  1. The usual bonnet pins are illegal on a road registered car because they can be a pedestrian hazard so I would question any sup regs that in effect require a road registered car to be illegal. I know of a bloke who was defected because his car had a tow hook sticking out the front a bit.
  2. If 'coachwork' is to be interpreted as 'original coachwork' then that should be made clear because obviously there can be two different opinions if that is not done. Not trying to be a bitch but properly drafted regulations or whatever should be as unambigious as possible to save aggro and misunderstandings down the track. I used to draft stuff in another life, it is an art and not something most people can do well without some training at least.
  3. If they are permanently fixed then they are part of the 'coachwork', love that antiquated word My ruling for what it is worth. PS: get a lawyer to go over regs wording before release, for crying out......
  4. MX5 driver who did the video commented on what was said at the driver's briefing, he was there. He has since put up a highlights video of the entire event showing lots of passing and the speed differentials involved, if he is an idiot then there should be more idiots like him instead of the real idiots who wander all over the place and have no idea of what is going on.
  5. Careful, this is Skyrine territory where 30 year old inline sixes rule with the powaz
  6. Strange, pics not loading
  7. What's the problem? When you look at the Lotus's incar it's all fairly straight forward. But it's a good lesson about how bloody important it is to hold your line as the driver's briefing emphasised that day. It's wankers who have no idea what they are doing on a race track who are the problem, not these blokes.
  8. A long time ago I came to the conclusion that some people who drive cars on a race track are simply hopeless drivers, they apparently don't understand the dynamics involved and don't appreciate what driving in company at high speeds is all about. At a rough semi-educated guess the historic racing lot contain some of the worst but most of the sprint blokes are not bad except for a minority, mostly big egos in eurocars. In Q anyway there are heaps of genine sprinters without the wannabe racer type blowins, I would love to have shares in Lakeside
  9. Not so long ago sprints and supersprints were populated by the ordinary club blokes out for a run in their road registered cars for a bit of sharp edged competitive fun. Blokes who wanted to do real racing did just that, they picked a class and went from there, never the two to meet. Now we all know that nothing stays the same but thems are the origins. Now we have fast road registered type cars lapping faster than many in race classes, which really have not kept up eg IPRA. But such cars are still capable and basically legal of being driven on the road with all the handicaps that entails. And it's still as great fun as it used to be Why someone with what is basically a race car well outside would seriously want to do sprints or supersprints escapes me, perhaps they can't cut it with their real opposition or are after a cheap victory they can big note themselves about to their mates.
  10. It's a matter of opinion then.
  11. It's in the spirit of what running a road registered car is about and cetainly slicks are not legal for road use whereas a lot of semis are. CAMS seem to recognise this with their list of approved semi slick tyres, pity it's not applied to CAMS sprints.
  12. Slicks are for race cars, not road registered cars. That should be obvious.
  13. Yep, Vettel is the best F1 driver around, by a fair margin too. So the Red Bull suits him, Mark is back in the second tier with Alonso, Button, Lulu, et al. Which makes it hard to evaluate cars but let's say the Red Bull is not the dominant car for 2011 but Vettel is the dominant driver?
  14. At least with AASA sprints in Q road registered cars are seperated from race only cars, although as usual there will always be someone trying to make up for their lack of driving skill by cheating. So I suggest that is where Harry is coming from, some sort of class where the car differences are not too ridiculous. How anyone can think, let alone say, that an ex V8 Supercar fits comfortably into a sprints scenario is beyond my comprehension. Must be a CAMS thing.
  15. Ah but it not only the driver who is relevant to tyre care, the car is too. Observing MW fighting the Red Bull in traffic while Vettel has cleared off into the clean air out front has become a common scenario, I'm surprised that it has not been generally realised that the Red Bull is a dog in dirty air which contributes significantly to tyre degradation.
  16. Fixed to save further fanboism
  17. It seems pretty clear that the RB does suit Vettel simply because he can pull away in the first few laps whereas Mark is a slow starter and then gets nowhere in traffic due to the RB's poor straight line speed and dirty air grip. The Mac for one is faster, the main reason they don't win more often is because they don't have Vettel who is clearly the best driver around.
  18. Pffft, my car is irreplacable, that Supra used to go great and with some development would have done top times.
  19. Another pic of my cool Z, Hungry corner, Lakeside. Pretty good line there.
  20. So why did you sell it, tard
  21. Phillip Island, Bathurst??? Maybe,I don't really know. Shitty little circuits like Wakefield? No?
  22. Seems like this is not going ahead, well I can't find any more info on it anyway.
  23. Yeh, trying not to sound smart arse but unless you have driven on circuits at speed and know what is going on it can be hard to understand the dynamics at play. If you are pushing it and have taken a line for a corner then it can be fatal to even try to change that line.
  24. I guess any Q CAMS affiliated club could host that championship and there are plenty of those in Q. The thing would be to find one willing and able to do it. Then again there is nothing stopping AASA from running their own championship although running any socalled Australian championship in just one state sounds like bullshit to me anyway. It's just like running a Q championship using just one circuit.
  25. The last CAMS club sprint I went to at QR and was a complete stuff up organisation wise, particularly concerning scrutineering which delayed the start for hours. Lots of clubs and organisations run events at QR and Lakeside, they just happen not to be CAMS events.
