GKTECH
What are you planning on getting out of it? You only need a bigger AFM when you are pushing more and more power (1 of the other guys will clarify when you will need the Z32) Greg Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/96051-safcii-or-z32afm/#findComment-1739282 Share on other sites

paulr33
to use a z32 afm you need safc or aftermarket ecu or remapped ecu. z32 is only required for 250rwkw and this is due to voltage restriction and not "size" restriction as the z32 is the same opening diameter as the stock rb25 unit. your car will not run as a good and wont be as driveable with a map sensor setup if thats what you are thinking of. you need an aftermarket ecu that supports map sensor to get rid of the afm, such as motec, powerfc djetro, microtech Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/96051-safcii-or-z32afm/#findComment-1739291 Share on other sites

Tangles
Do both mate! Grab a 2ndhand Z32afm from these forums for $200 or so, and a new SAFC II, and have them tuned at the same time. I found at 141awkw my rb25 afm was reading near max volatges on the safce, so having it retuned today for a Z32 afm. R31Nismoid
There is no way an RB25 AFM is maxed @ 140rwkw. Everyone does 190rwkw which is the limit of the turbo (give or take)... there is still more in the AFM Dont get a 2nd hand AFM anyway, not worth the hassle if it starts playing up. Which, after 10 years is highly likely Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/96051-safcii-or-z32afm/#findComment-1740669 Share on other sites
Tangles
R31, after the tune at 141 All-Wheel kw the voltage on the stock rb25 afm is 4.95Volts, I was told 5.06 (or 5.16 by memory?) was max. The tuners said if I want more power, then with the next mods a Z32 afm was needed, so I found a good condition 2ndhand unit and its being retuned right now along with other parts. I just hope it works!!! Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/96051-safcii-or-z32afm/#findComment-1740704 Share on other sites

Tangles
Ive got a March 1997 Nissan Stagea RS Four V, automatic, with 4wd attessa system. RB25DET has done 82000kms and replaced timing belts etc, at 80000kms along with major service and mods. All parts have been installed now, just the SAFC needs a tune, tomorrow. Ashley at Graham West Workshops (Marion, Sth Australia) has cleaned the Z32 AFM with contact cleaner, and said it works just fine and is in good condition (luckily!! I was worried after your post about not buying 2ndhand Z32's afm's due to wear / tear). R31Nismoid
AFM's are funny things sometimes, when for $200 (or less) more you can get a brand newie... thats what i would do personally. Sometimes you can get great 2nd hand gear is you know where it comes from Hmm... 140 still seems waay low for an RB25 AFM to max out at without a though. Interesting! Tangles
Cheers mate, I thought newbies (Z32 afm's) were around $400? I couldnt find a 2ndhand one for less than $150US (on ebay, I know you dont like it!). Where are they for $200? Id buy one new for that price for sure! Yeah, I was very surprised at the dyno report, AFM near maxed out, injectors at 76% duty cycle, good a/f map at 12.0:1, 141.3 AWKW. So, Ive done the Z32 and doing the FPR / fuel pump / fuel lines to help out the injector flow (hopefully)..... getting it all ready anyways for the high flow turbo (got a 2ndhand one sitting at home, was meant to be a Neo but it isnt.... ) Looking for around 200awkw+ with the hiflow, eventually. Tangles
Cheers..... yah, eventually, just on a 'tight' budget at this stage(a). (sorry, bad joke) This time next year when the hiflow happens, might look into a new Z32 AFM, depends on how the current one is holding up. Looking forward to picking up the Stagea from the shop tommorrow to see how the tune affects the car. Cant wait....
