  1. Hey, I'm reading through the importing document on DOTAR, and I'm confused by this particular sentence. I don't know whether it's referring to Vistors coming into Aus with no form of PR, citizenship or Australians with citizenship visiting another country with a temporary visa. I'll be heading off to Japan to study abroad for a whole year and want to bring a Supra back with me. I've bolded the section in question. 5.5. Personal Imports – Part 10 on Application Form The following are not eligible to import a vehicle under the personal import scheme. visitors temporary residents foreign diplomatic personnel companies corporations To be eligible for a personal import the following criteria must be satisfied: a. the vehicle has been owned and used by the applicant for a continuous period of at least 12 months (3 months where ownership and use of the vehicle commenced before 8 May 2000); b. at the time the vehicle is imported, the applicant is: i. an Australian citizen or an Australian permanent resident; or ii. a person who has applied to become an Australian citizen or an Australian permanent resident; c. the applicant is of an age that entitles him or her to hold a licence or a permit to drive a road vehicle of that type; d. the applicant undertakes to comply with any requirements as to road safety that are imposed in respect of the vehicle by the Administrator; and e. the applicant has not imported a road vehicle owned by him/her within the year ending on the day on which the vehicle in respect of which the application is made is landed in Australia. If an applicant has imported a vehicle under any other provisions in that time, approval will not be granted.
  2. General question regarding coolant top up. Is it better to top up the coolant with bottled spring water, distilled water or tap water ?(minor top up requiring less than 200ml of water) I usually get my car serviced every 3months, so i don't top it up with coolant, i let the service guys mix the green stuff. Is what i'm doing unsafe ?
  3. Hey guys, i was wondering if any1 could help me out and give me some advice. I've recently taken time off work to travel to Melbourne for a month. I'm originally from Sydney and took my parent's 2003 Commo with me to Melbourne. Ok, rego arrived last week and my parents phoned me up saying the car requires an inspection(pinkslip) to renew the rego. Problem is, i won't be bak for another month and the rego expires in 2weeks. Do i get a pinkslip in Melbourne ? or do i need to drive bak and get the inspection done ?(i seriously cannot drive bak as this would overlap my planned schedules). i had a look on the RTA website and it says a vehicle is exempt from inspection if the vehicle is "WITHIN" 3yrs of the compliance date and month. if this is correct, shouldn't my inspection be next yr as i'm still "within" the 3yrs period ? 2003-2006 = 3yrs help, please !
  4. lmao, they even measured the whopping 6 METRES skid mark
  5. So the guy merging onto the freeway has the right of the way ? coz when i was down in Melbourne afew weeks ago, i noticed cars changing lanes for me when i was merging in. In NSW its opposite, we have to give way.
  6. haha, can someone post a pic of the 50 or so cars waiting for some damn donuts... sounds sooo funny.
  7. someone spare a buck and transfer it over to him; lets see what he says
  8. any1 going to spain ? haha, insist on leaving a deposit in person using a "fake" relative living in spain, see if he responds.
  9. r33- mid 1993 to mid 1998 r34- August 1998 to mid 2001 Not many ppl brought R34s compared to R33s. Only clueless ppl would pay 21grand for a S2 33. the smart ones search and wait.
  10. it will never be mass marketed, theres simply not enough of them to do so. plus world demand for 2nd hand R34 is increasing as we speak.
  11. keep in mind, Skylines are predominantly brought by young lads with limited cash. expect the car to be around 20k mark in 3-4yrs time, which is not bad considering it's age.
  12. cheers this looks like the addresss http://miettas.com/Australia/Victoria/Toor...ent_Toorak.html
  13. ahh, so its 2 different shop but managed by the same owner eh ? for better parking, head for Laurent Toorak instead of Laurent Como, correct ? key feature to spot the coffee shop is toorak village eh ? (sorry im not a local, just visiting melbourne) thanks !
  14. is that near dicksmith and kfc ?(only ever been to knox once) whats the address ? also, is it just a casual coffee place ?
  15. any1 know of a good coffee shop in melbourne where u can enjoy the breeze and at the same time keep an eye out for ya car parked on the streets ?(preferrably infront of the coffee shop or nearby).
  16. my bro brought a R34 GTT with finance owing on it. this is what he did: -Done all the required checks etc(car, stolen, ownership) -Call up revs the day before and purchased a certificate(transaction of sale must be completed in 24hours) -Go to the bank(the financial institution where the original owner took out the loan) and pay off the remaining amount -Go to VicRoads, change details and pay Stamp duty(4% in Vic, 3% in NSW) -Pay the remaining balance to the owner(if applicable) -A week later, the original owner should recieve a letter stating theres no finance owing on the vehicle. get a photocopy of this. everything should be sweet
  17. for any old car, budget for the clutch, suspension(shocks etc), brakes(rotors, pads), trans reconditioning, minor engine rebuild(pistons, gaskets, hoses, plugs, belts) and paint work- if u're anal about the appearance. other than that, theres nothing really... buying an old car is like drawing chance outta a box, u either end up with a lemon or a stunner. anywayz, best of luck !!
  18. u know, i've had enough of bull-shat this bull-shat that. if u're gonna calculate insurance as a sort of investment then u shouldn't be driving an import. you buy insurance as a safety measure. who cares what it costs ??!! if u cannot afford insurance, dont complain and get something else. also, when you're figuring out an agreement value, dont be a top shit and expect "MOST" mods that u haven't spent money on to be covered. insurance companys are not brain dead thick heads. they roughly know how much a car is worth, they know half the mods on the car were installed prior to your ownership(by jap owner). if u effectively paid $15,000 for the lot, expect to insure it for 15grand, not a bizzare 30grand worth of mods+ 20grand car, totally 50grand. as for insurance, shannons is great.
  19. how about GTR with 6 speed ? 5 would be acceptable eh ?
