Sly33,

Grepin has had problems trying to push more than ~16psi in the top end through his 2835ProS as it tails off. :)

yeah he's told me, possibly because of the cams. So far i havent tried anything more than 17psi, which it holds right to redline. Even if it drops off once the cams go in, you can still run more boost through the rest of the range and get more power/torque.

At the end of the day though the 2835ProS is an awesome little piece of kit!

19psi!? i dont think so! the 266rwkw is made at just 16.5psi.  I want to wind it up to about 18 maybe 19 once the cams go in.

That sexy dump is none other than a genuine HKS one!

Sorry 'bout that - my mistake!

From what I remember he's always had the 2835ProS dropping boost even with the stock sticks. He slapped the big sticks in still drops boost the same but obviously more air is flowing.

I remember he said the wastegate is being blown open as if you hold it shut manually it will make the boost and power repectively.

Maybe its a dump pipe design issue with his, I can't remember what dump he was running.

I see in the catalogue that if you buy the turbo by itself it comes with the option of 0.68 or 0.87 A/R housings.

http://www.nengun.com/catalogue/product/554

I've contacted both companies and they say that it can only come in kit form with the 0.68 A/R housing.

Maybe that's his problem - maybe he's got the turbo with the smaller housing?

I'm not sure what to do now - I don't want to buy a kit with the smaller housing if it won't perform...

Im sure you can fit the GT30R. Doesnt this bolt up? If not, you would only need the place a spacer bt the manifold flange and the turbo to offset the turbo from the manifold. I got my turbo for less than 2k, and it isnt a laggy turbo for the RB25. Think of what you want because the little drivability gain you will gain from the turbo you are looking at maynot be worth it when you can save money with the GT30, still have a responsive package for your aim assumming an aim of 250-300rwkW. I have the GT30 on my 2L, it hits full boost at 4krpm. I know of someone with the same turbo on his RB25 and he makes full boost at 3.5krpm.

i have lots of ppl asking me "What A/R did you get?"

***Edit*** now im confused myself.. i thought i had the same turbo as grepin with the 0.8x A/R but it seems greenline where i got it from only sell a 0.68 A/R version. The USA HKS site also lists TWO int gate versions, and i was under the impression that only one size A/R was available in internal gate, and that it was 0.8x A/R.

..So if you get the comprehensive kit that i got from greenline, just order it and it will all be sweet, there is nothing to choose :(

Also getting lots of PMs about what comes in the greenline kit. EVERYTHING comes in the kit. (F-con mini is no longer part of the kit -you dont want it anyway.)

cheers.

Red Drifter,

The RB20DET will always struggle to make the power you want on less than 18psi. The valves and ports are too small, drop a set of lumpy sticks in to it and you will then have half a chance, stock.. I seriously do not think it can be done. :)

also...

HKS only offer two size exhaust a/r's.

.68 and .87

Possibly their a/r's are 'slightly' larger than the garrett units due to a power porting or similiar method of increasing flow/efficiency.

    • You just need to remove the compressor housing, not the entire turbo. I would not be drilling and tapping anything with the housing still on anyways.
    • So, I put my boat on a boat. First of all, I'm going to come out and say it. Why is Tasmania not considered a holy goal, an apex that all road-legal modified cars go to, to experience? This place is an absolute wonderland of titanic proportions. If people are already getting club runs for once in a lifetime 30 person cruises to Tassy then I've never seemed to see it. It is like someone replaced the entire place with an idyllic wonderland for cars, and all of the people living there with paid actors who are kind, humble, and friendly. Dear god. After doing a lap of almost all of the place I've found that it's a great way to find out all of the little things that the car isn't doing quite right and a great way to figure it all out. All in all, I drove for 4 hours a day for a week and nothing broke. I didn't even need to open the engine bay. This is by all means a great success, but it has left me with a list of things to potentially address. I also now have a 3D printed wheel fitment tool which annoyingly hasn't got any threads in it to actually assemble it. I might be able to tape it together to check the sizing I actually want to use, but it'll likely involving pulling the shocks out to properly measure travel at least at the front, and probably raise the car while I'm at it, at least in the rear. I scraped on quite a few things and I'm not sure how else to go about it. I was taking anything with a bump at what felt like 89 degree angles. And address those 10 other tasks. And wash the car. God damn it is dirty. And somehow, the weather was perfect the entire time - And because I was on the top of Mt Wellington it turns out it was very much about to freeze up there. I did something I typically never do and took some photos up there in what must have been -10 and the foggy felt like suspended ice, rather than mere fog. If you own a car in Australia, you owe it to yourself to do it.
    • Damn that was hilarious, and a bit embarrassing for skylines in general 😂 vintage car life ey. That R33 really stomped. Pretty entertaining stuff
    • Hi, I have a r32 gtr transmission. Does any of you guys have an idea how much power it will hold with the billet center plate and stock gearset? At what power level and use did yours brake with or without billet plate? Thanks, Oystein Lovik
    • Saw this replica police car based on a Mitsubishi Starion XX parked next to a 'police box' (it's literally a box) in Hirohata, Himeji City in Hyogo prefecture the other day. It's owned by Morii-san who is a local Mitsubishi Starion enthusiast. According to a local radio station blog post, he always wanted to make a police car himself based on ones he saw in his favourite Manga comics.  As it's illegal to modify a car to look like a police car and drive on the road, Morii-san tried many times to get permission from Aboshi police station headquarters nearby. They refused initially by after they got tired of that they granted him permission. However, the car can only be displayed on private property and obviously can't be registered as long as the police livery is present. The car was completed at a cost of 1.5 million yen (US$ 10,000) in addition to the car cost. A location was chosen outside Hirohata Police box where the car can easily been seen from the street. Morii-san has two other Starion road cars, both widebody GSR-VRs.
