Best Tyres For Sprint And Time Trials
hrd-hr30 replied to fubar's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
knew it was too good to be true. just got quoted $275ea for that size. -
Fixed does not mean attached. Affixed means attached. Fixed means to remain stationary, immoveable, not subject to change/variation, etc. So "firmly fixed whilst the automobile is in motion" gives permission to adjust/move the wing only when the car is not in motion.

The 180SX gets its first run at Lakeside this Sunday Might see you there Ben

Best Tyres For Sprint And Time Trials
hrd-hr30 replied to fubar's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
I got my best times on the KU36 starting at 36psi cold. Didn't make note of the hot pressures. But the heavyweight Supra probably put a couple of extra pound in them through heat than your lighter R32. -
Best Tyres For Sprint And Time Trials

that's extremely cheap compared to their normal prices. Its damn near the normal 595SS price. I'd go out and buy a set tomorrow at that price! was it from option1? zebra, any Kumho motorsport distributor can hook you up. http://fsport.com.au/special_offers.html -
is there a date for their next one? The 18th clashes with a hillclimb series round for me, but I'd love to get back down to EC with the new car.

and about 1.5 times the price. You can get R888s for that, not that they're much better. I just bought a set of 215 & 240 x17" medium compound Kumho slicks for the price of RSRs. Admittedly the Kumhos were on special, but so are the Feds... -
well, if he had taken pole, and not run off the road, and not crashed, and... well if he had of performed like Vettel all weekend, I suppose! at least Mark's RBR hasn't broken yet!
-
not worth it. will probably only be slower around a track with the poor old NA RB30 (even with a twin cam head) dragging around all that extra weight. Far better ways to spend that money if your goal is to make it faster on the track
-
$10K per year!!! I'm well and truly in the "don't have much to spend on track stuff" category!

My twin turbo supra with the same small 2/1 brake setup never needed slotted rotors, endless pads or anything like that. QR is reknowned for being hard on brakes, and both times I went there witht he Supra was in QLD summer heat - well over 30deg. If your NA Supra can't manage a track day on the same brakes there is something very very wrong. Just flush your brake fluid, maybe buy a set of Lucas front pads and get out there.
-
I thought the NA Supra had the same 2/1spot brakes as the early TTs? If so, you don't need an expensive brake upgrade for track days. Half decent pads and you're away. I used cheapo Lucas/TRW pads and normal DOT4 fluid in my TT and they were very good. At all sorts of tracks, QR, Lakeside, Eastern Creek, Wakefield, Oran Park. Only ever got any fade after about 15 minutes around Oran Park GP. And stopping power was very good too. Better than the S14 4 spots in my 180SX by a fair margin. And way better than the brakes my R32 GTR was. In a less powerful NA Supra, they'd be more than up to the job. I'm going to give a different answer to the others (edit: looks like Roy beat me to it). I've done both the track only car a few times (Datto 1200s, Sil80) and dual purpose cars (R32 GTR, JZA80 Supra, and now 180SX). Its definitely cheaper with just one car and I haven't had any reliability problems with them. I drove the Supra Brisbane to Sydney a few times for track days down there. It was a sweet handling car with just a set of Tein Flex and the most aggressive alignment possible from the standard adjustments, and cheap kumho KU36 tyres. It was a fantastic car to drive! I did more track days in the Supra than any of my track cars and it never missed a beat! I kinda regret selling it actually. I doubt you'd get any reliability issues at all with a NA Supra. Just get out there and enjoy it. Also, if you were planning on towing the track car with an R31, forget it! I had an R31 about 6 years ago and towed my empty car trailer to go and collect a new mattress once - even my light (540kg) trailer was pulling the poor old thing around all over the place. I would not tow a car with it! You won't get a towbar rated high enough anyway.

FIA GT3 is basically the cars you see in the Aus GT championship. They had a good field at the F1 last weekend, so its no surprise to see them added to the 12hr. GT cars and endurance racing go hand in hand. As long as there are no bullshit repeats of the Monaro debacle, I think it will be great to see the sports cars back at the 12hr!

I don't understand the fascination with how much the R34 cost to build, as if spending money is somehow cheating. None of the Pro Class cars were built using parts from the local scrapheap! Serious race cars need some serious parts in them, like those Linton listed, and they don't come free. That's motorsport.

hehe, at least no-one can say Mark is the unluckiest man in F1 anymore

PanSpeed RX7 - go the RWDs!

not even nearly as dumb as the idiots going 3 wide under yellows to hit him! hadn't they already passed the parked Ascari on the previous lap???
-
he did his best time in dodgy conditions this afternoon. only guy faster in that session was Weber, and miles ahead of teammate Rosberg this arvo. Looks like he might be getting the cobwebs out of his system! practice today was more interesting than the previous race...
-
at least I can stop procrastinating about entering now... might have to cheer myself up by doing the race meeting on the same weekend at Lakeside instead.

Tyre Life Of Semi Slicks
hrd-hr30 replied to eightsixboy's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
it varies. the 245 & 275 x 18s I had on the Supra were very quiet, but the 215/45x17s on my Legnum were noisey as hell. The Leggie wore the fronts pretty hard on the inside edge too, so the noise was probably alignment related. they did 15,000km and probably 8-10 track days on the Supra and the fronts were still going strong. Rears were down to TWI. -
yeah, because "they" kept records for things like that. f**king street racers! deadset
-
for someone who's been there and done it all, you really have a strange idea about the average club level motorsport competitor and how costly it is.

What Tyre Size Is Best For 17x8inch Rim?
hrd-hr30 replied to loco_180's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
225 is pretty much optimum on an 8" rim used on the front IMO. Its what I chose for my track car. 235 is OK too, but probably slightly less steering response from that. You might find the RSR is wider than the SS in each size anyway, its often the case with more track oriented tyres. So the 225 is the safer option if your current 235s rub understeer should be able to be tuned out in suspension setup, unless its really bad.
