ok i said id update when i had my crap sorted out so here goes. this doesnt have anything to do with ice performance really but if you read over the last page ish it will make sense why im putting it here

172rwkw

rb25, pfc, fmic, 0.85bar, stock pump, stock dump, 3" front, 3" hiflow cat, 3" exhaust

a/f was tuned good around 12ish and seemed to run really well, hardly any knock

clutch died some time after and began slipping from 3k to redline after pump change

180rwkw

rb25, pfc, fmic, 0.85bar, gtr33 pump, 3" split dump, 3" front, 3" hiflow cat, 3" exhaust and 1300kg heavy duty clutch.

after the clutch was done, power check before changing any settings (as in the 172rwkw tune) a/f was just under 10 before doing anything, so the pump pushed the a/f off the planet. this explains why i could smell octane at idle and normal operating cos it was so rich.

power check showed 150rwkw odd ish. go figure?? powerfc reset got to to 160rwkw ish but nice a/f curve just rich as. a/f lean out and some slight timing changes go to 180rwkw.

perfect a/f 12 and the thing hammers now. its 8rwkw difference but it feels so much more

zest and it hammers, havent ever seen it like this and the thing responds very well.

so all in all the dump change the way the car comes on power and top end but didnt appear to "show" on the dyno as easily as i thought it would have. either way the power is stacks better and comes on much better now, this was the first time i was able to run the new dump and 0.85 because since the dump my clutch has been fried.

i have a dyno printout the shows the base map and then the final tune so ill put a before and after so you can see, its basically a 30rwkw shift up across the entire rev range also my power doesnt appear to drop off anymore

what i also noticed i set my rsm to measure power output and on the freeway at 100km/h thew it into 4th gear and gave it some curry. max power measured was 311ps @ 5584 rpm. converted thats 231rwkw so go figure  geez did it fly in 4th gear on full song woooohoooooo

Paul - It's good to hear the car's running well, especially the new clutch... got used to it yet  there must be a slight difference in dyno's (who would have guessed?) as the 8 kw difference we got would hardly the significant gains your speaking of... Anyway, thanks for the Q45 diagram, and look forward to playing with the Pro software ... mmmmmm

did you tune it Sam at that dyno-mite shop we went to?

would explain the low readings :P

Spot on...

BTW: REAL TIME EMULATION FOR FACTORY ECU'S IS HERE AND WORKING! Map tracing and real time tuning from laptop to Nissan ecu.... mmmm

oops... sorry to hijack thread :P

Sam.

thought I may ad my details for interest sake...

tuned at ICE last week...

stock turbo

3.5inch zorst, stock dump

SAFC

EBC @ .7bar

FMIC

ARC airbox

Rebuilt bottom end with ARIAS forgies

256º cams

208rwkw

pretty darn flat curve too... the figure is probably a bit high but even if you take off 10rwkw to be conservative it is still making 200rwkw with stock turbo and ecu...

DYNO_03.jpg

yeah the clutch is all good, just a bit jerky cos im still getting used to it.

ive worded my friend up on the powerfc cable so should have it within a week or so

hopefully it works and it can be used, have a feeling it might just work, soon find out.

h nick thats some nice power, the differences we have are cams, dump pipe and tiny bit more boost. seems u didnt get issues from runing larger cams with a stock turbo and normal boost, i just remember seeing bass junkys before and after with tomei cams and he lost power. did you have a before n after on the cams? id love to see how each of ours feel cos cams would be a nice upgrade for the next step

no sorry don't really have a reliable before and after dyno on the cams... they definately made a difference tho, it really likes to rev in the top end now and i got pretty much the same peak power as before the rebuild, just now its at almost .1bar less boost... after I put the cooler on I'm still recording the same peak boost on my ebc just with almost 40rwkw more peak power...

I think a power fc and split dump pipe would give me a better midrange but there are other areas of the car that need work first... I think if your happy with the power and the way the car drives, don't be too concerned with the dyno figure...

Just as an example I recorded 178rwkw before the rebuild on dyno 'a' and then 166rwkw after the rebuild on dyno 'b' with cams and a front pipe added... then added a FMIC and got 208rwkw on dyno 'c'

btw love that series 2 front end... wish I had of know more about R33's when I bought mine

Nigel has been tuning my car since November. Here are the results.

S15

fmic,exhaust,pfc,ebc .............. ...... 180rwkw

Greddy T518Z,afm,dump,inj,pump....200rwkw

Tomei step 1 cams............................235rwkw

HPI exhaust manifold .......................242rwkw

I am replacing the 80mm exhaust with a 94mm next week.

