My car stinks of petrol! Its so bad its giving me headaches... The first time i filled the tank all the way petrol gushed out from around the top of the tank and spilled behind the car so since then i have only filled it half way.

I tried pulling out the filler neck where there was marks of leaking but the seal seemed perfectly new and the bolts firmly held it in place, there certainly wasnt enough space to be causing such a bad smell and gushing fuel.

I'm guessing Ill have to drop the tank and look for leaks elsewhere... has anyone hada problem like this?

yeah man my 33 gets fuel fumes through the air con vents 2 wen ur cruzin along...dont know what it is tho. i checked all fuel lines, they r tight so i dont know wats up either...

Gee. That's a big statement.

Mine had the standard troubles with the filler neck not holding pressure, due to a slack conversion for compliance.

Once I fixed it with Sikaflex there has been no odour at all since.

If you can see vapour on a warm day in your drivers mirror it could be the same problem.

ive got a 89 r32 and when i bought it the fuel tank had a big dent in it so i got the guy to replace it and now it leaks wen i fill it right up. any info on how to fix it would be great as it is rather annoying that i cant put a full tank in it and embarrassing when at the station and fuel is pissing out of my car

Sorry to bring this up again. But i'm travelling long distance for like 6hrs drive in the next couple of days and just like to fix this problem. So how do u go about fixing this filler neck with sikaflex, step by step info would be great.

It was a fair while ago now but here goes,

1. Have a look at your petrol cap and give it a wriggle and see if it moves around. If it does then,

2. Unscrew the cap and grab the metal filler neck, probably brass colour, see if this moves around. If so (like mine) you definately proceed to step 3. Otrhewise, if you can see evidence of vapour or spillga aroung it you can also say it needs doing. (A visual inspection should tell you if it is the problem.

3. Remove the filler neck assembly. Mine took no effort at all as it was held by a couple of dabs of a compound that went hard and, therefore, brittle.

4. Once removed, clean the surfaces of the neck that mate with the wide mouth that is left in the side of the car and clean this area too.

5. Apply a continuous bead of Sikaflex around the area of contact.

6. Position the filler neck in its final position and push it home.

I only took one or two pics and they were after the fact but will try to find them and post soon.

Just thought I'd suggest something else. Mine had the same problem and it was just the seal in the boot....I don't know the names of things, but anyways...

Remove carpet in boot

See the tank access panel? Remove the cover,

then remove the actual 'lid' to the tank. You will need to take the fuel lines off to do this...the above thread someone linked to tells you about it.http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...ead.php?t=75374

It will have the fuel pump attached to it. Pull that out (it will drop fuel everywhere, so have a container ready to sit the pump etc in (it's about 1 foot long)

You will see a rubber seal (o-ring) that seals between the tank and the 'lid'. Take that to a bearing shop (I had to go to about 3 before I found one that stocked one) and get a new one ($10 tops..I payed $5, but it was listed as $2, but their minumum sale point was $5...) *MAKES SURE YOU TELL THEM IT IS A FUEL SEAL, SO IT NEEDS TO BE FUEL SAFE*

Nissan also have them, but they wanted $30.

Apart from the driving around to get the seal, its a 20 minute job. For $5-10 I'd replace the seal to make sure it isn't that.

hey thanx alot that fixed the problem and no more petrol smell, plus i now get the schweppes pssshh sound when opening the cap! :uh-huh: :)

    • ok so if i wanted to go 18's i would go for 8's  in front 30+ or 32+ off set at front and the back 9 would be ok? what offset should i aim for.. then can i do some  hunting for wheel rim choices..    If i get this - will this fit all around: Size: 18 x 8.5 +37 - n what tyres size tyre should i get for front n back?  
    • Absolute f*cking nightmare. I had to take breaks constantly, and I was always pissed off when I got home. The line split in Italy on day 2 (we drove from the Netherlands), lol. Driving any narrow European town was... well, sh*t.   Appreciate it man. Here, I'll just drop a favourite from the load I took on Saturday.   I'll update here when things happen with the car, the thing is, with stock power and almost everything chassis-wise taken care of, there really are no problems. 268,000kms now and counting.  
    • Ah! I actually managed to snag a lightly used set.... that aren't so suitable for me right now. They don't work on a GTT without some cutting or creative heat moulding. I thought about reselling them myself cause I didn't want to murder them, but it looks like I'm probably going to attempt to murder them/melt them because I may as well. @GTSBoy @PranK can somebody close this thread?
    • Hey mate,  I have a set, one is slightly damaged but wont be noticable once installed.  Shoot me a message if your still after them 
    • I couldn't wait But, the black constant tension hose clamps were too thick and there wasn't enough clearance at the T/B and I couldn't get it to seat properly, so I had use a silver one there I also added some 3" silicone over the alloy bit that goes through to hole on the radiator support as it looked like it was sitting on the edge of the hole in the radiator support, I never noticed a rattle or anything, but there was a witness mark It is basicly done, and I can live with the silver hose clamp at the T/B, I will get a black clamp for the head vent though where it is attached to the bulkhead fitting  It never stops...LOL, only issue now with the shock tower brace is it slightly touches the under bonnet liner now, if I leave it it will either wear some paint off the brace where it touches, or damage the liner, so I removed the liner to see what I have to work with, with the liner removed I have about 20mm of clearance, but sadly the middle part of the underside of the bonnet is only dusted with paint and looks crap, so I cannot have that, but.... as I have a roll of Carbuilders premium under bonnet insulation in the garage laying around that is only 5.5mm thick (we were going to use it on the boys Patrol, but he crashed the front of it a few months and it was written off, hence why he now drives my old Honda Accord Euro), I'll use the OEM liner as a template and get the Carbuilders stuff fitted up to cover that dusted paint up
