  1. I met a guy a while back who swore on his life and bet his balls that bovs decreased performance and hurt the engine, no matter how much i argued with him, he couldn't understand. Sorry, just thought i'd mention that.
  2. theres a place called Type M in dandenong. its near or on amberly drive just off dandenong - frankston road, they have a lot of half cuts, but no where near as many parts as you would suspect with the name and all.
  3. just took my type B (shorter) stock wing off my r32 type M, looks 10x fatter! I'm loving it, can't believe I didn't do it sooner. Anyone want to buy it?? pm me.
  4. Hey ppl, For the ppl who have an r32 gtst, I was thinking the other day, what if once you got an aftermarket intercooler with new piping and removed the old intercooler, if you had a pod that was getting hot air, could you run say a flexible corrugated pipe from the AFM through the old intercooler piping vent, and then sit a pod down in there. It would be recieving a lot of cold air, i can't imagine any water getting to it if you have you guard from the wheel well, and it would be out of sight for cops. What do you reckon? Has anyone done this before? If so, give us the details! BSUAVE
  5. Hopefully it can be made so that it looks stock so we don't get defected for having intercoolers and pods!
  6. If your in Melbourne, there is a joint in dandenong that does custom pleather seat covers for around $500 a car. I had the front seats done on my FC RX-7 and they were shit hot! No one could tell that they were covers nor fake leather. They fit perfect, and i'm organising a group by with my mates in a few weeks time to get the skyline done. It might be a bit overkill for your needs, but all the seat covers in auto barn are absolutely S**T!
  7. I Don't know how much patience cubes has, but seriously man, u jus gotta start reading everything u can to find out about turbos n the rest. FAQ sections are very good. Its helpful to know how the engine works, how the turbo works, and how these components interact as a system. howstuffworks is an awesome site, any one who doesn't think its worthwhile is ignorant. I got an r32 gts-t coupe, it boosts 10 pounds (PSI) stock. When people say 0.8 bar or something like that, its a fraction of the 14.7 pounds mentioned before. 10 pounds in BAR would be just under 0.7 BAR (10/14.7) The whole pound thing is that 1 BAR is what is atmospheric is. It is also what non-turbo cars drive around with. Your average non-turbo car mixes 14.7 parts of air to 1 part of fuel. Turbos force more air into the engine than the normal atmo engine, so if we boost 10PSI more thats around a 75% increase making our little 2lt much more powerful. Keep in mind, that the more boost, the more fuel is compensated by the car. Basically, the more air and fuel you can cram in your engine on 1 stroke, the better. As mentioned before, the cooler it is, the better. You should find something like that on howstuffworks.com amongst many other useful informations. Lastly, if you don't already have a turbo timer, get one or take it easy the last few minutes of your journey otherwise you will damage your turbs over time. Keep your car regularly serviced. If you got shit fuel economy (400km to a tank or less) change your oxygen sensor (search for a post on it). Cops love to pull skylines over: if you get pulled over, don't talk too much, and try and see if the cop is dopey with cars so you can trick him out of defecting you which leads me to this - try and keep your as obviously roadworthy as possible.
  8. Thanks for the help guys, was planning on getting a RB25 turbs sooner or later anyways. Spot on with the answers.
  9. hey all I recently imported a 1990 r32 gts-t. Its very stock and in pretty good nick, except for the following two things. It has 104,000klms on the clock, 100k service done at 97,000. The car runs perfectly. No funny noises except for a bit of tapping from the rocker cover, no leaks, etc. I'm a pretty experienced DIY'er and know what different colours of smoke mean amongst other stuff. 1. I've been told that when i accelerate hard and then let off (say when changing gears) i have a small puff of white smoke from the exhaust. This is after the car is warm and has been warm for a long time. Can anyone tell me what is causing this? I don't have any other form of smoke coming from the exhaust except for the early morning condensation. 2. I recently installed an A/F ratio gauge in the car. I know they are pretty useless, but the actions of the thing got me thinkin. Under acceleration, it runs slightly rich and doesn't fluctuate the entire time under acceleration However, when at cruising speeds, holding acceleration it will hold stoich for 5/6ths of a second and bounce to very lean breifly for 1/6th of a second and keep repeating that cycle the entire time i'm at cruisin acceleration. It seems like a miss of some sort, any help??? Sorry for the long ass post guys. Thanks for your help in advance. BTW - i've searched through many pages on the white smoke thing, only to find that people say that "its bad". HOW BAD??
