Well not actually the engine itself.

Last night I went to adjust the boost a little on my little boost controller (the one mark sells on here) and split the hose.

Thought no worries. Replaced the hose but when I took the car for a drive it made a weird "whurling" type noise with any ammount of boost pressure. To me sorta sounds like a air leak but not sure< is that what noise it would make if a cooler hose blew off?

Even with the hose removed it still makes the same noise.

I thought I might have tore a little hole in one of the pipes from the afm to the turbos but they all seem ok, removed the clamps etc and checked under there.

Anyone know what it could be?

argghhh. hope its not one of the gaskets.

car still runs fine, it will make boost but seems to be down a little bit on power. the noise also seems to go away after around 3000rpm, sort of when the turbos really start spooling.

most likely one of the turbo gaskets? would it be a head gasket? what are the symptoms of that?

it sounds like a ghost comin from my engine bay. can really only hear it from 2000-3000 revs under load, even coming off load from about 5000revs you cant hear it again till it comes down to 3000 or so again.

Im guessing its one of the turbo gaskets? maybe to the manifold. Surly someone knows what it is. Car still drives fine and comes on boost fine.

Ive had something very similar in my R32, ended up being a gasket just off the turbo..

Its quite common for the bolts on the "Twin Turbo" pipe to work loose, particularly for the rear turbo, and the gasket to blow. Unfortunately they are not a standard gasket so you have to get them from Nissan AFAIK (or as I did, make them).

I currently have a high-pitched leak somewhere (plus backfiring) and I am pretty sure its the same gasket. :(

thanks champs, ill swap them next week and see how it goes. I hope its just one of them so the turbos dont have to come out.

Can I buy just those 4 gaskets or do I have to buy the whole set from nissan?

also will the leak cause any damage or is it still ok to go boosting it a little for normal driving?

Its three gaskets, and Nissan doesn't do turbo gasket sets anymore, so you just order in the three.

Before you do though, better to check that's what is actually causing the problem. The recommendation I have seen lately is to mix up some detergent with water and put it in a spray bottle. Spray all the possible connections, fiddle with the throttle to rev it a bit, and look for the bubbles.

Hard to say if it will cause any damage without knowing exactly what/where it is. At a guess, probably not, but it will throw the mixtures out as air is escaping.

LW.

    • Hi from Canada, Both of my calipers are starting to fail. My car is a 2005 M35 Stagea ARX and I can't seem to find any parts or any cross reference caliper that would fit my car. Is there a company or a similar caliper that would fit and I could replace the OEM one. Or if anyone knows where I can find a new OEM. Any help is very appreciated. Let me know!
    • Maf is a question mark but TPS  I have set at 0.47, the fact that I’m getting proper voltage range out of it with the key on leads me to believe it’s functioning properly. I’m getting proper voltages on basically everything. I still need to look up voltage ranges for z32 maf and test that
    • Honestly no not at all, but it’s a very basic tune, it’s stock injectors q45 tps and z32 maf. Other than that it’s a completely stock base map. The file is from nistune and from my understanding if it was tune related I would be able to unplug maf and tps and it would still start even if it was a really shitty start. I have tried starting it with coolant temp, maf, and tps unplugged none of those 3 togethor or individually changes anything

    • What does it look like with highway driving? And yes, I had a similar thought as Duncan. It looks quite similar in my Stagea and I have made myself accept it as normal. Might have to look into it some day   Highway gets as low as 10l/100km on my end so I'm not as worried about it being a mechanical issue. More likely just the tune on the haltech.