Car has standard bottom end, done 179,000km and runs 20psi boost everyday.

Nigel was the fifth and last tuner to work on my car,I cant say enough about this guy.

are all these figures from the same ice dyno?

cos thats a pretty good increase of 35kw from the cams :uh-huh:

Same dyno,3 months later.I snapped a rocker and thought it would be a good time to upgrade the cams as well as fit a Tomei rocker stopper kit.

The following upgrade to a HPI exhaust manifold, whilst giving me 7kw at the top end, actually gave me 17kw at 4100rpm.Shows the difference paying $1200 for a Jap one with a bit of research behind it over a no-name one on ebay

good stuff, but recently i've been hearing a few stories of snapped rockers on s15's got me worried..

as for the manifold - good to see not everyone buys chinese copies and thinks that their just as good!

I had raised the rev limit to 7800rpm,back down to 7200rpm,and my car had done over 170,000km at the time, thats like 12 years driving in Japan, double power output, only failure, gotta love Nissan.

    • Hey y'all, I have a completely stock 1991 R32 GTR, yesterday I took my car out and went for about a thirty minute drive. It was fine on the way there but when returning home I think the car might have gone into a limp mode. I was cruising in 5th gear around 130km/h, the hicas light came on and there was a significant loss of power. About a minute later I hear a thump, the car starts driving normal again and is fine the rest of the drive back. This is the second time its happened, same as now it was fine on the trip there. On the way back it had the hicas light on but that time I would feel the power going in and out before hearing the same thump and it being fine.  I have no idea idea what causing this, but if anyone has any ideas it would be great as a start chasing the cause of this. Also I can provide more details if needed. Thank you
    • When sanding across a convex panel, you need to sand, as much as possible, at right angles to the curve. If the panel is compound convex curved (ie curved in both directions) then you are SOL and have to use "craftsmanship" to get it right.
    • Today in Skyline arts and crafts!! I’ve made some progress.    had to put extra notes in there so I don’t stuff it up 😂
    • This sounds like me. And then why I leave shit that I had previously hobbled together broken. Lately I've changed strategies to "If I don't want to justify the money on decent stuff, I'm not going to justify hobbling it together". I'm still for DIY, but DIY it properly is more my thing. However, I am terrible on not setting up backups still... Which reminds me, I need to go backup some of my work VM machines... Oh, it's also why I've become a lover of building things into Docker Containers... Then I just need a machine that can run docker, and bam, that specific system is up and running, on the specific versions of everything I need for it to run (In the event a change in required software version breaks something else). Also, these days, my steep learning curves are spent with work related stuff, and on very varied projects, that my want to do other random projects like build a dashboard for my own car has dwindled away to "I just want the car running", which is my current PITA, as I'm getting the Landcruiser usable again, and it has just been non-stop the past 6 to 8 weeks of buying parts, and working on it. Oh, and tools that are meant to be fit for purpose... And they break, because 25 year old 4WD decides it's stronger... But by the time I have it ready to roll back out the drive way, nearly all the stuff in it will have been touched and serviced, so the damn thing better give me NO FREAKING ISSUES, for at least the next 50,000KMs! Just redone whole front of the motor, and resealed the up top stuff, replaced a bunch of things getting perished, new timing belt done, water pump, lower timing cover (Toyota diesel engine runs timing GEARS for the bottom half the motor, and a timing belt from halfway up to the top), new harmonic balancer, fix up the alternator, new thermostat, full swivel hub rebuild, new bearings and seals front and back, steering box rebuild, new battery, and today, it turns out a rear shock has let go, so four new shocks are about to go on order, and that will leave me with after the next run of work, to see if I need to order just a brake caliper re-seal, or if I'll need new pistons in them too. Oh, and I'll finish welding in the new floor sheet metal shortly too. Presently I just want it finished already... But once all the above is done, I still need to fully service diffs, gearbox, transfer, and motor. Then flush and bleed the clutch, and flush and bleed the brakes. But enough about our waffle, back to Duncan's heat problems... I think for Duncan he just gets a thermoswitch, and a manual switch to run some water misters. Thermo so it's only on above certain temps, and the manual switch so it can be turned off even if it is above certain temperatures. IE, switch on for "I'm now on track", then it doesn't need any "smart" computers that might try and do things wrong. And switch the thing off completely on the cool down lap, so when he stops in pits, there's not even a possibility of it dripping any water out to get him in trouble.
