Hi,

I am thinkign of selling my 2005 suzuki swift and buying a 96 r33 gtst skyline.Would just like to know the pros and cons of owning a r33.

Also would i be an idiot to sell my brand new car which is only 3 months old to go back to a 10 yr old car. I really like the r33's but just hestitant and kinda scared in selling the swift for a bigger and more powerful car that will be a bit much to run. any advice would be appreciated. Also i would have about 3k to spend on modifications if i buy a r33 what could i get for around that price for the interior etc. I know abit about cars but not much as i am a girl. Also how much would it cost to change the automatic lever in the skyline to something more stylish?

What would the approx cost that a turbo timer, new lever, seats, dash changed to another colour set me back?

Your not an idiot for wanting to sell your brand new car your an idiot for buying it instead of a skyline in the first place  j/k

For interior jobs it depends on what level your wanting to go to.

R33 Auto gear knobs can be bought for as little as $45

Turbo timers from $59 +

Ive been Quoted $280 trade to have each front seat retrimmed and padded in black leather and $250 for the back, But price would depend on Quality of leather etc and where you have it done.

Nothing bad about owning a Skyline apart from the attention from the police but aslong as your not doing anything illegal you will be fine.

Sell the Swift and join the club :)

Have a good read of these forums, especially the maintenance section. Owners who don't know the difference between a starter and an alternator, coil packs or coil overs, cam belts or fan belts.......

Doesn't matter if you're a girl or a guy, if you're not mechanically minded it's going to cost to keep your Skyline running sweetly. The fact that they're VERY second hand with questionable milage doesn't help and it's where a buyer needs the mechanical knowlege/advice.

Regards.

Thanks I have made my decision and i want a r33 i have a bf that kows abit about cars and i have a friend who is a mechanic atthe raaf base so if anything goes wrong with it i can get them to have a look at it.

What is the petrol ecomony like in the skyline i was told dfrom 230k a tank to 400 a tank.I do about 400k a week so id prob be using about 80 bucks in fuel ???

When i buy a skyline im going to make sure i have it fully looked over by a few ppl so there is no worries there and i know what to look for etc etc i do know abit about cars but not turbo. I know the shit like whats in a motor etc like the components etc as i had to with my civic i owned stupid dealer didnt know shit i had to tell him it was head gasket that was blown in my civic but anyways hope i get a decent skyline that i will be happy with choice.

Which one handles better a new swift or a r33 skyline?

What kinda exhaust would be best oin a skyline for a low rumbling sound hehe i dont want it to sound like a lawn mower hehe!

LOL! I'd like to think that people change their exhaust for the performance benefits, not just for audible bling-factor =-p

My car has a stock exhaust (for the moment) and I quite like it! Not as beefy/lumpy as my VP V8, but deep enough that you can hear it working... and it doesn't drown out my stereo!

Most people tend to go for a 3" system, all mandrel bent, usually with a 5" tip on the rear muffler/cannon... I find that pretty loud if you are running an aftermarket dump pipe and a high-flow cat as well. It sounds nice when you really put the boot in though!

    • Is the panel filter one that is oiled? Have you ever cleaned or touched the AFM?
    • So.... the K&N air box thingo was too big, ended up gifting it to a mate, well, by gifting it he actually supplied food and beer at the pub,  which was nice, as it will not sit on a shelf in the garage for the next 10 years I did trim up some of the existing stuff to neaten it all up and gave it some wrinkle paint, unfortunately it currently has a used and abused mish mash of different types of hose clamps, 4 big fat T bolt type (shit), and a few normal clamps of vairing sizes and brands, but..... only until the 6 constant tension black worm clamps that I ordered from EFI solutions turn up next week Currently the current hose clamps are triggering me hard, LOL Is this the final version, probably not, I really want just 2 silicone pieces, a straight bit of silicone from the filter to the MAF is easy and will happen as soon as I head into Just Jap tomorrow, the problematic part is a 30° silicone bend from the MAF to the TB that I can connect the engine breather from the head, I found that there are bulk head fittings for boat bilge pumps that should work, but until I can get a 30° silicone bend the alloy pipe, and the 11ty thousand hose clamps, are there for the foreseeable future 4 hose clamps are golden, 6 are grudgingly acceptable, the 8 currently holding it all together is just taking the piss    I've also ordered 60 more retaining wall blocks for the front yard, I mis-gonculated the height that was required to get above the base of the Photinia's (red robin's) that are the hedge behind the front fence, currently it is 2 blocks high, and about 1/2 a block short, so going 3 blocks high will be above the base of the red robin's, and allow some room for mulch
    • It is the stock air box with the panel filter. Everything else is stock except the exhaust at this point, as I also went back to the cleaned 270cc injectors. I will check the RPM when the IACV is unplugged and report back.
    • As MBS suggested if this is happening when the engine is cold you're going to want to remove the intake air regulator and verify resistance + that the shutter is physically opening and closing. At -20C should be fully open, 20C half open, over 60C fully closed. At 20C should be 70-80 ohms. For AAC valve testing using a Consult cable see if you can raise and lower the idle by commanding more or less AAC duty cycle. Hopefully it's pretty linear as well, shouldn't be like 30% AAC valve is barely idling and 40% is 1500 rpm.
