Unless you can get one in under RAWS/SEVS you are basically too late to import one.  The 15 year rule is gone.

A compression test is not a bad idea.

Don't take the head off it - you don't need to.

Stock turbos are cheap (a few hundred dollars each) so you are better to concentrate on the engine than the turbos.

Not sure why people with good experiences keep quiet about it - but there are plenty out there.

Also, be aware that has been in Oz for a reasonable length of time is likely to have had things fixed.  Buying a car like this means you don't have to fix everything yourself - stuff is already done.

Got my 32 GTR in, replaced a clutch after 12 months... bought new wheels for it ('cause i wanted to) and done...

havn't had a drama with it yet (touch wood)

So there's one good story for yas :)

my advice though, don't get a GTR if you're "on a budget" you have to maintain the things remember... servicing every 3 months is gonna add up ;)

I have also been looking for a GTR (probably a R33 - but not sure if they are better or not, lots of people seem to like the R32 very much) but I have had to put off until I get back from overseas in a few months.

Basically this thread makes me really wonder about the running costs of such a car... To me it seems I need to find a "nice" one and keep my Silvia as an everyday car. Back to saving...

Cheers

Adrian

I know when I was looking around for my current GTST alot of people said "don't buy it if your on a budget" But apart from normal running costs and a $450 Clutch that I fitted myself, it drives like a new one. I haven't overboosted the stock turbo or given it any reason to blow up, and it has not cost me any more in maintinence then any other car I have owned. I would like to get a R33 GTR to be my weekend play car, and get rid of the GTST. But Ill just have to wait and see.

Cheers

    • I know people cry at the price of the Getrag 12-14k for a conversion now, but it really is a nice mid point. Not going to get change from 10k on a gearset installed.  $30k++ for sequential.   I know you run the risk of a damaged used one and parts are hard to get but as a street car gearbox its really hard to beat. If you enjoy a more traditional manual, its the choice no question.
