  1. First it was "bonnet vents: safety issue". I pointed out the dozen or so other cars that had already cruised through scrutineering with bonnet vents... Then it was "carbon bonnet: eligibility issue". Even though that scrutineer then admitted he didn't know what class I was in... Pretty obvious how fairly they were treating the car already. I showed them that Marque Sports allows composite materials for body panels. Next came "bonnet vents: eligibility issue" And while this is correct, the replacement bonnet must be the same external shape, I pointed out that the class winner from the first round (who is also the series winer from last year) had flutes/louvres cut into his bonnet which is equally illegal. But fair enough, I said "No problem, I'll go home and fit my standard bonnet, but that Triumph better not be running with his illegal bonnet when I get back!" lol Then it was "car is not on the 2B & 2F eligibility list" - pointed them to the Series Standing Regulations that specified the class as 'Marque Sports, including road registered sports cars'. Wrong again... By this stage I think they had determined not going to let me run out of sheer blody-mindedness! And with all 4 scrutes, the CoC and 3 CAMS Stewards, they finally came up with "that car is not recognised by CAMS or the FIA". At which point I pretty much told them they could stick their hillclimb somewhere uncomfortable, it simply isn't worth this much hassle for a handful of 46second runs around thier track! I pointed out it was far from the 1st 180SX to have competed there, but if that was true that its not eligible to compete in CAMS events because its an unrecognised car they shouldn't have accepted the entry or series registration in the first place and should therefore refund my entry & series registration fees. And they did. I love CAMS
  2. I was registered in the CAMS Hillclimb Series this year. Asked for my money back at the last round after the scrutes came up with 1,000,001 reasons why my car was ineligible. And I was only cheating the same rules that all the other cars in my class were! lol
  3. nah, IPRA doesn't allow fibreglass panels. full steel and glass in IPRA. You don't need to go into 3D Sport Sedans to do those kind of things anyway. Prod or Marque Sports is what you want. Marque Sports would allow all those mods, but they might get narky about the non standard (for the model) bonnet shape. GTV is on the list of approved 2B and 2F cars. None of that matters unless you are circuit racing though, or doing a hillclimb at Mt Cotton with their over-officious scrutineers...
  4. its the most insanely fast thing anyone ever built out of canoes and race tape in their backyard. sub 40 seconds at Mt Cotton Hillclimb! Bill Norman's 1000cc motorcycle engined GEK Sports
  5. didn't see the original vid in this thread before it got removed, but this is as good as it gets IMO Walter Rohrl Porsche in old 911 at Nurburgring Nordschleife rally stage: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gnKARl8HJjY the man is a god!
  6. 2A doesn't have to be production based. Its probably allows more freedoms than 3D Sport Sedans. You can build something like this from scratch in 2A Open:
  7. If you're thinking about NSW Supersprints and Hillclimbs, forget the CAMS manual - they don't really use it. They have a system involving Type 1 to 5 & SV. forget 1 & 2 they're for all but standard cars. 3 is like Improved Production, 4 is like Sport Sedans, 5 is for open wheeler and kit cars i think, And SV is Special Vehicles for things that don't fit anywhere else.
  8. some info about tread splices and continuing to run on them http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiretech/tec...;currentpage=64
  9. 1) follows the contours in the road 2) never driven on the Sumitomos, so i can't say 3) yeah, pretty sure they did
  10. cool - sports 1300s are pretty awesome.
  11. was that the 4th GP? I'm prepared to give him more time. Lots of fun watching him befuddle "the world's greatest overtaker" repeatedly despite the obvious difference in the cars' performance.
  12. that all depends what compound Kumhos you bought.
  13. so unless you've tracked an R35 you wouldn't know if AWD makes life any easier? have NISSAN gone backwards with their AWD technology since the R32 GTR? Coz that certainly made it a bit easier to drive. I have no problem in saying mine did half the work from apex out. Sure it still had to be driven but it made it alot easier, and still rocketed forward even if you did get a touch too sideways. Certainly easier to squeeze every last little bit out of it when things are helping with the all important corner exits. but I guess the difficulty of driving one is all relative to what you've driven before. If it was EVOs, then GTRs must seem like a real handful! GTRs have always been the driver's AWD though. Certainly always have taken more driving than EVOs and the like.
  14. so did your tyres. motorkhanas vs track days. after the first track day (Lakeside) on my 1520kg Supra the KU36 had barely worn at all. Could still read the writing on the tread surface! It must have done a dozen track days (heaps at Lakeside, 1 each at QR, EC, & OP) & 15,000km on the road. The front were still going strong, rears were just down to the TWI. my R888s (GG compound) which have only done 3 track days at Lakeside and 0 road km on an ~1100kg S13 are more than half worn! The lefts are just at the TWI now! And the internet would have you believe the R888 is one of the more durable semis around... and there is certainly no doubt about the compounds being much harder on the KU36. All you have to do is look at the UTQG ratings.
  15. go the RWDs! The RX7s are carrying my hopes! Will be intersting to see how the NSX goes too. but the 900-1000bhp falcon I can't imagine being very competitive. Would have been better off keeping the V8 donk and spend as much time as possible tuning the car on those tyres at Eastern Creek I reckon, rather then building and fitting a kick ass I6 turbo motor. And it would have been nice to have a NA V8 in Pro class.
  16. there's a saying, "the poor man pays twice". Its probably relevant to buying secondhand coilovers. But I don't think I'd buy the new D2 coilovers either. If you must get used shocks, then get the ones with the best local rebuilding support - Teins. If you can, save another month and buy new Tein SS.
  17. they're not and they don't KU36 outlast the much softer proper semis on the track as well as the road.
  18. well I must have misunderstood the "extracting the last 1/10 out of the car isn't going to be any easier" remark. sure a better driver will still be faster in an R35, but not by nearly as much as if it were a more traditional car without all the electrickery.
  19. hang on, if all these driving aids and electronic systems don't help the car go fast, why are they there? you can't have all this artificial help and still claim its just as hard to drive as a car without them.
  20. a few little pics from lakeside yesterday thanks to Rob Nightingale
  21. hell yeah, the black 180's were out in force yesterday! shame yours didn't make it. It looks good - the CA front bars are so much tougher (and more practical) than the SR front bar. I have a good stock 110,000km SR20DET blacktop in the shed if you're looking for an engine?
  22. this is the 180SX wit the sledgehammer rear gaurd flares done! Its now as near to finished as its ever been. If anyone has some Type X bumper extensions for the front gaurds that would be tops! Lakeside tomorrow
  23. nah, no fences in that description!
  24. Fulcrum Suspensions are the Aus distributor for Teins. Brisbane southside at Moorooka. They also revalve them to suit our conditions better.
  25. the one move per straight rule/driving standard has been in place for many years now. petrov not close enough? you couldn't get any closer without being alongside! he was as close if not closer than the last lap where he did pass hamilton.
