  1. its such a shame that so many people don't have any taste when it comes to modifying their cars. no doubt people will have seen the s2000's getting round on mahooosive chromies and the huge numbers of cars with nothing but bling. i just don't understand how these cars are attractive!!!???!!! spotted mick's sti (i think) in woden the other night. d
  2. heh nah must've been someone else! i'm curious to know now! there should be only 1 calsonic blue hotness r in canberra!!!!! d
  3. i can't remember what i was doing on friday night/saturday morning. all i know is that i was far from being in a fit state to drive so it might've been someone else! d
  4. hehe. indeedies. cheers! i'm assuming that would be eddies then??? d
  5. aaah funkymonkey nice one bruvahhhh!!!! and i can't believe how much cooler the tokyo motorshow looks than the sydney show! from that like 1.5sec clip of the line doing its thing up on the screens it sound like *touch wood* a 6... but then again hi-tech 8s blur that line somewhat... we'll see i spose! d
  6. spotted. white 33 in civs tonight. new skyline owner in canberra. we might see him out and about on the forums (i think he's just devouring the huge amount of info there is on here before he posts! ) also, spotted a rs2000 esky, pale yellow 300 and a silver 33gtst cruising about. me and my mate had a bit of a play with them. gave wave/toot to/from the line. and yeah, andy that sux when you see dodgy stuff like that. its happened at mine a few times and its really bloody disconcerting!!!! d
  7. personally, i think the mongoose is the best alarm on the market. i did HEAPS of reading into what was out there, the consensus being viper mongoose or auto watch. the m80 had the features and had the price and my installer knew what he was doing so yeah. i'm happy d
  8. hahaha. i love it how its so easy to stereotype but yes, "waddle" is kinda amusing. hope it buffs out man. par carks are hazards of the most evil variety. especially thems hyundai eggshells. anyone driving such a horrible car really shouldn't show any respect for it. i drove one once and i'm still suffering from PTSD. d
  9. well i think we've both made our points clear. i'll consider this thread done then?? and man, its a forum. the whole idea is for people to dispute and share opinions and learn from what is typed, so don't take it to heart. tis just words. peace david
  10. lets be frank here, you dont need to head out and purchase the best wiring kit on the market. if you're building an all-stops-out system, sure, having 1/0ga fancy rca's/cables and funky titaniplatigoldsilverum terminal blocks etc is nice, but for a basic system something like an aerpro kit or even mix+match buying separate rca's and separate power cable off the reel etc is gonna save you a whole bunch. there's a lot of parts in these wiring kits that is superflous. sound deadening can be done later if you so wish, but saving and getting the whole lot done in one fell swoop when the doortrims are off and the boot linings exposed and all that jazz will probably save you too. your choice of equipment is nowhere near as important as the quality of your installation. i've heard big dollar systems sound like ass and very simple systems sound sweet - get your system installed right and the possibilities are endless. and also, you can always upgrade equipment as new things come out or as you find cash, but changing your installation can be a nightmare if you've invested time and money into building specific amp racks and sub boxes to suit particular drivers. i still say put your cash away and do it once right. there's a term in the audio industry known as the "hi-fi rollercoaster". if you get on at the top you'll never need or want to go higher, but get on at the bottom and you'll find you wished you'd spent bigger first up. 2c d
  11. forget all about power ratings on speakers/drivers. simple as that. like i've said before use them as a guide only. amp power is a more critical spec and you can NEVER have too much power. don't worry about "frying" your speakers cos you have too big an amp as this is a rare thing (unless you're really careless). the more power you have, the greater the dynamic headroom and the further away you stave off the onset of clipping. when it comes to setting your system up, remember that gain controls are NOT volume controls. they are sensetivity settings. read this: CLICK d
  12. while there's been plenty of talk about an 8 powering the new cars, i reckon we'll see a twin turb v6. nissan has poured plenty into their latest crop of v6's and, by all accounts, they aint too bad. one thing for sure, the inline 6 is dead *kicks and screams and flails about unhappily* d
