  1. bugger about the classes. I was hoping they would use the southerner's Type 1-5 system for conformity with the last 2 years at PI and EC. The CAMS categories we use up here makes it hard for my 180SX, and probably alot of other imports, depending on how strict they are on the categories' requirements and eligibility criteria.

  3. bugger will you have it together for the QLD Champs at Morgan Park? I'm looking forward to both these events. Diff's coming out tomorrow - tired of the open wheeling viscous diff so I'm planning to weld it up. Would love to get hold of a wing too, but I think I've left it a bit late.
  4. I'll be doing the QLD Supersprint Champs there, but will wait and see regs before deciding on the Nationals. Would like to though. Regs only came out this week for the QLD Champs, so the AUS Champ Supp Regs may be a few weeks yet.

  6. well if it has to be one car for both, which is more important - weekends or track use? Having a nice car for weekends, GTR wins hands down (well, for me anyway!). They are certainly a bit more special than any S chassis. And no SR can compete with the sounds of an RB26 at 8 or 9000rpm every now and then. Or track use where a mild street trim GTR and for example a 200rwkw S14 are going to be similar in lap speed but the S14 will do it with cheaper purchase price, cheaper brakes, be a little easier on rubber and probably be less prone to engine failure, and much cheaper if the worst does happen. More prone to gearbox failure though. It comes down to this - if you really want a GTR, an S14 isn't going to hold your interest more than a year or two... if my experience since selling my GTR is anything to go by!
  7. maybe so, but do you have the coin to drop on a GTR to compete with those at pointy end? If not, the solution is easy. Drop an SR + disco potato in the S13 for track days and enjoy hounding as many GTRs and Porsches as possible, and buy a nice GTR for weekend enjoyment.
  8. I'd be replacing wheel bearings after whacking the hell out of it with a 6lb hammer. wouldn't hurt to check the hub for runout as well, seeing as how you bent the disc!
  9. who did this? were the FZ201 time done with the same car/driver as the RS-R's? and was it 3 seconds or 5 seconds??? 2 seconds is a very significant variation. and what times were they running?
  10. I'll say it again, 15mm of negative wedge (which is what you've got with the left rear being 15mmm lower) is HUGE and is going to cause the car to be very loose in left hand turns (T1 at EC). By all means keep looking for driveline problems, but don't overlook the most basic setup problem your car has.
  11. I prefer a smaller wheel. 350mm is legal but feels too big to me - except in the Patrol lol. I've had a 330mm Sparco (think its A Sparco Ring) thats been on my last 4 cars now. Can still see the gauges. Its a personal preference. I don't like big dished wheels in modern cars. You certainly don't need one in a 32GTR with the telescopic column. I had a leather version of that JJR wheel - they're a generic cheapie. Mine was GKTech branded. The rim was a bit thin to be comfortable, as was the in-your-face driving position - for me anyway. And reaching forward about 4" to get to the indicator stalk gets old quick.

I've used both: -R888 is a genuine semi with 100 treadwear, and strong construction designed primarily for motorsport use. -KU36 is an ultra high performance street tyre. 180 treadwear, mush softer sidewall construction, and high void area tread pattern. designed primarily for street use with occasional track days. Needs high pressure for track use, and being so much harder compound has far less traction. The R888 is not the best semi available, but will be far better than the KU36 for the short, standing start events that Dutton style rallies are made of.

  15. perhaps you should just come out and say what you're trying to say. rather than backpedalling away from that and making vague insinuations about something said somewhere on the previous page. Then people might actually understand what you're on about? just an idea. its little suprise to me that the R35s will be faster on Porsche Cup slicks - they have no other real tyre option!!! It certainly doesn't make slicks the best/fastest choice for every car at sprints. btw, is that your radical runing 57s???
  16. you're missing something. plenty of circuit racing categories mandate semi slick tyres as a control tyre. And there is alot of other forms of club level motorsport than just time attack such as sprints, supersprints, hillclimbs etc. Time Attack is really just a johnny-come-lately marketing spin on sprints anyway, but with a whole lot less rules. I was doing the hillclimb series in Marque Sports which is a slick tyre category. Combine that with the Kumho slicks being on special and hundreds of dollars cheaper than semis, and that was my decision made.
  17. another thing worth mentioning is that slicks apparrently are less tolerant of heat cycling than semis. I haven't had mine long enough to realy form an opinion on that, but I can say the first time I used the slicks running the same 6/4kg springs I used with the semis I could not break traction in 3rd gear corners at Lakeside where I'm usually sideways... Not even close - no matter how aggressive you were - it would just grip and understeer.. It was like driving an EVO! Second time I used them I changed spring rates to 7/6kg and had traction issues in 4th on straights, let alone 3rd gear corners! Was that solely due to the 50% higher rear spring rate, or was it also due to less tyre grip compared to the previous meeting? I don't know, but I suspect it's at least a little from column B...
  18. I don't believe slicks really are well suited to 3-5 lap supersprints. But if you do get some, get soft compounds. I bought some medium compound Kumho slicks because they were on special, and it takes the best part of 2 laps just to get them working properly. Any semi I've had has been pretty well good to go after the warm up lap. I think a good semi (DZ03 or A050) would be faster than my medium compound slicks if its a single lap time you want.

  20. what, now that he actually has a sniff at a WDC he's going to voluntarily call it quits while he's in the best form of his life??? I don't thnk so! That's what the whole 28 previous years has been about!
  21. because its the fastest car he could realistically get a seat in next year. Neither of the McLaren seats are available. Ferrari maybe, but the car is slower. Merc seat also might be available, but its slower again. Renault would be the most likely option and its not a real contender either. I very much doubt any driver would rather quit than have a seat in one of the fastest cars on the grid!
  22. second time this season too. and no meaningful (ie grid) penalty for running out of fuel against the regulations in final qualy, just a $10K slap on the wrist. they reckon a lap of fuel weight there was worth 1.5tenths lap time. McLaren/Hamo are having a very good run with the stewards this year... story goes it was an oil analysis that picked up the issue.
  23. Volk GT7 on the Aristo, Rays Cerumo Sports on the 180SX for road use and Desmond Regamasters for track work. I guess you could call the Dynamic steelies on my Patrol a 'copy', but there is no question they are fit-for-purpose. I did buy a set of cheap knock offs once - drift teks and one broke with a very minor hit to a rock on the edge of the road. Since then I refuse to buy cheapies. we have. you can't make a gravity cast wheel almost as light as a similar forged wheel and not expect fatigue failure. as for learning from experience, this is hardly the first set of busted ROTAs anyone has seen.

  25. perhaps ROTA distributor can provide the anonymous UK magazine's article? Would be an interesting read. Their testing methodology and the actual conclusion and criteria would be worth seeing. throwing price in there could easily skew results. ie something light, cheap but relatively weak could perform as well in strength:weight:cost as a good quality forged wheel thats light, expensive and strong.
