There are a heap of different translations of the bible and some are worded quite differently. Some attempt to translate it 'word-for-word' where others attempt to convey the meaning of the original Hebrew/Aramaic/Greek texts. The end result can be very different.
I can't find a translation that exactly matches what you said for Genesis 6:14 but the king james version is close:
KJV - Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch.
Contrast that to the New King James, New International Version and English Standard Versions:
NKJ - Make yourself an ark of gopherwood; make rooms in the ark, and cover it inside and outside with pitch.
NIV - So make yourself an ark of cypress wood; make rooms in it and coat it with pitch inside and out.
ESV - Make yourself an ark of gopher wood. Make rooms in the ark, and cover it inside and out with pitch.
Apparently the exact type of wood specified is not certain - no one knows the correct translation of the original Hebrew word.
