Hey has anyone read the the article from the editor in the ITM newsletter. How is the bit that I highlighted. :P

From the Ed...

How often does hype lead to unrealistic expectations and ultimately disappointment? More importantly, when has an act for you lived up to the hype stacked upon them? Last weekend I decided to check out John Digweed for the first time. The man needs little by way of introductions; he's a rare breed who enjoys critical and popular acclaim in equal measures. I'd been promised by so many there was no chance of disappointment, that he'd blow me away and keep my interest piqued for the three hours he was in charge.

From all I'd read and heard I was sure his set would be up my musical alley. To maximise enjoyment and recollection potential I napped before the gig, hardly drank and ensured I had an excellent vantage point in the venue. However after an enjoyably awakening first hour I found the attention waning, the hands continually grabbing for the wallet to buy a drink and before the next hour was over found myself leaving early, bored and tired.

Each to their own and from what I heard there were plenty of people who loved the same set from beginning to end. It's certainly no discredit to John Digweed, full respect to him for what he's achieved. However it highlighted the power of the mind and the damning nature of expectations. Do such lofty hopes for an evening lead to certain disappointment? I ask again, when has an act for you lived up to the hype stacked upon them?

Maybe it should read (courtesy of my sarcastic work mate - but funny as hell)

"I ate a sizely dinner (so that my acohol tolerance elevated), and then proceeded to have a light nap (that my mother woke me up from at five minutes to twelve) so that she would have ample time to drop me at the local park and ride so I could catch the 114 into the city. In all fairness to Mr Digweed, my flask of hot coco wasn't a hot as I like it and mum forgot to put the sugar in it so it was a little bitter which really effected my ability to pay attention. Also a strange, wild eyed youngster, roughly 20 years of age kept asking me "how is your night" and "what have you taken?" I am still at a loss as to explain what he meant by taken but if you have any idea as the nature of his line of questioning, please email me, [email protected]"

    • I know people cry at the price of the Getrag 12-14k for a conversion now, but it really is a nice mid point. Not going to get change from 10k on a gearset installed.  $30k++ for sequential.   I know you run the risk of a damaged used one and parts are hard to get but as a street car gearbox its really hard to beat. If you enjoy a more traditional manual, its the choice no question.
