I have recently purchased an R33 gtst 4 Door, and I am looking into installing an aftermarket ECU.

I have about $1500 to spend and my car setup in a few weeks will be;

3" exhaust from turbo back with "hi flow" cat

front mount intercooler

POD filter

appart from that it is stock and unfortunatly it is an auto

I am just after some models of different ECUs and approx what price including installation?

Thanks

Chris

you can always buy adjustible cam gear, but I was told it's not worth the $ spent on a RB25, as our inlet cam are controlled by computer and it's pretty good already. GTR is another story.

probably with auto most mods are just upped boost, exhaust and piggy back computer is sufficient if tuned properly. anything involving more hp than those basic mods will require rebuild auto gearbox and torque converter, and probably a shift kit device to make the auto box acts like a manual box (holding the gear) and changing gear needs to be done by moving the gear selector. this has been discussed many times in this forum, there's lots of thread about auto box.

Thanks heaps guys, I was gonna change it to a manual next year, but i might do that before I change the ECU.

Can I change the transmission to a manual easily?

Is the tailshaft the same length in a manual?

Thanks for the advice

Chris

You need manual gearbox, pedal box, gear selector, tail shaft, gearbox mount & cross members, and lots of time (or extra cash if you're paying someone else to do it).

You can get away with auto ECu for a while but won't be best, you'll need manual ECU, or better yet, get PowerFC since you have manual. You can keep your auto 4.3:1 diff but your converted car will use a bit more petrol and cruise at higher rev (4% higher) compared to factory manual. If you're keen, change your diff to 4.11:1 as well... check www.meggala.com got heaps of info there...
