Recommended Posts

oil change (hasnt been changed since i had it and i doubt they did it for compliance so well over 6000kms)

oil filter (recommended one for an R32 GTST??)

gearbox fluid

coolant

so far from the oil thread it looks like 5w-50 Shell Ultra? this should be ok for my GTST shouldnt it? or was that for the GTR? or doesnt it matter?

how often does the gearbox fluid need to be changed?

what coolants do u guys use?

anything else i should do?

inark just use an anti freexe anti boil cooant no specific brand pre mixed is better I use bp oil had no problems with them. you will notice better performance with the fresh oil and you should do it every 5-8000 klms the turbo;s break down the oil quicker.

meggala

i dunno *shrugs*.... what you think i am some skyline driver :D

i guess all coolants work the same? maybe ones with well known brands? etc...... as for all the oils, just match viscosities and oil types and your sweet i guess. for brake fluid i got the motul dot 5.1 from racebrakes. half litre for $20 i think... original dot rating is 3.

g/box oil i used castrol vmx-80

rear diff original is 80w-90

power steering i used castrol transmax Z

thats the stuff i used... i thought i was gonna do the gearbox and diffs, etc myself... got under the car... freaking no way... too hard... got my dad's mate/mechanic to do it.

z145a any will do... ryco, original nissan, valvoline. i found that you change oil too frequently before oil filters become a problem so yeah...

where you say? get an oil filter from albury autobarn... guaranteed 100+kw at wheels (even the steering wheel!) :D

Watch out what brand/type of anti freeze you use.

Some anti freeze stuff have rust inhabitors in them and if you mix to different types together it will actually clog up your radiator !!!

Have a read on the ARE site www.are.com.au and have a look at some of their horror pics... Not good.

If your going to do it, flush the crap out of it with a one of those radiator flush things..

    • Possibly avoid using a Cometic one unless the deck/head surface are perfectly flat. I did have a look just then and forgiving gaskets such as Tomei or Nitto don't exist for the FJ20, however the Bar-Tek or Kameari ones look good and might do the trick.
    • Because pipe threads for pipe things. M threads for bolt things. Throw some teflon sealant onto it and dust your hands off knowing you did the right thing, instead of going twice around the block to achieve a result using the wrong things. Of course, all of these solutions are ignoring the fact that the minimum thread pitch we're talking about here is 1.25mm, with the 1/4" in NPT or BPS being out around 1.4mm. You will need to know that the boss you're tapping has enough thickness for at least a few threads. That's one of the reasons that 1/8" is commonly used - because the pitch is <1mm. And why would you look to use 1/4" NPT in a BSP country anyway? Ugh.
    • Just throwing around ideas, does it need to be in the compressor cover? Why not the hot side piping?
    • 1/8NPT drill size = 8.7mm. Since the hole got messed up by me, it’s probably around 9mm.    So 1/4” NPT would be next step. A drill size of around 11mm would be preferred there which is not way of my M12 (drill 10.5mm and tap M12 threads)
