I was also told that I would be up for $1700 ocean freight... and more GST and other duties... I budgeted $5500 for getting the car to OZ. But since I got the invoice straight from the shipping co. (because I bugged them instead of agent... I think I was getting on my agents nerves >> understandable) The lady said she would forward me a copy of the invoice and arrange delivery of car to location of my choice once payment was made. That was on Thursday last week and I have now paid the invoice (Monday), car will be delivered on Thursday or Friday coming from Brissy. Now compliance... almost done with this bullshit!!!

If anyone is interested... Charges you can expect to pay on a FOB $1,130,000 YEN car from Japan. ($15,500 AUS) Custom Duty and GST $2945.55 Quarantine Attendance $15.00 Quarantine Charges $243.50 Customs Brokerage Fee $150.00 Ocean Freight $970.94 Import APSC $85.17 Bulk Inspection $40.00 Import Documentation Fee $35.00 Some items attract GST and some not. TOTAL bill was $4485.16 + $32.52 GST = $4517.68 I was expecting to pay $5500+ so was very happy when I received this bill... extra $1K to spend on car

Never again... and I have only had to wait a bit over 12 weeks (I'm impatient...BAD) I seriously do not know how a person could wait 6+ months. I have been waiting since early July (date I transferred FOB $$$$$) for my car to get to OZ. One more hurdel to jump (or 2 or 3 and compliance) I have made my final payment today to Seaway for ocean freight and GST and all that jazz, have been advised that the car will be droped off on Thurs - Friday (so going by past experience that will probably be next Mon - Tues.) Top five worst things about importing... 1. Living on another planet to people in this industry because there is obviously 50 days per month on that planet. 2. Friends / Family asking how long now just so they can see you flip out. 3. Constantly buying things for your new car you don't even have yet. 4. Constantly thinking of things to buy for the car you don't even have yet. 5. Messing around on the net all day because you can't drive your import... But I can now see the light at the end of the tunnel, that light could be a train that's about to rape my wallet sideways but that just adds to the joys of importing, kind'a like a lucky dip prize draw. And Insurance, the Jacks... should have done a top 10 Better be better than... well alot of things.

Chinese water torture but replace the dripping water with BOV **Edit... Did not know his son was killed by some P plater. I'm sure if your kid went down the same way you would have a pretty big chip on your shoulder also. I was friends with a girl that was killed on Lygon street in the mid 90's (this did not make me hate all young drivers or hot cars but I do understand his concern, it is such a tragic way to lose a life, even though being a prick is not called for in most cases) It's sad in many ways and I think if I ever do get jacked by him I will wear it on the chin and get over it. Defect anit the end of the world and if he does stop some lead foot pimple face mowing some inocent down (he does frequent the wanker cruze meets by the sounds of it) then in a round about way that's ok with me.

R32 All the way... Upkeep is expensive, but if you want one and can't afford to keep it on the raod then s15. If you can't afford the upkeep of a GTR then your "potential" for the s15 would also be limited? But a much more cost effective everyday car. You also don't get to own a GTR, your young (*maybee to young @ 22 for the GTR) and it is you right to make not so wise choices about what car to drive. *to young for the insurance, no other reason as I don't know you. My 2 bob

Justin... Your rims are nice and deep'ish also. Great photos, and might I say great "kind'a trippy" web site you got also. Like your work! I may be selling rims a few months after receiving car...will keep ppl's posted.

First post in the Japan section... Put your banner in a golf bag with no clubs etc... Golf bags fly for free! You could also put heaps of other stuff in it to bring back to Oz. (maybee put a putter in just incase they check?)

Who did you use to get the car in 3 months from date of purchase? I'm assuming that it's already been complied and stuff? Well done on the car and the short wait.
-
Mine in Japan - It has landed in Australia today though Should be driving in about 3 weeks.

