Don't quite follow 'hooked a wheel off'. Got one wheel off the track? Into gravel or something that grabbed the wheel?
-
Thanks SK, that all makes sense. So basically squat is good for road/track, providing the rear suspension angles stay OK the more the better. But if it starts to push on corner exit then back off on the squat a bit.
-
With the 2WD's, for road/track what is the downside if some of the anti squat is dialled out? Other than it will squat

Lakeside is a string of press releases, the way things are going we'll be lucky to do a lap there next year. Its all about $ surprise surprise, being leasehold I guess makes it hard to attract capital. Lots of S'car teams based in Q adds absolutely nothing to the local motorsport infrastructure, blood suckers

Opinions On G4 Coilovers For R32's

We need a R tyre sticky, lots of useful info here.

You Mexicans are lucky, in Q we have boring QR and half a day away Morgan Park, and thats it. I would commit serious crime to get a run at Phillip Island or Eastern Creek without taking the week off to do it. It constantly shits me that every proposed track in Q disappears eventually, Q the motorsport arsehole state. Sorry for the rant, not

Ok I'll ask, what oil?

If soft springs are the go then someone should tell Porsche, those Career Cup Porkers bounce around all over the place It does seem that a lot of dampers work better with soft springs though, specially the cheaper off the shelf ones like Koni Yellows. So perhaps its not so much the soft springs which work, rather its the dampers which don't work so well at higher spring rates. The braking area into turn one at QR is a good test for suspension compliance, the old Zed which had 300 pound springs used to brake through the ripples there without a problem at all, thats a 1150kg car with strut suspension all round, Koni yellows on the back, Koni double adjustables on the front. So I think anyone who can brake heavily through there without the car bouncing around, like a lot do, has a decent basic setup.

Understand your points Gary, you explain them well, but isn't the weight transfer effect of ARB's the equivalent of increasing the spring rate on the outside wheels in a corner, so losing grip there anyway? I mean with a big front ARB and soft springs the outside front tyre will get a hell of a work out in a corner won't it, with the weight transfer effect plus wedge to the inside rear as well? Anyway what I'm going to try is to run springs that are liveable with on the road and then use ARB's to tune the suspension so it handles on the track. The dampers are custom three way jobs valved for R tyres and the spring rate range that will be tried eg 3-400lb wheel rate at the front, less at the back. What Roy says above is relevant as well eg a front ARB does nothing to control dive under brakes.

My problem with using big anti roll bars is the amount of weight they transfer to the outside wheels in a corner. With a RWD car that may not be a crucial problem in the front but not so good for the rears, which afterall are also trying to lay down power as well as go round a corner. So in theory I'd prefer heavier springs but not as high as Jap spec, together with a fair to large sized ARB in the front and a small or nonexistant one in the rear. As I said, theory, as a general approach to setting up a dual purpose road/track car, assuming whatever it takes would be spent on dampers.

For circuit use, sprints and so on. 450-500whp OK? And what oil would suit best, Redline shockproof?

On the time attack/sprint rules, I'm involved in organising the sprints at Morgan Park for the '09 Nissan Datsun Nationals. So I've given rules a bit of thought and talked with others about them, with the following conclusions. Most importantly they have to be simple and unambiguous. That is the first priority. Then it has to be realised some people will spend whatever it takes to win no matter how detailed and complete the rules are. There is nothing wrong with that at all, it just has to be realised that rules will not stop people spending lots of money. Basically I'm thinking of dividing classes according to tyres, 4WD, full roll cage, rear wing and number of non standard body panels, although perhaps that last one makes things too complicated. If there were three classes, say Road, Club and Race, a 4WD car with a wing could go in the Race class, irrespective of what tyres etc it did or did not have. Thats an example of how the Class structure could be worked out, not a suggestion as to how GTR's should be classified Anyway, for what it is worth there it is. EDIT: Obviously engine capacity with a turbo corrector would be relevant too. -
Which Way Are Your Grooves In Your Rotors

This is the left front, Stoptech obviously. And this is a RDA right rear. Looks like different manufacturers have different ideas. -

Semi slicks would be good, any brand because they can be used for most events. Slicks are for the try-too-hards, get an open wheeler. Cars don't have to be checked, leave it to other competitors to dob the cheaters in. -
Here is the proper timeattack link http://www.timeattack.com.au/ That should get me a free entry with the old Z car, it would get hammered by all that late model stuff anyway
-
As John said, S13's are good, maybe an RX7 although rotors seem a bit fragile engine wise, some of the sporty front drivers go well, maybe start looking at Hondas, MX5's are worth a go.

Reading those requirements, roll cages must be CAMS approved??? You do realise that in some places a road registered car is not legal with a full cage, CAMS approved or not? And that CAMS don't approve half cages. Which means you are excluding cars with half cages. Why?????????? -
Geez and I thought some of you blokes were experts. Its not hard to work out what R tyres are dry orientated and what perform best in the wet. Looking at a Toyo brochure right now and they tell you that

Bloody well done, that is an exceptional result, pity I have to blow you blokes away next time at QR. Joking........of course -
More $ than driving talent? Not uncommon.

Yeh, boot some Jap arse -
National circuit is hard on brakes. I'd be thinking very high temps, getting them down and dumping the present pads.
