hey guys.

i am hoping someone knows someone who owns a white 95 ( we think) suzuki vitara soft top with purple graphics down the side. this bloke ran a red ( had been red for more than 45 secs ) and smashed in to my missus and daughter in our newly bought silvia ( supposed to be my show car ). this young bloke stopped and stared at my missus for a few seconds before speeding off.

this happened at the alexander dr/reid hwy junction at about 10:45 pm on saturday night.

ever though there were many cars at the lights NO ONE stopped to see if the missus was alright.they all just drove past.......

my wife was unable to get the plate no. because of his boot mounted spare tyre but the car is very distinctive ( and now damaged with yellow silvia) .

we have only had the car for 4 days.

if you know anything please let me know.

kermit

might pay to ring some pannel and paint shops around that area and look out for the damages.. or maybe the usual insurance companies describing the car and if a claim is made for insurance let them know it was due to a hit and run not some other rubbish the guy has told them,, i dono if they would but im guessin if an insurance company can get out of payin out someone... they will

the graphics were sort of purple waves, all down the sides. they are quite distinctive but not custom. the large yellow smear down the side should also give it away lol.

kermit.

will probably phone around insurance companies on monday but not so sure about panel shops, there millions around.

i had similar happen last december.

approaching a cross intersection where i was able to go straight through, but the other direction had to stop... i saw a car coming from the left, so due to it being wet i slowed down just incase, i saw him slow down and come to a near stop, then he just jook off, literally centimetres infront of me, so to not hit him, i gently applied the brakes and moved to the left. nudged a kerb, smashed my front bar and bent the left lower control arm... and he just took off!

altho mines not as bad, its just a terrible thing when someone does that, and just flee's the scene.

if you are going to drive like a dickhead, you deserve the consequences that go with it.

good luck on catching him/getting your car repaired.

hope the wife and daughter are alright too. :D

As above definately contact the major insurance companies, being a vitara it would be an idea to focus on the likes of sgio, hbf & that sort of thing, not just cars/shannons.

That really sucks dude, I know how you feel with witnesses/and or no-one stopping to see what's going on.

thanks guys . i appreciate the support. we made a police report today and they seem confident that there should be a camera there so fingers crossed. if caught he is in big trouble for leaving the scene of a accident.

i am almost as pissed off with the other people who didnt stop . some even drove around her without a hint of concern after watching what happened. my missus is devastated at the moment , mainly because she was too shocked to chase him.

thanks again guys

everyone takes the attitude "oh someone else will stop to help them" but if everyone does that, who is going to stop? no-one.

how long does it take to pull over on the side of the road, check that the person(s) in the car arent seriously hurt or anything, and call the police if need be?

all of what.. 10-15 mins?

and even if it takes a few hours to help them... does that matter???? OH noo... may be a little late for a party or a date. What if they needed first aid or somthing.

I would deffently have stoped.

I would hope, that if i had an accident, some one would pull over to help me.

Its happened to me a few times though, no help.

Once i had ran out of petrol on marmion ave, no one stoped to see if i needed help. They didnt even slow down when passing me.

The other day, fell off the scooter, a lady with her kids just stood there, didnt even walk over (they were all of 5 m away) to help. I was ok but thats not the point, could have come over to help me lift up the bike.

I hope they catch the person on cam and they are charged with somthing, thats just not right.

Tell your wife she's human, shock can cause anyone to go to lala land for a while

It seems to be the norm, and has for some time. Some 15 odd years ago I came a gutsa off a bike at an intersection. Lights changed and everybody just drove around me on their merry way while I was on the road looking at stars trying to figure out where I was (I had concussion).

Finally someone stopped, it was a lady - she got pissed off at my babbling, got back in her car and drove off! at least she stopped and could see that I wasnt bleeding to death or badly broken.

Glad to hear the family are alright - good luck catching the fool.

Had the same thing happen to me on a bike on West Coast Drive during peak hour. Looked up while I was lying on the ground to see some lady hunched over her steering wheel, trying to drive around me. Nearly bloody ran me over. It was like I was just some pothole or something in the road to be avoided.

Perth people do suck at helping others in trouble - just seems to be a mindset here...

Hope you get the f*ker.. I'll be looking out..

    • Could be. Could also be that they sit around broken more. To be fair, you almost never see one driving around. I see more R chassis GTRs than the Renault ones.
    • Yeah. Nah. This is why I said My bold for my double emphasis. We're not talking about cars tuned to the edge of det here. We're talking about normal cars. Flame propagation speed and the amount of energy required to ignite the fuel are not significant factors when running at 1500-4000 rpm, and medium to light loads, like nearly every car on the road (except twin cab utes which are driven at 6k and 100% load all the time). There is no shortage of ignition energy available in any petrol engine. If there was, we'd all be in deep shit. The calorific value, on a volume basis, is significantly different, between 98 and 91, and that turns up immediately in consumption numbers. You can see the signal easily if you control for the other variables well enough, and/or collect enough stats. As to not seeing any benefit - we had a couple of EF and EL Falcons in the company fleet back in the late 90s and early 2000s. The EEC IV ECU in those things was particularly good at adding in timing as soon as knock headroom improved, which typically came from putting in some 95 or 98. The responsiveness and power improved noticeably, and the fuel consumption dropped considerably, just from going to 95. Less delta from there to 98 - almost not noticeable, compared to the big differences seen between 91 and 95. Way back in the day, when supermarkets first started selling fuel from their own stations, I did thousands of km in FNQ in a small Toyota. I can't remember if it was a Starlet or an early Yaris. Anyway - the supermarket servos were bringing in cheap fuel from Indonesia, and the other servos were still using locally refined gear. The fuel consumption was typically at least 5%, often as much as 8% worse on the Indo shit, presumably because they had a lot more oxygenated component in the brew, and were probably barely meeting the octane spec. Around the same time or maybe a bit later (like 25 years ago), I could tell the difference between Shell 98 and BP 98, and typically preferred to only use Shell then because the Skyline ran so much better on it. Years later I found the realtionship between them had swapped, as a consequence of yet more refinery closures. So I've only used BP 98 since. Although, I must say that I could not fault the odd tank of United 98 that I've run. It's probably the same stuff. It is also very important to remember that these findings are often dependent on region. With most of the refineries in Oz now dead, there's less variability in local stuff, and he majority of our fuels are not even refined here any more anyway. It probably depends more on which SE Asian refinery is currently cheapest to operate.
    • You don't have an R34 service manual for the body do you? Have found plenty for the engine and drivetrain but nothing else
    • If they can dyno them, get them dyno'd, make sure they're not leaking, and if they look okay on the dyno and are performing relatively well, put them in the car.   If they're leaking oil etc, and you feel so inclined, open them up yourself and see what you can do to fix it. The main thing you're trying to do is replace the parts that perish, like seals. You're not attempting to change the valving. You might even be able to find somewhere that has the Tein parts/rebuild kit if you dig hard.
    • Can you also make sure the invoices on the box (And none exist in the boxes) are below our import duty limits... I jest, there's nothing I need to actually purchase and order in. (Unless you can find me a rear diff carrier, brand new, for stupidly cheap, that is for a Toyota Landcruiser, HZJ105R GXL, 2000 year model...)
