  1. mmm, a veteran F1 driver or a journo... who would have more idea about what's going on inside a driver's head??? And Joe doesn't offer up any rationale as to why he feels Berger's comments are so ridiculous, just slags him off... Berger's rationale is at least plausible. As I watched it, I've got to say I thought it was strange that he wasn't on the brakes after the impact with the wall. It was the second thing I said after it happened... I think it was obvious he was going to slap into the wall sideways, and would have been from the driver's seat. No need to worry about getting his feet off the pedals. Is there any room to bring your legs back away from the pedals in an F1 car even if you wanted to??? If suspension arms pierce the cockpit, moving your feet a few inches ain't going to help you any. Low speed crashes like that with glancing blows along a wall are never going to wreak that sort of carnage anyway. Marks's descriptions of the crash as "nothing too heavy" and "slow motion" don't make it sound like he was terribly perturbed about it at the time. His hands went straight back onto the wheel afterwards, holding it with full lock on... the wheel is obviously upside down, and drivers can see there front tyres - he knew where they were pointing, and where he was going to end up... Most of the time in accidents like this, the driver stays on the brakes.
  2. and the other side of that coin for RBR is... if their engine hadn't let go on Vettel, the points situation would have been: Vettel 231 Alonso 224 Webber 220 Hamilton 210 they may feel they owe him something for letting him down with that engine failure.
  3. if Webber wanted RBR to back him over Vettel, he probably shouldn't have thrown it into the fence. I would be reluctant to put all my eggs in that basket now too. If he hadn't, he would have been gifted the win when Vettel's engine let go, and the points situation would be: Webber 245 Alonso 224 Hamilton 207 Vettel 206 ...and the decision on whether or not to back one particular driver would have been done and dusted. Instead they have to decide if its worth the risk of backing the driver with the most points but who had a brain explosion over the one who in recent races has been outperforming his team mate in every aspect (including composure) in recent races.
  4. best tyres for the conditions wins... you got some great action from the rear facing camera!
  5. count me in Noddy
  6. they really need to do something about it. there's no point going there if the times are so unreliable. and we're paying top dollar for the Lakeside events... They should install the same radio frequency timing system they have for sprints at QR. Or hire out Dorians like other tracks do. Sam posted some video on another forum - http://www.youtube.com/user/scs15
  7. I've been using them without any worries. Same reason - wheel availability. I'd need 17x8 +10 fronts if I didn't use spacers.
  8. I think Sam's 58.1 might be right, he has gone 57.7 at QR Sprint. He's very quick!
  9. November mate. By Dec, you'll be eating my dust! haha what changes? have you got a newer/faster EVO to borrow?
  10. thanks for the offer mate, but tyres are one of the changes I've got lined up to try out that day I've seen enough to know those FZ201's work!!!
  11. I'm goign to Lakeside on the 7th to try out a few changes! Without the Car Clubs, we wouldn't have Morgan Park, the Autocross track you're going to, Mt Cotton Hillclimb, Carnell Raceway... Its the local car clubs that built them. We also wouldn't have anyone running autocrosses, motorkhanas, hillclimbs, and even state level race meetings! WDSCC (Warwick District Sporting Car Club) built this racetrack themselves. Bill the man to thank for the place even existing. It started off as a short circuit dirt track, and has continually expanded and grown thanks to the hard work of Bill and locals out there.