  10. I f*cken hate this bullsh*t.
  11. I got a 32 gts-t, stock. When I drive the car normally, its fine, but when I change gears when gunnin it, i've been told that a small puff of white smoke is discharged from my exhaust. Does anyone know what it could be, and how to fix it?
  12. Maybe its just my experience with a clay bar, i never found it did much for my paint. Instead of going for the Kitten red cut and polish, go for the Kitten Black cutting compound, and then use green kitten polish, n then a good wax. You will be there for a while, it *should* work, did for me. I had heavily oxidised paint and now its pretty sweet in most areas where i didn't go half-arsed.
  13. This wouldn't be the best for alloy's, however, if your talkin' interior parts, a cheap option could be to go to autobarn, buy some chrome film and glue it to your interior parts. If you do it right, your interior will come up with a flawless chrome finish. nb: some autobarns don't carry the stuff, but they could probly order it for you.
  14. yeah, i got that same problem. I don't think it needs lubrication, i think that there is an engaging gear which is slipping. I'm yet to get around to it, but if you take off your map light and sunroof control panel, and then make the sunroof move by pressing the switch while the panel is out, you can see a gear moving when you look at the sunroof motor/mechanism. i think that might have something to do with it, but yeh, haven't bothered to look at it properly yet. If anyone has a solution, i would also like to hear about it
  15. Hi all, I need advice SAU: I got a mate who has a 91 180sx SR20 turbo. Usually his car is fine, he recently bought it and it is close to stock (basic mods). Recently though, if his car idles for a while and he then revs it only slightly and begins driving, he will blow a lot of blue smoke out the exhaust which will subside after accelerating normally for about 10 seconds. The second symptom is that when he changes gears on moderate to hard acceleration, he cops an immediate hesitation that can also be found when accelerating, say in 2nd, letting go of the accelerator and then resuming (without changing gear) after a second or so. Aside from that, the car runs perfectly. His mechanic claims that the seals on the turbo have gone, but after reading some of the other posts on the forum, i'm not so sure. The go is to replace the turbo in a few days however, it would be a waste of money if it wasn't the turbo. Money is tight. Does anyone have an explanation to what is happening? if so, what should be done??? Thank you very much in advance. Lior.
  16. What about a Black 1990 r32 Gts-t manual Type M, Bone stock, 104,000klms with sunroof and 12 months reg?
  17. Bleed your brakes properly and use decent fluid. The creaking usually means that there is air in the system. Its not hard, but if you are unsure of how to bleed your brakes, take it to a professional brake place like ABS or something. Its not much labour, so it shouldn't take long. Lior.
  18. Browny, thats probably the most progressive post in this thread. I enjoyed reading your possible 'solution', which is more than what I can say for myself. You are correct in saying that I am concered with government actions, but as with all government actions, this certain issue is affected. My point basically is, if you are considered to be as responsible as middle aged adult in the eyes of the law system, it should be only fair to be considered the same on the roads. I won't comment on your proposed approach, I will say it is definetly a 'workable' solution. We can't have everything we want. I would prefer to see a complete removal of this law however, a compromise is usually required, and this is what your solution seems to propose. It can be beneficial to those who are real enthusiasts, although it will effectively cost (in the eyes of a young person) a lot more in monetary terms. Perhaps a rebate of the fee could be given if one incurrs less than two speeding fines or something, or is not busted 'hooning' or something to help relieve the cost. It would be beneficial to researchers because they would be able to reliably discern P platers with high powered vehicles, and the effect of proper traning. After a certain time, it will be clear as to which opinion is correct, whether high powered vehicles are unsuited to new drivers or not? The results would certainly shut me up! All in all, the government would probably not implement such strategies due to the costs and time involved, when they probably have many more urgent issues to give attention to. There are many more solutions to the problem. For one, I could see a lot more time spent on L's would be beneficial. In my personal experience, I got me L's pretty much the day I turned 16, and drove approximatly 10 times the reccommended hours in all conditions so by the time i got my p's, pretty much when I turned 18, I felt i was quite experienced compared to a close friend of mine who probly only got half of the reccommended hours (about 60). Ofcourse, it would be very difficult to monitor such a requirement, but as previously mentioned in one my other posts, we cannot idiot-proof society, and laws such as the one in question aim to do so.
