  1. Maybe this is an antiquated way of looking at it, but if I were to break down the decision process for martin bryant to go on a gun rampage into a percantage, I am skeptical that sugar intake formed no more than 5%. While it may have been a factor, I daresay having complex mental problems formed the other 95%.
  2. The worst I've ever had was on a flight from cancun to denver after a bad Margarita at cancun airport. They must have used tap water for ice. I had an initial gurgle in the belly after two hours or so, then it came out both ends while still in my middle seat. Leaped over the guy next to me to run down the aisle. Spent the whole flight in bad turbulence ejecting from both ends. The delta people were unusually nice and gave me a lift in a van on the tarmac with my bag to the connecting flight hall, where i still had to go through the TSA checks and security. I vomited in a bin and quickly pegged it to my flight to sydney where i dumped my bag in the overheads and went straight to the loos. Didnt bother with finding my seat. Spent the next 4-5 hours in the toilet. I'd come out every now and then looking like death and the hosties wpuld give me water and panadol. No one came near me. Spent the last few hours laying flat in the last middle row of 4 on a 747 and would sporadically dry wretch into a spew bag. Got a taxi home and spent a good 4 days in bed/on the couch. Really got knocked for 6 and I'll never forget it.
  3. Best: rage against the machine at Adelaide big day out circa late 2000's. Worst: Arctic monkeys at hordern pavilion few years ago when they went all soppy. It seemed like they didn't soundcheck beforehand very well and just sounded off.
  4. The Mars volta might be more up your alley Prank. They aren't heavy at all but all extremely talented musicians
  5. Radiohead - The bends really surprised me. I thought they were another sonic youth Brit pop rubbish wannabes. They stumbled for a bit but then ok computer really got me hooked. Bit of a masterpiece even if those kind of tunes aren't up your alley.
  6. You spin me right round baby
  7. My mrs and I tried the 5-2 for about 6 months. We both dropped weight, maintained our diets when not fasting (we eat clean anyway) and maintained our gym cycles. The results were great. Good periodic weightloss as opposed to yo-yo dropping and putting it back on. We don't follow it so strictly anymore, however we lean out as much as we can around midweek. But its fundamentally the same concepts as usual weightloss techniques. Eat clean, exercise and keep calories out more than calories in. My mrs gave it up because she fell pregnant. I still loosely follow it and think its ok. I wouldn't rave about it as a "lifestyle choice" but the science is fairly convincing.
  8. Well over the past 7 days I've been belted by probably the worst head cold I've had in years. Started spluttering last monday, toughed it out at work till Tuesday, thought I'd work from home on Wednesday so I don't spread it in the office. Then Thursday....felt like I'd walked in front of a freight train. Struggled to get form bed to the kitchen to make a cuppa. Bed ridden till saturday. Back at work now but absolutely not at 100%. I tried everything! Heaps and heaps of water, citrus fruit, heaps of veggie soups, protien, low carbs etc. Hot showers, heaps of clothing to sweat it out. Its getting round guys - be wary!
  9. yikes. Not surprising at all really given 60 years of abuse!
  10. I'm all for them - I got a yellow fever shot around this time last year. It hit me in a big way. Once the nurse gave me a band aid and said I was good to go, I got up off the bed, made it about ten steps and hit the deck. Woke up around 20 mins later. So I thought vaccines were the worst thing in the world. And then I went to South America with a pal, who then contracted yellow fever. Phew. I have never been more appreciative of vaccines!
  11. Without sparking too much of a debate - in your opinion Terry, are antibiotics overused?
  12. Yeah agreed. I take my sport seriously but these things are a fkn cop out.
  13. What's the deal with compression/recovery tights? Apart from looking like a complete muppet. The ASC website has a few articles, some proving a cardiovascular benefit, and others saying they are a complete waste. Unlike a certain other thread, I am pretty sceptical that these things are worth the money. Or just a big placebo effect.
  14. I'm assuming thats why they tell females not to eat soft boiled eggs during pregnancy?
  15. Nur 1 on m7 and m5. I think that's terry but can't remember what gtr he has now. I waved but I was in the wrx so I don't think he saw me.
  16. oh absolutely, I've noticed gym work really compliments my game play. I now consider gym work essential for my game fitness.I've noticed usually if I don't gym on the days I play sport I can outpace most people (playing soccer) but I'm not as quick off the mark if I've done legs earlier that day. Also my direction changes and balance seem to be worse on days that I have gym'd. It makes sense if I train legs at the gym then I'll be stuffed later. I don't take any supplements either. Which might be a good segway into my next question....would taking a supplement after gym help rebound back much quicker? In my case sport takes priority. I won't ever be in the socceroos but I can hold my own and play 1st div.
  17. yeah that's my fear. However I'm getting owned in pace and agility when it comes to playing sport, so maybe I'll need to think about a compromise. You play sport right? How do you find momentum changes/short sprints/fitness effect your gym work? Or adversely your sporting ability?
  18. Yeah sounds fair. Pre season training is ramping up but I don't want to drop gym work either. Might just see how the body responds in the next few weeks. So far it's gym 1 on and 1 off, and footy training three nights a week. Weekends are rest, but with a monitored diet and as little alcohol consumption as my weak willpower will allow me
  19. On a pure recovery basis, what is the minimum recovery time? Hours? Is it possible to workout, chug myself full of food and be 100% 3-4 hours later?
  20. Burn. I think there's a difference in type of activity too. My fitbit is useless at the gym, it only picks up my elevated heart rate. I still count/remember my reps. It is really useful after soccer training and playing indoor. It's interesting to note the interval style of cardio just from looking at my heart rate trend over an hour.
  21. Fit bit ultimately does the same thing. Unless you forget how many reps you've done, they are not to dissimilar. I've come to see the benefits of these things. Perhaps because I got mine as a gift i don't have to weigh up the cost benefit as much. The heart rate monitor is great for a bit of extra accuracy in calorie burn. Like all of these devices, the most taxing element is entering your diet intake. It's a critical condition of assessing total health if you're looking at making diet/exercise changes.
  22. Woah steady on compadres. I wouldn't write them off totally. I think there is absolutely a wank factor and unless you utilise them to their full potential, they are useless. I would say it has acted as an incentive to run an extra km or do an extra set at the gym. Is that benefit worth ~$180 and looking like a twat? Maybe.
