So i'm doing some mods to my auto R32 to get some more power out of it. I've been looking at the SAFC 2 and i can't see any reason why it wouldn't work with an auto but i thought i should check before i fork out my $$'s!

Anyone who has had any experience with the SAFC in an auto car feel free to let me know if there will be any problems i should know about first!

Also... slightly off topic and probably a silly question but i'm a skyline newbie ;)... does my R32 have a fuel cut when there is too much boost?

Thanks

Simon!

there is a fuel cut but i doubt you will hit it with the stock turbo

also, from one auto R32 member to another, i recommend a trans cooler...

let is know how it all goes. i hear the SAFC works fine... after all it only intercepts the AFM wires and that's it so i don't see why it wouldn't work

i made 132rwkw @ 12psi (AFRs flat but at about 10.5:1) with my auto r32 so don't forget to post up a dyno graph for us to see!

cheers,

Warren

10.5:1 is very rich. maybe with 12.5:1 you will get about 147rwkw or sumfin

safc can adjust ratio so iz all good

As i will be changing the turbo... when does the fuel cut happen? Does the SAFC get rid of it or do i need something like Turbosmart or HKS fuel cut defender?

Also... is the SAFC fairly easy to install and use? Where i live the performance workshops only get good results on cars with carbies so myself and a couple of other import driving mates have to figure it all out for ourselves or go on a long costly trip to get something done!

You can't run both an FCD and SAFC, I've tried and failed, then took it to a shop who said it couldn't be done. They both tap the AFM signal wire and I guess it degrades the signal enough that it just screws everything up.

As for install, yeah the SAFC is pretty easy, it's just a few wire taps then an intercept on the AFM sig. You can install it yourself but tuning it is another matter entirely, since you run the risk of leaning out and going BOOM.

There's a couple of blokes out here who are pretty cluey with the Microtechs and Wolf 3D's so i'll see if they reckon they can get a decent tune for me until i can get to a workshop who can tune it properly i guess!

Any workshops in the ACT area or the Lithgow Bathurst Orange area any good with these?

fuel cut is easy to remove though with a remap chip.. but then i guess there would be little point running both the SAFC and getting it chipped.

i think its more like a cut based on airflow, rather than a fuel cut anyhow.

    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
