98 octane is actually worse for those mowers since they have such low compression. Just use standard 91 octane fuel.

Mix the minimum recommended amount of 2 stroke oil in the petrol. The more oil you add, the less power you get. Typically they ask 25:1 up to 50:1 for some models. Best bet is for every litre of fuel, add about 20-30ml of 2 stroke oil and shake it up well.

Old petrol will make a mower run like crap and stall and not start easily. If you only mow once every month or two, only buy a litre of petrol every time.

The carby might need a clean. If its the standard plastic carby I'm thinking of, they're a piss easy to pull apart and clean. The rear is clipped on, unclip it, unscrew everything and lay it down in order it was removed on a bench. There are only about 10 parts total including the housing, its a painfully simple design.

The floats commonly get heaps of muck and crap (often water) in there which stops the carby from supplying fuel reliably. Water is heavier than fuel and usually gets picked up from the bottom of the float chamber and therefore the mower runs like crap. Same with the petrol tank, if water is in there, it will be at the bottom, empty a bit of petrol out from the hose going to the carby and see if it is a different color. If so, drain the tank and refill with fresh fuel.

Dont worry about removing the exhaust on the 2 stroke mowers, you get SFA improvment and HEAPS of noise.

If you need more help and are willing to try taking it apart, let me know. I've fixed a dozen or so victa's in the past so I sort of know how they work.

I used to run VP103 or VP109 unleaded in our 4 stroke mower....the 60' times had to be seen to be believed. The smell of race fuel when mowing is a benefit also......mmmm.....high octane....

Just a very important warning if you're going to sharpen the blades, MAKE SURE you unplug the spark plug.

Just rotating the blades by hand a little bit is sometimes enough to make the mower start and chop your hands to bits. Unplugging the spark plug wire guarantees it cannot start.

i got one of the upright rotary lawnmowers, bout 5hp, was thinking about finding a tiny turbo or supercharger and messing around with it, would be great fun

I vote custom "supercharger". just a fan to force air into the carby.

Of course, if you wanted to do it properly, it would be better to use a draw-through rather than a push-through, but, hey, its a lawnmower.

It'll be pulling low 12's in no time

    • KW only offers a set for the R32 GTR. Popular options are D2 racing, Ksport or Öhlins. I have a D2 Racing coilover set, though I don't know for sure which one.
    • Well, the good news is you have more than one very good option for new coilovers in and around your country. Worth the drive over to KW to talk about GTR stuff.
    • Fair enough, I am in no way a tire expert so I'm not familiar with all the terms and conditions. I'll definitely note down the AD09 to potentially try in the future. Rain is not too big of a concern for now as I will probably only drive in the rain when I have to. And considering I still lack experience driving the GTR I'd more than likely take it easy too. I have coilovers in the car but as I barely got to drive so far I never bothered to even check if they are adjustable haha. The suspension is almost entirely old and worn as well so I suppose when I eventually fix that in the future that would make a huge difference.
    • There's not a great deal to report here .... except ...... FOR .... LSD!!!  I bought a Quaife LSD from the UK and shipped it here .... Wish I'd just bought locally cause the shipping and duty was $700! But there were so many diffs used in the E90s I just wanted to be absolutely certain I was getting the right one so I spoke with a supplier in the UK who builds race cars and they have heaps of experience with the E90s.  I pulled the diff out which was seriously awesome - I've never done anything like that before, I must have watched 1000 videos on YT about it as well as consulting the Bentley manual. It was super easy in the end. The diff was delivered to the awesome folks at Hornsby Diffs and will be back in a few weeks. I also replaced the diff bushings with some Nolathane ones.  Really looking forward to getting it back and getting back to the track or even the skidpan.
    • yeah... the 13kg/mm springs weren't always in there, I had 10kg/mm but doing a few SMSP commanded heavier front springs. It's so good now going into T1 and T2, just need more seat time and real tyres.
