is anyone gonna take photos of the FMIC installation? Would be good if someone could post it up after its done since I don't think I can make it on Saturday

Someone tell me the address plz, I'll pop by on sunday

Hopefully the installation will be quite well documented... I'll be at work from 8am to 2pm so I don't know what the plan is yet...

For the final time: this event is on this SATURDAY

FMIC going in today :):(:D

At the moment I'm still at work - anxious couple of hours before I go back North to see my baby get a new set of lungs :P

Who's there? I don't know... what will the 34 look like when I get back? I don't know... The only thing I do know is that by sunset I will have a new FMIC and SAFC2 in there!!!

Nice to meet you too Steve

The Latest News:

Well the FMIC has been installed and it works brilliantly right now... you guys should hear the noise that comes from that turbo now :D All in all it took about 10 hours all up including complete dissasembly, fabrications, and modifications. But the overall experience was well worth the wait and sweat. Biggest dilemmas included: getting bonnet to close properly, getting the fan right so it doesn't hit the piping, and finally (and most obviously) getting the front bar modified so that it still looks like an R34

On a positive note though, just like to say that the JustJap intercooler and the R34 Piping from JustSR were simply fantastic! Everything bolted together nicely without any head scratching - cheers to those two places for their help on this one :D

Once again, I'd like to thank Mitch at GCWP for all the hard work... actually got him up at 7am LOL. Looking forward to next time already. Also a big thanks to all those who droped by to have a chat and offer advice.

The bad news is that the factory air snorkel no longer fits so I will have to decide on either having to fabricate a new snorkel that does, or go pod?!? Still weighing up those two options.

The second piece of bad news, well not so bad actually, is that we didn't get around to installing the SAFC2 which was a shame. But there is always next week for that :D :D Can't wait.

All of the photos and a full write up is being developed on Project R34 - SATANIC so wait for that one to be released.

Oh yes, there will be quite a lot of stock R34 gear being put up for sale in the FOR SALE section... so keep an eye out there.

Looking at getting my rear speakers (and front splits if they arrive on time) installed this weekend... same place as always; just need to check with my mate to see what time he's free :)

Also going to get my clear indicators installed - sick of the amber colored plastic which you can see from a mile away :( Picked up a set of Front and Side Clear Nismo's from Kudos Motorsports...

  • 3 weeks later...

Purchased a front lip for the 34 from carmate... It was advertised as a GTR-style lip, but other members have informed me that it is a copy of the factory GTT lip. Bloody false advertising!

Anyways, fitting will be on Saturday for all those interested. Hopefully our mate who is a body kit expert will be there to guide us along :D

any chance of a location of where you are getting it fitted? keen to pop by on a number of occasion but was alway so damn busy. Finally free this weekend, really interested in seeing it go on.

cheers all

    • Yeah, it's getting like that, my daughter is coming over on Thursday to help me remove the bonnet so I can install the Carbuilders underbonnet stuff,  I might get her to give me a hand and remove the hardtop, maybe, because on really hot days the detachable hardtop helps the aircon keep the interior cool, the heat just punches straight through to rag top I also don't have enough hair for the "wind in the hair" experience, so there is that....LOL
    • Could be falling edge/rising edge is set wrong. Are you getting sync errors?
    • On BMWs what I do because I'm more confident that I can't instantly crush the pinch welds and do thousands of USD in chassis damage is use a set of rubber jacking pads designed to protect the chassis/plastic adapter and raise a corner of the car, place the aforementioned 2x12 inch wooden planks under a tire, drop the car, then this normally gives me enough clearance to get to the front central jack point. If you don't need it to be a ramp it only needs to be 1-1.5 feet long. On my R33 I do not trust the pinch welds to tolerate any of this so I drive up on the ramps. Before then when I had to get a new floor jack that no longer cleared the front lip I removed it to get enough clearance to put the jack under it. Once you're on the ramps once you simply never let the car down to the ground. It lives on the ramps or on jack stands.
    • Nah. You need 2x taps for anything that you cannot pass the tap all the way through. And even then, there's a point in response to the above which I will come back to. The 2x taps are 1x tapered for starting, and 1x plug tap for working to the bottom of blind holes. That block's port is effectively a blind hole from the perspective of the tap. The tapered tap/tapered thread response. You don't ever leave a female hole tapered. They are supposed to be parallel, hence the wide section of a tapered tap being parallel, the existince of plug taps, etc. The male is tapered so that it will eventually get too fat for the female thread, and yes, there is some risk if the tapped length of the female hole doesn't offer enough threads, that it will not lock up very nicely. But you can always buzz off the extra length on the male thread, and the tape is very good at adding bulk to the joint.
    • Nice....looking forward to that update
