began to take the starter motor out, and after not be able to find one today, i decide that i'll have a crack at it, pull it apart, was a bit stiff so i sprayed some wd40 in it loosened it up, then took it to my mechanic who then tested it. According to my mechanic, the starter motor is fine, and it should start the car, he told me to check my electricals.. After this, i put the starter motor back in, and turned it over, still the same result as before!

Im now really confused as to what to do next? I got the volt metre out and put it on the power to the starter motor, and it showed 11.0 volts when the car was on ignition, but then when i turn the key it goes down to 0.0 volts straight away.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what to check?? Please help, im really stumped and need my car back asap.

Thanks so much in advance.

Dayne

I have tried a jump pack with a battery inside it thats good to start semi-trailors..

i have tried my parents ss commodore to jump it with new leads, i have tried a civic vti-r, i've tried a ford ute.. so thats 3 different cars.. and the battery is brand new ( 2 weeks old) and reads a voltage of 13.5 (has been on the charger for over 24hours now) so it is definetly not the battery..

Is the key actually turning the whole way round, or does it turn most of the way then, resist? It could be the actual ignition switch. My car wouldn't start normally, only when pushed. Opened the case underneath the steering wheel, ignition barrel and switch, found that it was cracked. Replaced the ignition switch (easy, just a screw and a few plugs) and solved the problem.

Check the voltage at the battery when cranking. If the voltage drops to zero then you have a problem with the ignition. Check under the dash for any melted wires behind the ignition barrel. If the battery is brand new then remove it and try to start one of the above mentioned cars with it. This will rule out the battery. I have seen brand new batteries shit themselves. Have you tried doing a half turn on the ignition?

If not, put the key into the ON position, then slowly turn the key towards START. Don't turn it all the way, just very slowly to see if maybe the barrel is passing the circuit. It is also possible that you starter motor is drawing too much current but I doubt it will drop all the way to 0.0 straight away.

Alright,

My dad helped me look at it, after cleaning the starter motor up, it seemed to be working fine.

Charged the battery, then it still didnt start.

We re-attached the terminals and re cleaned them then jumped it off my parents 5.7L SS with heavy duty leads with the ecu protector, started first go after turning it and leaving it there for a bit..

Now the car sits at 14volts the whole time!:(

Thanks so much guys.

    • Haha, i kow right? Could have bought so many cars for the same amount of money (or less) but driving Unicorn gives you at least +1mln to style 😅. Like wise man said "life's to short to drink cheap wine and drive boring cars" 😉
    • Newbie here, proud owner of an Autech 260RS. I'm on the hunt for wiring diagrams specific to the 260RS, particularly S1. I've ran my eyes through R33, R34 Diagrams, there are some similarities, however continue to find incorrect wire colours and pins on connectors in the 33,34 diagrams.   I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction? I'd be happy to pay for the originals in Japanese. I can translate them, at least they would be accurate.   Any help please would be greatly appreciated, never heard an RB26DETT before let alone driven one, and I've got a spaghetti monster of goodness to sort out.   Cheers Benny
    • Hey all  im wondering if you can help me please I have put a rb20 box in my r34 gtt as my auto packed up and a friend had a spare box I know it’s not ideal but it will get me up and running for now. we have done the conversation and everything is working great but my Speedo we got a s13 speed sensor but my Speedo reads double now and I bought a speed converter but still not having any luck.  so I thought I’ll reach out and pick your brains  any help would be appreciated please as I wanna drive my car again
    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