  19. I do agree with you Ruffels. There are always a small minority who will not use their own discretion/common sense and end up on the 6pm news and this law is probly such an attempt to idiot-proof a society. This law effectivly serves a few (idiots) and is a burden on many such as myself. I'm don't know how to say this clearly, but the drivers in high powered vehicles will do something dumb in them and it will make statistics appear in favour of the argument that high-powered vehicles cost lives, when it is the driver's choice. However, for the citizens who prefer not to break the law, they have to put up with shitty little laws such as this one because of a small group of citizens who will go much further than breaking this law, as well as excessively speeding and street racing and so forth. To hopefully clarify, you can own a high-powered vehicle and not do anything stupid in it, but there are some who will own the high-powered vehicle, be stupid and break further laws, which creates the b.lls..t reason why this law exists. It is only minor, but I have to worry about being pulled over for having a high powered vehicle, even though i'm not doing anything really wrong.
  20. Browny, by using that annoying quote by quote display of evidence to use my own argument against itself, you have simply answered your own question. I start off by saying that the government/media claim that driving skills are related to age, and i then simply agree with this. Then you quote me saying I don't like the justification of the law in question, which is absolutely true, because, as you have found, i don't agree with it. Now, in your last paragraph, you believe that because they are not restricting something so essential to life, that it is simply okay? I suppose it depends on your value system, on what each individual values and on personal believe, but any restriction on what I can and can't do I hold very personally. I mean, for someone who couldn't car about which car they drove, this law wouldn't particularly affect them, so why complain however, for me, instead of driving my beloved skyline which I do treat with care and respect, because of some stupid f...kn law, i gotta get rid of it????? NO F.K.N WAY! Imagine if you couldn't drink until you were 21 (regardless of driving), people who don't consume alcohol wouldn't have a problem, but people who like to drink and party would feel pretty oppressed. Many may regard alcohol as being essential to life (or liveliness, or liveleyhood) and if the same restriction was in place, the same argument would be present, but you would be okay with such a restriction, even if you liked to get s...tfaced on the weekends? Well, during this semester break at uni, i can't think of a hobbie which i've spent more time on than my car. I think the principle is the same. I think it all essentially comes down to what you can do as an adult vs a minor. It comes down to personal opinion of whether or not you think the law is valid, i think it isn't, and this is what (imo) law is/should be based on in this country - the opinion or belief of the people. Don't get me wrong, take this for example, the law which states that provisional drivers cannot have alcohol in their blood. It is well proven that alcohol can alter driving capability and this coulpled with inexperience could be dangerous. I do agree with this, I make sure i'm completely sober before i hop into my skyline. However, to take the argument back a level, where are the hard facts stating that driving a high powered vehicle is dangerous? Its not like the car is constantly on full throtle. It is up to driver, in his right mind to act appropriately. It seems like I might be going back and forth in my argument, and I will clarify anything that sounds ridiculous. Wishaw, I hope this answers your statement as well, but seriously, there are many out there who at 17 have a nice car, and they've claimed to earn it (read: SAU). Anyone can work at 15 years of age and not every young person works at coles or maccas to earn frk all. I hope you can all see where i'm coming from.
  21. I'm not sure where you derive this question from, but it seems to be the government/media who claim that driving skills ARE age related as the vast majority of new licenses are issued to young drivers. I'm sure many would agree that you become a better driver with age and experience, but it is not fair to limit the choices (and effectivly, freedom) of a young person who is of 'legal age'. This is especially true when claims that having a high powered car are the main cause of accidents: Is almost illogical due to the many other factors of driving, and As far as I know, ineffectively substantiated. There is a distinction between provisional drivers and fully licensed drivers so the law can differentiate certain laws, such as blood alcohol content, demerit point system and other reasonable expectations of a new driver. However, to have a power restriction, effectively limiting the cars we can choose to own, drive and have as a part of our lives is unfair to the other 'adults' of this society. If we were to get our P's at 17 and get our full license at 18, and this restriction was in place, I wouldn't have a problem.
  22. thats a very nice collection! i make a keyring out of an S badge from a 32. If only I had a digital camera. Anyone got any others?
  23. Hey all, Wondering if anyone has a decent skyline keyring for their keys. A while back, I saw a key for a 300zx (which already looks quite good) with a keyring of a 'Z' attached to it. Is there any such available of say a skyline 'S'? I'm thinking of perhaps rippin my chrome silver GT badges off, stickin em together and making a nice little keyring. Should look pretty good i reckon. What you guys think?