All I heard was BLAH! BLAH! BLAH! BLAH! BLAH! BLAH! :Pres-hit: :jk:

How embarrasing if the 14 - 15 year old GTR R32 came in over the more modern EVO and WRX even though they they are the fastest versions of those cars ever built (standard) I think I'm going to call "SHANANIGIN'S" (spelling) on this one. ** Have not seen this DVD and I'm blinded by the light, love whatever...

OK I will get down and put some names (forum) to faces. That will be good. I also will have a UVP... are the jacks being invited? Is it worth the risk? Whats the worst they could do? It's tempting.

Spoke to a KIWICAR agent in Brissy today about my car, as it was originally going to land today. Checked KIWICAR web site this morning and schedule had changed... Car is now landing tomorrow morning 6am. He also advised that I'd be dreaming if I thought I would have my car in Melbourne by 6th - 7th of this month, which would leave maybee just enough time to get it complied and come down to the meet. So, I won't be showing my face at this meet unless I rock up in my brother in-laws REX and I don't want to spoil the day or give the REX a complex:). Fingers crossed I may get some good news for a change and everything will run smooth and I can make it. If not I will join at next months annual meeting or via mail.

I would also like to jump in on this thread (sorry NismoR32R) as I will be making my choice very soon between Racepace and ICE. My car should have landed TODAY in Brissy and will have it back from compliance and so on in about two two and a half weeks I hope. I have had a chat to Ben over the phone, he was honest... maybee too honest about the condition of my GTR and kind'a scared me. I only want a TUNE, the figures that were flung around could have almost got me a reco RB26DETT engine! I have not yet got in contact with ICE and would like to get some idea (besides his the best.. trust me) responses. I know that they are (the best) and take everyones word for it... now like NISMOR32 would like to get the concensis on how they run their respective business's and service levels that can be expected for the HUGE ammounts of money that is very likely to be changing hands.
-
I think you would be limiting your options in the 19" range with your budget (unless you already have the rubber) You can't get any good rims in 19" range for $2K with rubber (if any) Cheapest rims and tyre packages I have seen are all in Sydney advertised in the "import" mags. And mostly all the ones that are cheap scream "BLING,BLING,BLING" louder than Mark Holden!

Missed meeting and club sounds great. Should have Skyline by then.

Beer goggles on... yes. 100% sure it was a Mirage. Good old Burv. Like I said I work across the road and with all the other multi-national companys (HP - MYOB - Motorola - Cannon - CFA - VIC Roads) you can get a nice spread of office chicks and surburban bunnys + the "ruffnecks" and it all blends in well and creates a great atmosphere for a Friday drink with workmates (even bettter in summer - large beer garden) and there is 6 pool tables. It not a place you would through a birthday party or go to "hang out" on the weekend. It serves it's purpose as a place to wet your whistle after a big week at work.
-
The BURV (good pub... once you get the "feel" for the place) is on the corner of Burwood Hwy and Springvale Rd.
-
Was having a few brew's tonight at my local and a fight erupted between some locals and some passing by plumbers (I drink at the BURV cos I can roll across the road after work and I don't drive to work on most Friday's) Anyway, after fight was stoped. Cops arrive and one cop car caught my eye. I saw two uniformed officers get out of a Navy Blue Mirage. Not any old Mirage, this one had an aftermarket front spoiler, side skirts, 3" exhaust tip plus (this is the killer) it had those neon blue lights on the bonnet for the winsheild washer squirt things. No way I would have picked it as a cop car in a million years. So next time you see a Mirage... Look twice B4 playing up.

Need your job sooooo bad. Where do I apply? I'm serious!

how long to import a car?
RTFGTR replied to DLuded's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
I have been told compliance will only be 5-7 days as it falls under the 15 year rule. And untill this week (I have also heard of the holiday in Japan this week) getting in contact was good (not easy..but good) and I would have to say that information was informative and accurate. For a first import, I'm glad that J-Spec were helping me with the process. Ship should have landed today? -

I am expecting mine on the 15th to land in oz. Bought on 15/06/04 on track for the 8 - 12 weeks...but agree with the lack of communication. Been trying for 6 days to get through, no response to email also.
