Hey pplz

Yesterday I went shopping for a sub and ended up talking to a few ppl about my r34 etc. one of the blokes ended up flutering my turbo to make the sequential noise which I think sounds quite nice. All he did was unplugged a hose from blowoff valve and put a screw in there. He said that for rollerbearing turbo its fine as he has r34 turbo on his r33 and hes done the same.

Should I keep it this way or is he wrong and this could damage my turbo among other things?

please someone let me know =)

thanks for the links man but before you actually post them, read carefully the actual point i'm trying to put across... ROLLERBEARING turbo... flutter using a screw.. not fluttering cose of a problem with the engine.

as said, please let me know guys if this is a safe practice...

Flutter noise aka compression surge, the air going back through the turbo. Some people say its bad for your turbo, but there is no proven fact it is. My mate run no bov on his r33 for few years making that fluter noise and never had a problem. Yes it does slow the turbo down on gear changes, doesnt matter what kind it is.

Hey DarkZero, can you please elaborate on what was actually done? Perhaps with a photo if possible... this sounds quite interesting.

if you dont have a BOV the turbo is pushing air into the motor at say 10PSI. When you take your foot off the accelerator the air has nowhere to go, so it tries to go back through the turbo hence the "HECTICT DOSES" of flutter.

It doesnt increase power, the air trying to go back past the turbo slows it down, therefore it could create more turbo lag because your trying to spin the turbo the opposite way.

    • I checked the injectors again (1 and 2, since they’re easiest to access) to make sure they weren’t clogged. Even though the entire fuel system had been cleaned, I wanted to be certain. Everything looked clean, so I reinstalled and connected everything. When I started the car to confirm everything was okay, it immediately revved up high, so I shut it off straight away. I checked to see if I’d missed a vacuum hose or something, but everything was connected. On the second attempt, the car ran without the high idle, but I noticed a distinct “compressed air” sound coming from the engine bay. Tracing the sound, I pushed injector #6 forward slightly and the noise stopped — it turned out it wasn’t seated properly, despite the fuel rail being bolted down. While holding it in place, the car idled steadily without stalling and ran for over 5 minutes. At this point, I pulled all six injectors out just in case I hadn’t seated them correctly or dirt had gotten onto the O-rings. Unfortunately, I discovered that I had damaged 3 out of 6 injectors (the OEM 270cc ones) during installation. So yes, this was my fault. Since only the pintle caps were damaged, I’ve ordered a Fuel Injector Service Kit from NZEFI to refurbish them. In the meantime, I reinstalled my new injectors – the car now idles fine for over 15 minutes without stalling. I have not attempted to drive it so far. It’s not perfect yet, as it hesitates when the throttle is pressed, but it’s a big improvement. Unplugging the IACV with the new injectors idles at around 800rpm, even with the IACV screw tightened fully. But this is probably due to tune.
