Last week I had my GTR tuned on Boost98 for a dyno figure of 351rwkw.I used Boost98 after reading the article in HPI by Martin Donnon.

The car ran great with knock readings in the mid 30's,till the weather got hot, where I recorded low 70's.Nigel(Ice Performance) suggested we retard the timing 2 degrees and see what happens.Single digit knock,so we tried 1 degee retarted, where we got mid teens and left it there. The car is going back in for cam timing adjustments,so I just adjusted the timing in the settings screen,I had to do it every time I restarted the car.

Today,I was near a Shell servo that stocks Extreme100,so I thought I would fill up(47 litres) and test it out.I am now running 3 degrees advanced over the original setting on Boost98,thats 4 degrees more timing!!!!! and recording mid teens on the knock sensor.

I will be using this fuel on my next tune in the New year, highly recommended.

Between now and my next tune,I will try Ultimate to see how it compares.

There are 2 Ethanol fuels.E10 has 10% and is sold by United as Boost98 and E5 has 5% and is sold by Shell as Extreme100.

Dyno figures are bound to go up dramatically as we had 365rwkw and had to knock out some timing using the obviously inferior Boost98.The 100 octane Extreme looks very very promising, allowing 4 degrees of extra timing while keepoing the knock lower, should also allow a little more boost.

which shell servo was this m&m?

Cnr Warrigal Rd and Centre Dandenong Rd Cheltenham, near DFO.

There are 5 shell servos on Burwood Hwy and 1 in St Albans as well.

thanks for that.

burwood hwy is a bit out of the way for me, so i'll have to try my luck in st albans.

Generally you loose power with ethanol blended fuels, so you have to advance the timing to get some of the power back. The good thing is, with careful tuning you can get good gains over the regular 98 RON stuff.

New 100octane shell fuel with 5% ethonal is what you want. you will not lose any power , you will gain timing, response and power.

I did some research ito fuel octane and detonation and have to wonder why the ethanol was added . I sort of though that the alcohol helped to make any condensation soluble but I'm beginning to wonder if slower burning high octane fuels need a bit of help at the cold start phase . The mighty 3 cyl G11 ran like a hairy goat at the first cold start on the Shell 100 but runs fine on it now . If anything it make a little better part throttle torque and the choke (showing its age here) is never needed .

It will be interesting to see if the other flavours of 100 octane fuels will have ethanol in them .

Cheers A

    • Oh yeah that would work excellent. Should be the same diff housing & everything. Shoot me a text or call me 260-750-2246 -Cody
    • Oh right, I didn't realise it was your car. Please do! Makes me feel better about mine. I also have a big scrape on the front left bumper where someone presumably used the wall to guide the car into a parking spot  But somehow all the funds go towards mechanical things and the cosmetics stay forever unfinished... Interesting, I don't think I have seen it before. But after seeing @PranK's rusty roofline on the BMW I'd probably leave it alone. Wouldn't want water to get in there.
    • Thanks mate, thought you might know the answer.
    • Infiniti US are teasing a manual Q50 as a way to refresh a (very old) model. https://torquecafe.com/manual-performance-sedans-arent-dead-yet/ Can't be too technically difficult given the Z has the same motor with a manual gearbox......here's hoping there is a JDM version we can import here, that would save me a world of headaches
