  1. Be extremely surprised if 350mm rotor brakes will fit inside 17" wheels.
  2. Fairly sure that Wilwood do a two piece rotor kit which looks quite decent. I have the US Stoptech kit on mine, it takes a common Porsche pad and is massive. Pic
  3. Interesting topic, does the solenoid operate a variable volume valve to regulate the amount of oil flow? In other words, what mechanical device regulates the amount of power steering? And in what way does the solenoid operate that mechanical device?
  4. LOL at anyone wanting to run an open wheeler in a supersprint, I mean why would you? Competing with other open wheelers too hard or is this a gay NSW thing.
  5. On the 95db noise limit at Lakeside, thats a condition of its use by the Government fun police so its non negotiable. In practice only noticeably noisy cars are pinged, mainly rotors and those who have modified exhaust systems with little muffling. Personally I'd be happy to sacrifice a few Kw to run Lakeside so it is a personal choice. And Jason, QR was used for the Nationals before with a minimum of drama, a decent lap by lap timing system and a modest fee. Only one club member was actively involved in running the sprints, everyone else was free to enjoy the day. Its my understanding that MP was the circuit of choice for NDN09 without any real consideration of using QR so..................
  6. Its a choice to be made by the individual but anyone who doesn't want to run Lakeside because of the noise limit has rocks in their head. In my humble opinion of course
  7. The club that owns Morgan Park has very definate ideas on what is not acceptable driving, something that the National's organisers had to be very careful to adhere to. It is also a CAMS circuit which rarely sees powerful street cars so the people that go there and officiate are just not used to their 'performance'. On the other hand the AASA circuits Lakeside and particularly QR are used to seeing powerful street cars and are not nearly so fussy about a bit of car attitude on the track. To put it another way, MP is conservative old school. Hopefully the next Q Nationals sprint will be held at Lakeside which in my opinion is a far better circuit than MP anyway.
  8. While I think of it, results of using A1RM's at Lakeside sprints after driving out there with them new and back with them used. Pulled one set front and rear out for a look. First, no noise, anytime. Second, fine to use in traffic, just like the Lucas and Greenstuff pads I've used before. On the circuit, basically no problems. They don't grab as hard initially as some people have found but they are OK in that regard, push harder and they brake harder, just feel OK is about all I can say really, OK in a good way. Pad wear is acceptable, rotors went grey so they were working front and back, some signs on the fronts of grooves and lines but this was more visual than anything. Barely able to feel anything, certainly not measurable. Once again, acceptable if this aspect does not change with further use. So far will definately use again, good bang for buck for a dual purpose pad. At the moment they are looking like a viable alternative to DS2500's and the like but at a non theiving price.
  9. Had my first run today on the A1RM's, suburban stuff with moderate traffic so they did not get a workout at all, would have hardly got warm. Worked perfectly, no noise at all but then mine has all the stock anti squeal shims etc fitted. Will give them a proper workout next Lakeside track run but so far looking good.
  10. My understnding is that, with a single element wing, anything more than ~12 degrees will start to produce flow separation, which is not a good thing. Multi element wing's performance are a different thing altogether and are certainly beyond most amateur's expertise.
  11. If you have the ones with a single adjuster at the top thats for rebound only, bump can't be adjusted except by revalving. So, yeh, start soft and work your way up.
  12. There were a couple of R35's at QR for the last WAS. Pic of one, well a bit of it anyway.
  13. Dunno about that, the R35 is basically quite a different car in concept to a Porsche. It just so happens that the GT-R gets compared with a Porsche because their performance is similar, really the P car should comparitively be a lot better than it actually is. Particularly when pricing is considered. And I have doubts about how well the R35 will sell in AU, simply because at its price level many/most buyers are looking primarily for prestige not actual performance. Hope I'm wrong but............
  14. I wasn't thinking of the 370Z as being cheaper/more convenient, my preferance is for RWD and developing a car with potential for better performance. Anyone can walk into a showroom and buy lap times. But if that was the objective a GT-R could kick lots of P car arse, as they have done for years, eg http://www.natsoft.com.au/cgi-bin/results..../2008.MOUN.S4.Y Going by this thread there are lots of wannabe PP's around though, the myth lives on
  15. Hope so, from all reports it is a brilliant car. But I've wondered for a long time what market segment it is aimed at, perhaps its more a car for the US market. I'd prefer a car like the new 370ZX but turbocharged, for doing sprints/time attack stuff, which is what I do now in an old Z car. Porsches are way overpriced and I think often its more about 'hey look at me I can afford this car' than anything else, its just a pity that some Jap manufacturer has not built a similar type of car but with the engine in the right place. They already have suitable engines.....
  16. Just wondering what you guys who prefer a Porsche would actually do with it. From what I've seen in open competition P cars don't do that well unless they are driven by the top few gun drivers. One thing seems clear, bang for buck they are rubbish.
  17. My choice would be a new 370Z, then spend whats been saved on hookers and coke Or else a turbo kit and a few other goodies. Far more satisfying and interesting than paying lots more for something that is grossly overpriced like the Porsche or over teched like the R35. Having said that the GT-R would be better to drive near the limits than the P car, according to most reports.
  18. Someone is going to be offered a factory drive if they keep knocking off Porsches like that, if they can't beat you they will buy you
  19. It is possible to comment on equipment failures without endangering anyone but it has to be done the right way. Like eg 'my clutch exploded', 'it was upplied by XYZ', 'they don't consider it is replaceable under warranty'. Problem is people get emotional (hard not to if someone's feet could have gone with a clutch) and want to go further than merely commenting as above. This is just my opinion as an outside commentator of course but the use of neutral words helps to prrevent comment getting out of hand. Now, is my full monty clutch dangerous
  20. The point that interested me was the contention that an anti burst cover should have been used, no mention of a pressure plate. So I was wondering what an anti burst cover was, a quick google did not turn up anything. By the pics it looked like the pressure plate had exploded which is a scarey thing, my car has a single plate JB 'full monty' clutch so I'm wondering what sort of pressure plate was used in it. Not a cast one I hope. Then again what clutch manufacturers give details of the materials used in there pressure plates? Nodular iron is the only one I've heard of.
  21. It was interesting and potentially educational, so one person gets an attitude and its locked
  22. 260DET

    Queensland.

Agree that the problem is drivers, there are too many of them for our crappy roads Seriously, the road system in SEQ is a bloody disgrace and revenue raising speed cameras have not for a long time been sited at true black spots, just where they can catch the most $.
  23. So what is an 'antiburst cover'? Pic would help.
  24. Be interesting to hear of your experience with the R1R's in due course. I suspect they would be significantly slower when doing laps than R888's or any other true semi slick although they may be a good dual purpose tyre.
  25. So what really happened with the Haltech R35, seems like they stuffed up. Fairy enough, just own up, end of story.
