Hi all,

anyone know where i can get reflect/mirror tint for my car? Only for quater back and rear window so it should be legal isn't it? I had it on my old 33 but that came from JP. I don't want to go through all this hassle getting my sister sending all the way from the state ( as you know they bitch and winch too much :( )?

Cheers

Are you looking for just the tint film or a company to do it as well?

I can recommend the company that we had the group buy for on Whitehorse Rd in Mitcham. Think it was Premier Tint. Very good pricing and awesome job.

My cars got a black mirror tint.. Its legal, the Tint professor people did it for me.

Just because a business sells/fits it doesn't mean it is legal, otherwise Autobarn would be out of business :D

Give Vicroads a call and just ask the question, you may be disappointed :(.

I had mirror tint, it was spliced, half mirror half black, got it cheap because the Tint company used my car as a promo car. I tell you now, no Tint place in melb has it, ive been searching high and low, they have full mirror, but full looks shitty, this film goes black into mirror, and the guy in Perth I got it off imported the film from the US. Created a stunning effect and everyone turns heads to look, it kinda looks like a silhouette so the cops dont really look twice unless there right next to you and yes on the 1/4 panel its LEGAL!

i was also under the impression that if it reflects light like a silver reflecting tint, it is considered illegal. falls under the same category as strobe lights and underbody neons/flashing neons....distraction to drivers. I know you can make the rear triangle mirrors as dar as you want but dont know about the legality of the silver reflecting tint.....in melbourne anyway.

West what car have you ended up with now??

I dont' change car as often as the SuperHappySlideEachOtherBoys Nark LOL :) therefore i'm still driving the 32GTR, hows Josie?

So what happen to car like my old 33 that has mirro tint and made it through compliance? I though you can have whatever you want but only quater back and rear?

did anyone actually TEST the tints? if you got tint that you claim is legal, go to a cop who has the tint measuring device thing, and he will tell you! haha you cant have whatever you want on the back cos then you wont be able to see clearly at nite if its too dark. besides West, i like look at your interior when its parked in Glen Waverley at nites haha

Lol, should even look better now buddy with the mine's consoles that i just bought off a forum member.

is it possible to get some sort of stuff on the windows that has a minium tinting effect.. as in I don't really care how much less light is let in but having something to stop people looking in the car.. If there was a way to get matt black windows that would look sweet me thinks.. maybe I'm just dreamin'

i had a cop go over my 32 which had mirror tints on the rear 1/4s and they werent an issue.. these were mirrored silver... not like some of the other tints out there which only mirror on angles... it was like an actual mirror :) apart from the bit which had a sheep dog burnt into it lol

west - lol we dont change that much... altho i wouldnt mind going back to a 32 :) yeah josies good mate... we'll have to catch up for coffee or something

back and side 1/4s can be as dark as u want... u can paint them black if u like as long as u have both mirrors.

ok looks like that rule has changed

    • Bit of a pity we don't have good images of the back/front of the PCB ~ that said, I found a YT vid of a teardown to replace dicky clock switches, and got enough of a glimpse to realize this PCB is the front-end to a connected to what I'll call PCBA, and as such this is all digital on this PCB..ergo, battery voltage probably doesn't make an appearance here ; that is, I'd expect them to do something on PCBA wrt power conditioning for the adjustment/display/switch PCB.... ....given what's transpired..ie; some permutation of 12vdc on a 5vdc with or without correct polarity...would explain why the zener said "no" and exploded. The transistor Q5 (M33) is likely to be a digital switching transistor...that is, package has builtin bias resistors to ensure it saturates as soon as base threshold voltage is reached (minimal rise/fall time)....and wrt the question 'what else could've fried?' ....well, I know there's an MCU on this board (display, I/O at a guess), and you hope they isolated it from this scenario...I got my crayons out, it looks a bit like this...   ...not a lot to see, or rather, everything you'd like to see disappears down a via to the other side...base drive for the transistor comes from somewhere else, what this transistor is switching is somewhere else...but the zener circuit is exclusive to all this ~ it's providing a set voltage (current limited by the 1K3 resistor R19)...and disappears somewhere else down the via I marked V out ; if the errant voltage 'jumped' the diode in the millisecond before it exploded, whatever that V out via feeds may have seen a spike... ....I'll just imagine that Q5 was switched off at the time, thus no damage should've been done....but whatever that zener feeds has to be checked... HTH
    • I think Fitmit had some, have a look on there (theyre Australian as well)
    • Hah, fair enough! But if you learn with this one you can drive any other OEM manual. No modern luxury features like auto rev-matching or hillstart assist to give you a false sense of confidence. And a heavy car with not that much torque so it stalls easily.
    • Actually, I'd say all three are the automatic option. Just the different trim levels. The manual would be RSFS, no?