  12. Ben, if you want you can have my old R888 semis for that EMO to keep you out of Sport Sedans.
  13. Come on Cal, As good as Lakeside is, I want a bit more variety. I'm thinking of doing the Sprint Series at Morgan Park next year - its cheap and great fun. @day events using different track layouts for each round. Standing start Supersprints against other cars - like a mini head-to-head race. I might do a dirt sprint at Ipswich and a motorkhana here and there as well. Plus there's sprints at Stanthorpe which is a fun little track. And heaps of other stuff. Superlap is a CAMS event too btw :P The CAMS club membership and licence are both just annual things, but it is a PITA to have to get a passport photo the first time you get the licence I guess. SAU QLD are CAMS affiliated - join SAU here:http://www.sauqld.com/ipb/index.php?showtopic=1648. They're also not exactly expensive. They run some other events as well - skidpans, drags and stuff. Then the easiest way to get the CAMS licence is download the form and pay by credit card L2S licence application Keep the tear-off 30day licence at the end of the form and get the SAU guys to sign it. You can use this if your proper licence doesn't arrive in time. Or pay in person at CAMS State Office at Sports House Milton and they will complete that for you on the spot. Your entry for the event still needs to be sent via smoke signal to the organising club at Warwick - most clubs have credit card facilities for entry, but WDSCC don't. So its either cheque or money order. You could get a bank cheque from your bank or money order from the post office. And QLD registered vehicles also need a CTP Insurane extension to cover them for the event. Its just a letter from your CTP insurer saying they're aware the vehicle is being used in competition, and lists the dates and event name. Depending on the Insurer they can be free or $10ea. Suncorp and NRMA i know are free. Some Insurers you can just call and they will mail/fax it out to you, others you have to go to a branch and get it in person. OK you're right - it IS alot of paperwork and a PITA! lol My entry is in the mail now though
  14. hmmm, I called earlier and spoke to Bill. I asked him what class a 180SX should be in, as by-the-book its not eligible for either IPRA or 2B/2F, he said "it would probably end up in sports cars". After that we got sidetracked on that topic and I forgot to ask about how strictly IPRA regs would be enforced... doh... I'm sending an entry in anyway, so I'll see you guys there Cal, its not that hard to get a money order or a CAMS licence. Do it! It will be fun to have a run on a different track.
  15. did anyone end up calling about the classes? If not, I might give TC a call tonight and sus out how strict they're going to be on complying with CAMS category regs. Things like: - Improved Production - turbo restrictors, max rim width, non steel panels (eg CF/FRP bonnets), gaurd mods, wing dimensions/height - what category a 180SX would be in - technically not eligible for IPRA or 2B/2F sports cars... - if there will be any dramas with non-complying Jap bolt-in cages for road registered cars if anyone else has anything to add to the list of questions, speak up
  16. the GTR wing would probably only be considered factory standard if it was on a GTR. Check with your eligibility officer for the category.
  17. you can get noise checked at QR if you ask them. Then you will know if you're right for Lakeside or not. But a mildly tuned R33 GTST should have no problems with noise at Lakeside if it has a sensible exhaust system. noisey little NA cars screaming their tits off have more trouble with noise than turbo cars.
  18. 11" slicks (280/680R17) doesn't count as undertyred in my book! They've been bleating about it long enough to convince people its small though... they are faster than they should be on paper though. I guess that's what ~20 years of chassis and shock development money buys you... oh, and the best drivers in the country doesn't hurt either
  19. The new Federal semi FZ-201 in medium compound is about 1.5 sec faster than RS-R's
  20. he's 4 stud, so we can't swap rubber. I have been offered me a try before you buy deal though His is also stripped out, some basic aero - wing and undertray/splitter. It went a sec faster from them alone. Lower diff ratio (like I had in the old car) and a mech diff. I have none of those things.
  21. yep, and Allan offered me a deal on them last time out. Might have to start saving my pennies.
  22. Mine supposedly has 270bhp at the wheels. Jacky's S15 290bhp at the wheels. My horses sound lazy compared to his. lol But his times make my head hurt. I've been to EC so I know how fast 1:45 is! And that's on Federal RSRs! unbelieveable
  23. that's what I said, insanely fast for the power levels. And I'm not Jacky Yick! Its about 220rwkw from what he said if memory serves... But it certainly sounds pretty eager: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zMcPtoT5804&feature=email Maybe my 200rwkw is from a happy dyno. It certainly doesn't pull anything like that car! But I'm fairly certain its mainly the tyres. When I first put the R888s on it, they didn't feel like they made any more lateral grip than the KU36s. And they're only 225 and 235s...
  24. lol I think you've been a bit mislead about those power levels mate. Jacky Yick's S15 was running almost 300bhp at the rears on e85. Still crazy fast for the power and tyres. But he is a very good steerer, U2l IPRA champion down there. And Wayne Sutton's 180 certainly ain't only 250bhp at the wheels!!!
  25. haha your 33 does nice flameouts the emo even sounds boring...
