I think the excess airflow protection is commonly refered to as boost cut as turning up the boost generally results in more airflow. But yes I whole heartedly agree with you.

yeah it sounds like an exhaust gasket to me (i have done one before) I would be careful handing over any dosh for a blown turbo before getting an indpendent second opinion.
