skyzalimit
Just found out a juicy bit of goss! Went to buy a part from a reseller on this site who didn't know if the item came with a warranty. <_< I contacted manufacturer to check & they said that only original purchaser gets a manufacturer warranty & as this person hadn't bought from them, the warranty lies with the orig purchaser! So your not getting a warranty unless you buy from an auth seller! Check before you buy & get caught out! Most prods come with some sort of warranty. I ended up buying from an auth agent. this includes places like ebay so buyer beware ask the question guys - I did Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/88361-beware-of-resellers/ Share on other sites
Mr. Oizo
I thought that would have been obvious... It's the price you pay for saving a few $$$ Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/88361-beware-of-resellers/#findComment-1594775 Share on other sites
skyzalimit
How do ya know it's not dodgy then - if I'm paying a few hundred up to a thousand for something to save $100 bucks I'd want to know it's not defective or sample stock - wouldn't you - there's gotta be a reason it's so cheap Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/88361-beware-of-resellers/#findComment-1595091 Share on other sites
MerlinTheHapyPig
alot of sellers on the forums and ebay (garage-13.com for example in my sig) will offer refunds/replacements on faulty parts, then the seller claims on the warranty later. skyzalimit
that's funny cause garage 13 is the one who didn't know if it had a warranty - their words exactly & the product they were sellling was not covered by manufactuers warranty - I checked - sorry but not everything you hear or are told is correct - all I'm saying is check & ask away if your not sure Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/88361-beware-of-resellers/#findComment-1595510 Share on other sites
ImportAutoParts
thats not 100% the case...... it is with some brands but not with all.... for example if you buy a car ....it comes with a 3 year warrenty then if you sell the car the new buyer still gets the waarrenty correct??? i bought an engine for a client the other day it come with a 3 month warrenty... i simply passed it on to the buyer of the engine and he filled it out and returned the slip to the place that i purchased it from.... not always the case Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/88361-beware-of-resellers/#findComment-1595536 Share on other sites
skyzalimit
no thats not always true either - some car warranty's are not transferrable ie when I sold my honda civic it still had 2 years to go but wasn't transferrable..... it isn't always the case I know POINT IS - CHECK THAT'S ALL I'M SAYING Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/88361-beware-of-resellers/#findComment-1595543 Share on other sites
funkymonkey
backyard parts dealer politics the onus is on the customer to find out, if you buy a product with all the information you are given, you can't demand something which is not promised afterwards. What the manufacturer offers is irrelevant. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/88361-beware-of-resellers/#findComment-1595915 Share on other sites
ImportAutoParts
ok yes that is also true skyzalimit but when it comes down to it we really we shouldnt even be having this conversation....if parts dealers just traded properly then this wouldnt happen....although its almost understandable when you think what we have to deal with these days....... good points though ask all the questions before you buy and im sure the seller should be more then happy to answer every question no worries...... But everything i've purchased from him in the past i've been told if it doesn't work he'll swap or refund. I've had experience with sellers in the past who have sold me parts which were faulty and i've been basically told "bad luck" also, just be aware, that the seller can claim on the warranty for you, as they will have purchased the parts from a proper supplier. So effectively, they * can* offer you a warranty. even if the manufacturer only gives warrantys to proper suppliers Edited September 20, 2005 by MerlinTheHapyPig Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/88361-beware-of-resellers/#findComment-1596214 Share on other sites

performance-wise
also, just be aware, that the seller can claim on the warranty for you, as they will have purchased the parts from a proper supplier. So effectively, they * can* offer you a warranty. even if the manufacturer only gives warrantys to proper suppliers <{POST_SNAPBACK}> This is a good point. I keep all documentation from all my transactions if a warranty claim arises or if the customer wants a copy. Any decent seller will back this up 100%. saff_cossie
I am an authorised reseller of certain products as I meet the requirements of my suppliers. That means either they cover the warranty or more likely, I am entitled to use the manufacturers warranty as an authorised reseller of the product. Warranties can be tricky and most don't pass on to a new owner e.g. with cars as I have been making some enquiries on that. I am also more than happy to answer questions from would be customers on whether an item is under warranty. Always pays to check though as you are the customer with the dollars.
