moanie, i got done by an arsehole of a cop, in singleton, by the name of Smith, he has a bad name around the hunter valley, nobody likes him, has been alot off petitions to get him off the force as he is just cruel.

he let me off with the box in place. ive never heard of it having to be in a plastic box, alot of cars have metal airboxs. they went to plastic for the cost + weight.

thanks for the compliments guys, sorry Mark, but she looks similar to alot of other 33s around, so shes going to get changed from classy to drift spec... i love it how it is but i want to stand out.

doodz, the airbox is piss easy to install. im sorry but the allen head bolts are staying, they look neater, im not putting thumb screws on there, just carry the correct allen key in your car. hell, ill give you one if you want me to.

cheers

Linton

hmmm... you sure?  maybe it was the luck of the draw?  as in a semi nice cop?  i've just been done for my pod twice, and both times i was told it HAD to be a plastic box :D  just don't want to risk it a 3rd time, unless i'm sure i won't get done!

You can never be 100% sure because the written law can be interpretted in whatever way the indiviual likes. To a certain extent of course.

But in all honesty, from everything I've read and heard, living in Sydney you're going to be way more likely to get pulled over, and the police there seem to defect you guys for everything.

In other areas, you will usually not get pulled over unless you flaunt the laws time and again.

I'll see what documents I can find online though and see if we can get a proper reading of the rules.

Will that put your mind at ease Moanie?

that'd be great monkeyk!! :O

NZM - I love the box!! it looks sooo neat!! i *tried* to make one myself, but i was going to use fibreglass and i didn't know how to cut it!!! i ended up putting the stock plastic box back on... when i went back to the epa to clear my defects i asked the guy about it.. he said that nothing but plastic would do :P it sux :) i want i sexy box like that for my filter!!! :( and yeah.. guess i'm just scared of getting done a third time.. it won't be pleasant! and it'll be too $$ for me to fix :( but dammit! i want that box! lol!

Nice job on the box mate!

hehe, they look similar to the one I run at the moment, but your offering them at a good price.

I currently run a similar set up to linton, and I also run thermal insulation in the lining of the box, to prevent heat soak...

I also run CAI running from the corner of my 400r front bar, and only get a tiny bit warm... not even noticeable to be honest ;)

yeh, im looking at different types of insulation, but these will be a "Deluxe" box that will cost extra.

ill do a temp. test when i can find a thermoprobe long enough to reach to the airbox, mine reaches to the turbo at the moment.

i thought it would be slightly easier too moanie, but anyway, now that ive got the first one made, i can go see where it could be improved more and go from there.

cheers

Linton

lwells, dont get quite what you mean.. you mean a full bolt in replacment airbox?? as in the ARC type. then no.

it is an enclosed box/shield for your pod filter, so you dont get defected for it. and also a bit of bling in the engine bay.

cheers

Linton

I don't quite know how else to phrase it: is the pod fully enclosed in the box (with an entry for the air duct and the pod/afm), that is, does it have four sides, a top and a bottom, or is it just a shield that sits over the top and down a couple of sides?

Lucien.

yeh, there is one for the stock piping....just has an extra hole and requires a little more work to install.

hopefully have them done when the bender turns up... i have been cutting them out though, ready for bending, if it doesnt come soon, ill make some up using the old way, it still works fine, just takes a little more time.

cheers

Linton

    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
    • Well they got my money but they are not getting my gearbox !
    • It's needed for rolling idle up, and I think it is a decider on VCT also.
    • I mean, not really. Link ECU's can absolutely still have errors from the ECU thinking it's getting a sensor it's not expecting. I would imagine the speed at the ECU level in Nistune does absolutely nothing anyway? I assume the ECU does not do any fancy TC stuff with regards to front+rear wheel speed or anything of that like anyway. Someone who uses Nistune may be more fluent in it.
