Cheers for posting, and gutted to hear about your luck - at least by sharing its helpful to know given there is still clearly no guarantee things are going to get any smoother. I feel like almost all that needs to be said has been for any people who aren't already committed to EFR kits, really. I know I'm convinced. Particularly disappointing to hear the new ones are really laggy?! Did any of the previous ones go well enough to justify any amount of effort over "competitor" units before the failures?

I actually know of more installed EFR turbos failing than I know of running happily now. Crikey!

Precision plain bearing turbos aren't necessarily famous for their longevity Ball bearing turbos are spendy to fix, but they really last...

Oh - you are getting a plain bearing PT? OK yeah, if size is an issue then the PT6262 is probably the best value for money turbo thats going to make a good amount of power. Otherwise a BW or a Holset unit would be brilliant.

For what its worth, both of them would be a heap better than the T78 haha. But yeah, with a 7200rpm limit I'd be looking at a PT6262 at most. How much are you looking at spending? Have you considered a GT3586R-HTA from Forced Performance? They are very very cool turbos...

The PT6266 has an updated higher flowing turbine wheel, not aware of any other differences. Here's a dyno plot from an EVO running cams which are on the mild side for this kind of power (probably good part of the reason the power doesn't keep going to higher rpm), 35psi on E85 with more to give with more tuning... which should be done this week. This is a 2.2 litre with a T4 open turbine housing: Because of the natural "blargh American dynos are BS" I take the liberty to provide some very conservative calculations to give what it should make - at least, on a Dyno Dynamics at equivalent rpm: 4000 - 125kw 4500 - 225kw 5000 - 363kw 5500 - 412kw 6000 - 535kw 6500 - 555kw 7000 - 561kw 7500 - 555kw 8000 - 528kw 8500 - 509kw Over 2500rpm with 500+awkw, its pretty insane imho. Look forward to seeing what it does with more boost, even though its beyond what any of us would normally push

It will be fun, thats for sure There are quite a lot of turbos out now which make GT40Rs look out of date as well, turbo tech has been making good progress in the last few years. If you need the flow of a T78, and have one anyway - then its not going to be the worst you can do.

Hahahahaha what? T78s are very amusing, but they make the combination being talked about here look really really really good. They are good for good power, and are strong, but man they are spastically laggy for the power they make and come on retardedly!

Will be interesting to see TD05 > GT28... I'm trying to hold it in, but I think GT28s have no place on RBs. If people want >400hp, they should have a decent single. If you want less than 400hp, toughen up

How have you guys established that its the turbine side which is choking them? Could always go to T518Zs if GT28s aren't enough, a lot easier

Hmmm people definitely normally make more with 2871Rs than GT2860Rs - did you do anything to headwork with those changes?

11psi from 3500rpm is hardly impressive, especially from a turbo which is probably going to hit a wall around 260kw. At such low boost it won't be at the turbos limit, so no wonder it doesn't fall over by 7000rpm - pulls hard is a relative term, 11psi isn't going to deliver what I consider to be "pulls hard" on a stock RB25. Surging at 11psi is particularly unimpressive, you've pretty much managed to make a ill-thought of turbo look even worse in my eyes with your post. My GT3076R pulled PROPER hard from 3500rpm (well, compared to 11psi on a GT28), without surge, on 17psi - many many a good time had with it. To the OP, nice work - sounds like you're heading towards what is going to be a really really well sorted package... having the GT2876R sound like the only downside to it. Once thats binned, its going to be a proper all around weapon

When is the next outing? I feel this is the season for one of you fellas to nudge the 7.4s - when the Pro cars both you (Godzilla lads) and Heat Treatments emerge I have a sinking feeling they will start getting a lot more interesting and the GTRs might start gathering cobwebs On that note, how soon before the R35 emerges? And will it be doing some time with RB power?

Wow I can't believe you spent that much more money on that awful turbo after being told how bad they are, man if you had saved a couple of pennies elsewhere and used the change to get something decent you'd have a pretty swish package relative to the performance you have now

The GTX2860Rs, and maybe GTX2863Rs may be interesting in twin form on GTRs - I could see the GT2863R being quite an interesting thing on an RB20 if you can get them with a T3 flange turbine housing. I don't see the point in the GTX3576R, personally - there has already been an overlay of a GT3082R and GTX3076R which ended up pretty much identical. The GTX 76mm compressor doesn't flow as nicely overall as the GT 82mm compressor, and seems to be overall no flasher in terms of bringing on boost so really it sounds like an expensive downgrade to a GT3582R. I'd be happy to see it prove to be an incorrect evaluation, but it sounds like the answer to a question no one asked. The GTX2860R and the GTX55 are probably the most exciting prospects here I think - instead of having fun with all these new compressor wheels etc, I think they should look more into providing quality twin scroll turbine housings and make use of the fact that Borg Warner have made big promises which they've not delivered on... if they can fill those gaps they may keep themselves in the game.
