ive been using the search feature, and well, i have found stuff on tyres, but most of it is what tyrs do you use for drags etc.

Basically i want to know what are good all round tyres, as in not the cheapest malaysian specials, but as most of us cant afford the ultimate in stree legal drag tyres etc.

for stock 16's for r32 and r33, what are the best performance for yoru dollar, as in around $600-$750 a set of 16's...

also what price did you get them for if you got a set...

yeh i will do that one day, but as my car is soon to be complied, i thought i may aswell just get decent tyres for compliance, rather then buy el cheapos for that, then buy some good second hand tyres.

are the Dunlop FM901's a bit too good for what u want?? I've heard heaps of goods things about those.

And some sort of Falken tyres i think...i've never really looked into it as i've only got a pulsar with like 2inch hubcaps, so tyres have never really been an issue :D

i could be wrong, but when i was in a tyre shop with a mate, the guy was telling me these are not made anymore, and the new top of the range the ss01 or whatever they are , were made to replace, and i think with my budget i could have 2 :S

thats what im really looking for. cost and also how you rate them..

its one thing havin a salesman telling you how good they are :D

There are many types of Potenza's ranging from hard compound throught to the very soft and sticky R rated tyres. The R rated tyres will only last 5-10,000 km's, so for daily driving aren't very practical if money is an issue.

There are many good tyres available from the top manufacturers. I use Toyo TPG's, have used Falken's and Grid II's. The Toyo's are the best, by far, but also cost the most, the Falkens are good, the Grid II's have a very hard compound so last ages but have a lack of grip.

Each tyre shop you go to will have there favourite top of the line tyre, where thay make a large markup on, so don't be too pursauded by there opinion.

I like the Toyo's as they give grip with moderate road wear, but for racing/drags then I'll be using the Potenza R's.

but thanks for the tips..

im liking the toyo's, but have to go aruond window shopping and asking for prices i guess, but with my car still in japan. it makes it hard.

It is difficult to put prices on tyres as I run 235/45/17's and 255/35/17's. My friend also owns a tyre store so I get it discounted from the retail price. It is definately worth going to a few places as the price difference can be quite alot.

Dont get 2nd hand.  If you can lose it under power in a non turbo auto, you should really invest in good tyres.  speak to LOTS of tyre shops.

215/50 R16's = good size if it has stock wheels.

yeh, im liking 901's but i will have to investegate into the price side of things a bit more..

to me tyre shops is about selling, not advice, hence i asked on here :D

i put that crash down to my stupidity on a wet and greasy road, not tyre choice or power or lack of power in the car.

Hey Sumo, be wary of the Nankangs. They are okay when new but once tread gets to about half way they go off really badly. I had some on a Celica and they were terrible, no grip at all once the new tread started wearing. Being FWD the understeer was shocking - dry or wet it didn't matter.

I have Simex on the R33 but too early to tell how they are although again whilst new they are great. Go with others suggestions on the forum if it isn't too late to change your mind. The Simex I got are 235/45/17 and were $200ea.

I agree with Red Sky II, the Nangkangs I had on the back of my Skyline turned to shit after 50% tread, they are cheap for a reason. It is worth the money to get something good, you'll have heaps more traction and much better in the wet.

    • You just need to remove the compressor housing, not the entire turbo. I would not be drilling and tapping anything with the housing still on anyways. 
    • So, I put my boat on a boat. First of all, I'm going to come out and say it. Why is Tasmania not considered a holy goal, an apex that all road-legal modified cars go to, to experience? This place is an absolute wonderland of titanic proportions. If people are already getting club runs for once in a lifetime 30 person cruises to Tassy then I've never seemed to see it. It is like someone replaced the entire place with an idyllic wonderland for cars, and all of the people living there with paid actors who are kind, humble, and friendly. Dear god. After doing a lap of almost all of the place I've found that it's a great way to find out all of the little things that the car isn't doing quite right and a great way to figure it all out. All in all, I drove for 4 hours a day for a week and nothing broke. I didn't even need to open the engine bay. This is by all means a great success, but it has left me with a list of things to potentially address. I also now have a 3D printed wheel fitment tool which annoyingly hasn't got any threads in it to actually assemble it. I might be able to tape it together to check the sizing I actually want to use, but it'll likely involving pulling the shocks out to properly measure travel at least at the front, and probably raise the car while I'm at it, at least in the rear. I scraped on quite a few things and I'm not sure how else to go about it. I was taking anything with a bump at what felt like 89 degree angles. And address those 10 other tasks. And wash the car. God damn it is dirty. And somehow, the weather was perfect the entire time - And because I was on the top of Mt Wellington it turns out it was very much about to freeze up there. I did something I typically never do and took some photos up there in what must have been -10 and the foggy felt like suspended ice, rather than mere fog. If you own a car in Australia, you owe it to yourself to do it.

    • Saw this replica police car based on a Mitsubishi Starion XX parked next to a 'police box' (it's literally a box) in Hirohata, Himeji City in Hyogo prefecture the other day. It's owned by Morii-san who is a local Mitsubishi Starion enthusiast. According to a local radio station blog post, he always wanted to make a police car himself based on ones he saw in his favourite Manga comics.  As it's illegal to modify a car to look like a police car and drive on the road, Morii-san tried many times to get permission from Aboshi police station headquarters nearby. They refused initially by after they got tired of that they granted him permission. However, the car can only be displayed on private property and obviously can't be registered as long as the police livery is present. The car was completed at a cost of 1.5 million yen (US$ 10,000) in addition to the car cost. A location was chosen outside Hirohata Police box where the car can easily been seen from the street. Morii-san has two other Starion road cars, both widebody GSR-VRs.
