can you guys quote how much those plenums cost you? and where you got them from?

anymore input ?? anyone have this mod done on a high hp application ? mods are RB30DET - stock int china ex manifold top mount cleaned up gt3540 .7 and .82 38mm tial gate nizmo 740cc inj walbro pump 300x600x100 cooler modded front facing plenum apexi pfc q45 AFM 3" zorst few bits n pieces ive missed out but thats about it. should be all back together soon.. just wondering about the plenum mod...

Im getting myGT3540 installed and we decided to change the whole cooler setup and install a 300x600x100 and we have modded the plenum to have the throttle body facing foward. I have heard on many occations that this can cause number 1 to run differently to other cyl and cause detonation and break engines. Anyone have any information about this ? I am looking at making 300rkw +

This is a awesome idea - when i had my rb25 with the vg30 housing my boost did not come on till about 3500. Installed the rb30det and i could get 5 6 psi at 1500rpm and full boost at 2600rpmish. Its a completly different car to drive.. dont have to change gears soooo late in the rpm

Has anyone got a Rb30DET and injectors around the 740cc size get any good economy on crooze?

the oil could have gone on one of the coils and caused it to stop working. clean all the oil and see what happens. if you want to check your engine do a compression test.

Mafia I wouldnt bother with this as i installed a 14psi XR6 upgrade wastegate actuator (spring was rated for 14psi) it changed it a LITTLE but still dropped 5 6 psi up top without fail every boost. Your going to have to go for a larger rear housing to fix this

No idea... it was just a t04 60 front. dont have any specs its long gone. did not make enough power for me. The guy said who built it that it will get me 300rwhp and he right on the money. it made about 330 ish

Mafia - I had a VG30 rear housing into a rx7 core and rear wheel with a .60 at t4 front and the max power i was able to get was about 240rwkw. The rear housing would get extreamly hot and it was just detonating on that power. We tuned it down to about 225 or so rwkw and it settled down a fair bit - this was on a rb30det. Boost would come on at 1800rpm to 2100rpm and would fall off up top big time. The VG30 rear housing is a good upgrade for the stock turbo but its not going to bag you alot of KW. (apparently they are .71 but when you start grinding them out to put a bigger wheel in them the AR ratio gets smaller and it becomes restrictive) i had to keep the boost at 9 or 10 psi to stop detonation and make the power - used lots of timing. I have sold my turbo to a guy who has a relitivly stock car and got a top mount manifold and a GT3540 with ext gate. Car is not finished yet but it may be done by the end of the week. Since the 230rwkw with vg30 housing i have got forward facing plenum mod top mount (ebay special with 10 hours spent on it to get it acceptable) gt3540 .82 rear housing 70 front genuine tial wastegate Nismo 740cc injectors Q45 AFM 300x600x100 fmic Il let you know how i go with it once its going - but im expecting at least 300rwkw or more.

damn i miss my FJ the way you could drive those off boost was unbelieveable. Only now since ive built my rb30det can i say it compares with it. Nothing else ive driven comes close to the FJ20 or RB30det.

quite a few mods man.. couldnt list them.. too many... but still had stock plenum (with xf throttle body mod) and gtr cooler and stock ex manifold

Yep. Definatly gap your plugs to .7 to fix this issue or .8 but no bigger

Hey mafia... I had a similar turbo combo to you.. I had a rx7 rear wheel in a vg30 rear housing and the max i could get was 220 - 240 rwkw (depending on which dyno) The guys said that the rear housing was way too small and that they were only good for around 230 rkw.... So you may have to go for a bigger rear housing ??? I since sold my turbo and got a gt3540 =) with .82 rear

Why would you buy one when the standard plenum is good for 550hp ? appart from the different location yeah

Because the turbo is so far away from the head it does give the engine a lower running temp which will allow you to run more advance timing which means extra power yes So a high mount would allow for a more agressive tune... Thats what I was told =)

damn they look short and stubby. look like they could handle heaps of power how does a rb30 rod look compared to that?

if you took a set of pistons out and put in a set of forged pistons the exactly same spec there will be no power increase. but you will be able to tune more agressivly to make more power safer. its just an insurance thing.