  13. yeah this is pointless. you're not driving the kevlars to their optimum. you have not set them up to give off their best. i'm not going to argue with you here. you have not listened to them properly based on what you've said. for the benefit of all who might be reading about this, if you're considering the kevlars listen to them yourself. you may find them just waht you're after. i wouldn't place too much emphasis on siksII's experiences. trust your own ears! tweeters in your sails. try putting them in the kickpannels. have you experimented with your tweet positioning??? can you 100% say the jaycar tweets are no good when you HAVE NOT HEARD THEM AT THEIR BEST????? congrats man! pat yourself on the back. thats a truly unique skill you have there how, from my posts you dreampt up the concept that i WOULDN'T be able to pick this, i'll never know. aaach. man seriously get over yourself. i used to work for the AUSTRALIAN IMPORTERS OF PARADIGM. were you reading my post close enough to say that i was NOT listening to the kevlars (i.e. the speakers you own) but other RESPONSE drivers in a box. i was stating that the kevlars, given a chance, would perform well compared to OTHER CHEAP SPEAKERS!!! read man read! let me assure you there's nothing wrong with my ears. i can and have picked differences in $100,000 speakers so you just sit back and listen to your titans. nowhere did i state that the kevlars were better than the paradigms. i'll be entirely frank i reckon the titans are pretty average anyway, but i was comparing them to jarrah-box, response driver'd speakers jaycar USED to sell. now don't get me wrong. i don't personally like the kevlars. i own dynaudio system240esotar 2ways so thats to be expected. but i will defend them. they are, like much of the response range, very good for the doh. isn't that what this thread is about anyway???? i refuse to waste any more time in this thread. take whatever you want from it. i'll follow the old adage of "never argue with an idiot. they drag you down to their level, then beat you with experience". many thanks ;) d
  14. like i said, i wouldn't be too concerned with "matching" your power ratings. that mtx monoblock you were recommended would be just fine d
  15. just purely out of curiosity where do you usually put them, esp in cars with very small dashes? d
  16. you'll have to budget more than $150-$200 on sound deadening methinks! if i could deaden a car for that i'd go into business! and i think you'll find that installation, depending on how flashy you want it and how good you want it to sound, will cost you a damn sight more than $4-500. i spent close to that on wiring/terminations etc and all the little things (they'll add up! i promise you!!!). like i said, i think you'd be best off speaking with marty (or, realistically, any installer with product knowledge at a reputable store). cheers! d
  17. some places will man. i'd quite often go below cost on a products when i was selling hi-fi just to take the customer out of the market. that way you gain a customer instead of losing them. almost any shop will beat a price, but rarely will do anything price wise when matching prices from the net (ebay/wholesalers/parallel imports etc). you've got to be vigilant man!!! d
  18. if you're serious, start reading here - Clicky!!! there's more than enough information within these forums to make a simply KILLER system, if you're prepared to wade through them d
  19. well, actually, rear speakers decrease sound quality and authenticity significantly (imaging - the feeling of the music being on stage infront of you). i'll never put rears in a car unless they're for a proper surround system and i won't be doing that until you can buy decent sacd headunits.
  20. margins vary from product to product.... but you can get a system at a proper car hi-fi store, in most instances, nearly as cheap as stuff coming from dodgEbay etc. d
  21. well, what does that leave you?? if you hide your woofers, amps and speakers you'll see your headunit and i'm sure you could put pioneer badges and logos everywhere if you want to look really loyal to your brand i'd have a set of splits in the front. sub (or 2 if you like) in the boot. no rear speakers (DEATH TO REAR SPEAKERS!!!!). all the necessary aplification and a good headie. that is all. d
  22. sound deadener lowers the resonance frequency of whatever panel you apply it to. dynamat and brown bread, along with stinger and wurth and g-spot and dls and plain chant and ..bla bla bla..... they're all "basically" variations on the same theme. when i deadened my old 33 i used g-spot serenity max (dynamat etc would work just as well), a heavy duty bitumen paint, bits of foam, cotton batts (like mini fibreglass batts), felt, double sided tape, rubber grommits etc etc - whatever worked the best for whichever area i was concentrating on. when i finished, my car was -4db quieter inside (less than half as noisy) at 100 in 5th and completely rattle free at all times. be prepared to start to go prematurely gray if you are to go as keen as this tho! was a right royal pain in the ass!
  23. i'm thrilled with my mongoose. very impressive alarm. the quality of the installation is the key. brant alarms have a good rep, being 6-point really only means 2x 3-point setups. similar story in the rexies/sti's/etc etc. i believe remote-start alarms are, technically, illegal in most states. i've read this a few times. can anyone confirm? krzysiu is on the money tho. who is going to break into a car with a dirty great mutt in the back seat!!?!?!?? hehe d
  24. or you could wring the neck, price wise, of a salesman at an australian shop and keep your dollars in australia! ... just a thought d
